I feel like if this qualifies and can push left side of the scoreboard then SBS surely would accept. It actually makes me kinda sad to hear Australians preparing to "bow out"! I've always felt a bit weird about Australia being in Eurovision, as if someone who isn't really supposed to be in your group is playing along. Also, kind of afraid that having opened the door to Australia, this would give the EBU the opportunity to invite others as well, in their hunger to make Eurovision a world-wide brand. However, I really like Australia's approach and enthusiasm for Eurovision (both the public and the broadcaster) and the Aussie entries have usually been really good quality. So I will actually miss them if they go! Besides, I think that no other country outside of Europe will be as enthusiastic as Australia for a song contest on another continent and thus as eager to take part.

They did, and they were Outstandin the final. They are a fully professional band and extremely talented and competent musicians. If only we have bands like this more often in Eurovision.
The other thing about Voyager is that they have been touring in Europe a lot over their career so probably one of the few artists allegedly in the running that has a name over there outside of ESC, which MIGHT help them get more televotes. I'm very happy they were chosen this year, though, because I have a soft spot for artists that are fans of the contest and really want to go. Live your dream, guys! I really like the song, I wish it could be longer. haha. Has a great energy to it and I can just FEEL that this will be insane live. Or I hope it will.
It probably is that short because it's for the ESC. The breakdown and solo parts would clearly be longer on a normal record. Because progressive music tracks are usually more than 5 minutes long. :) Just check their other songs. 🫶🏼 ps: They're an amazing live band. Saw them at Euroblast in Cologne 2019. Bloody brilliant.

A really great choice for a televoting only semi final! Gotta qualify looking at the state of semi final 2. Hard for me to be objective about it but I am delighted to see that Voyager has been chosen. We know they can perform the sh1t out of this. We know SBS know how to put on a good show with the entries they send. This should qualify and if it doesn’t then it does jeopardise the future of Australia at Eurovision. It's like the Hawai'i song from Eurosong on Redbull + Steroids. I can root for this. It is slightly Eurovisionny lyrics-wise but the fresh-sounding music helps to overcome this.
It was really odd - we heard nothing then announced at 5:30am. Not sure if SBS will go for it being more expansive - I remember Kate Miller-Heidke having to crowd find her staging. Love this year's song though
I'm excited for this song! That said, I miss one thing, and that is a link to the original video in the description. I realize I can search for it, but I'm lazy!
lol i havent done that in years 😂 honestly with all the editing, copyright juggling, timestamps etc, ive got enough on my plate🍽. you can just copy and paste the title from my video name into the search bar above, i believe in you 😘
I can't see them not qualifying (unless people really are opposed to their participation). I think the EBU will do everything possible to keep Australia in the competition (with the loss of Russia and Belarus). Even if that means bringing back the juries in the semi finals to appease Australia.
4:53 you say that and then a generic bland pop singer wins every year. Compared to a lot of the other songs in the contest, Promise kicks the absolute ass out of all of them.
Some music nerd out there, can you tell me what genre they fit in? They have, at least for me, a very peculiar sound, rock/metal at the core but with some synth elements
Thanks both. In terms of the song, I really like it. Liked it more on a second listening and even more on the 3rd. It feels a bit "compact". A lot going on there. What I hate the most in Eurovision is the 3 minutes limit rule (which I get why is there). It would have been much better with 20-30 seconds more
If this is to be their swansong, then at least they are not going out with a whimper. Not my genre at all, so for me, it's tempting to suggest he sticks to politics. 😉
For me this has mid table eurovision final all over it I mean the songs good really good but but nothing wow nothing to get it in the top 10 this is going to place somewhere between 14 and 19 in the final but would be good for Australia to get back on track
@@ESCTom Yeah so long as we qualify. SBS are more likely to renew if we make the final, cos ratings explode (even at 4:30am IN THE MORNING) if we make the final. Even the repeat at 8pm pulls really strong numbers.
I fear for Australia this year Tom, especially, as you point out, that they suffer in the televote. I found the flow of the song a bit jarring on first listen. It also gave me Intelligent Music Project vibes 😂
This is by far my favorite this year. Could do without the guitar solo, though, which I feel is a little bit out there. Overall I feel like the verse is better than the chorus, but it's still really good.

I'm excited for this song! That said, I miss one thing, and that is a link to the original video in the description. I realize I can search for it, but I'm lazy!
lol i havent done that in years 😂
honestly with all the editing, copyright juggling, timestamps etc, ive got enough on my plate🍽.
you can just copy and paste the title from my video name into the search bar above, i believe in you 😘
It's called proggressive metal
Haha I thought the exact same thing today about the girl looking like Daði Freyr’s wife 😂
It's good, they are more edgy than anything in Eurovision
Love a beyonce style no build up release
I can't see them not qualifying (unless people really are opposed to their participation). I think the EBU will do everything possible to keep Australia in the competition (with the loss of Russia and Belarus). Even if that means bringing back the juries in the semi finals to appease Australia.
With no competition in second semi it could easily win second semi
Estonia and lithuania will never be higher in televote then Australia
I mean, if we’re talking borders & geography….. Errrm, ISRAEL!? You ROCK, Australia 👍👍👍
Its progressive synth rock
Pop rock in that case
Thanks both.
In terms of the song, I really like it. Liked it more on a second listening and even more on the 3rd.
It feels a bit "compact". A lot going on there. What I hate the most in Eurovision is the 3 minutes limit rule (which I get why is there). It would have been much better with 20-30 seconds more
Danny works in immigration law 🤘🏻
If this is to be their swansong, then at least they are not going out with a whimper. Not my genre at all, so for me, it's tempting to suggest he sticks to politics. 😉
I’ll be expecting a San Marino reaction to all the songs Tom
😂
ill react to the songs in the final. ive actually been watching some of the semis, its so snappy and quick. like the opposite of Sanremo 😅
We have indie rock from slovenia and latvia
And croatia is punk rock
For me this has mid table eurovision final all over it I mean the songs good really good but but nothing wow nothing to get it in the top 10 this is going to place somewhere between 14 and 19 in the final but would be good for Australia to get back on track
even that would be a success tho, cos it would be qualifying, and also qualifying with a non pop song
@@ESCTom Yeah so long as we qualify. SBS are more likely to renew if we make the final, cos ratings explode (even at 4:30am IN THE MORNING) if we make the final. Even the repeat at 8pm pulls really strong numbers.
"no hard rock yet, just indy Slovenia" You forgot about Latvia (and Romania has a sort of indy rock vibe as well)
I fear for Australia this year Tom, especially, as you point out, that they suffer in the televote. I found the flow of the song a bit jarring on first listen. It also gave me Intelligent Music Project vibes 😂
Yes, have to say that came to my mind also!
🙊
oh lol really? that song was flat AF, this has so many more peaks and troughs
@ESC Tom afraid so Tom imo that is.
I did leave a review but it seems to have gone.
@@ESCTom chances are there will be 6 worse songs in the semi, so they might just do it 😉
They suffer only when they send boring ballads and generic pop, they didnt suffer in 2019 and they wont suffer with great rock
This is by far my favorite this year. Could do without the guitar solo, though, which I feel is a little bit out there. Overall I feel like the verse is better than the chorus, but it's still really good.
