"Forgiveness is the one thing evil cannot stand."
--Fred Rogers
I mean, his professor said that, but still real either way
@@Funniemusicand Fred Rogers would care about making sure the quote was properly attributed. Good work
Great acting, even though he forgives her you can see in his eyes how disappointed and gutted he is to find out. Heartbreaking and warming at the same time.
Or he’s thinking of his own divorce
The moment after she says "I am so sorry" and Jason gives us that momentary scowl and you watch him actively choke it down before he smiles again - fucking MASTER CLASS of TV acting, letting the camera pick up on something that small but that powerful.
You can’t forgive someone unless there’s something to forgive
Positivity outweighing the negativity here. Gratitude for the good in one's live vs the negativity of this one thing/moment.
@@JarinUdom and you carrying the weight and negativity does nothing for the situation.... just hurts you. Good stuff.
"Nice seeing you down here boss, you liven up the place".
Ted is such a nice guy, he just knows how to make someone feel better when they're down. That line always makes me smile every time I watch this scene
That’s my favorite part of the scene.
The perfect "punchline," if you will.
This is the scene that truly won me over to this show. It makes you want to be a better person to people. This is when I “got” Ted Lasso as a show.
All due respect, but you weren't won over when they showed where he got the little cakes from??
His panic attack was what did it for me. However, I went a long time without watching it because I just thought it was a dumb sports comedy. But the UA-cam Recommendations linked me to the Darts scene and the line "Be curious. Not Judgmental" called me out. So, I went and watched it. I haven't been disappointed. No matter how many times I watch these scenes I struggle to pick apart anything about them other than their incredible performances.
I make it a point in life to be curious, not judgmental since watching that episode. I just wish it didn't take me until my sixtieth year to get that Pearl of wisdom.
I caught my husband getting sniffly over this scene !
She takes a step forward then takes 2 steps back in season 2.
The most heartfelt apology I've ever seen on television. She said and you KNOW she meant it. Her consciousness finally got the best of her. Absolutely brilliant.
Maybe not so much that her conscience got the best of her, she just wasn’t used to warmth, so hurting Ted was just a tactic to a bigger hatred. She’s just not used to warmth, so when Ted grew on her she came to her senses and stopped being dictated by her broken heart from Rupert.
Nothing beats Funkhauser apologizing to Larry for being late to the dinner party
She also got an ultimatum by Keeley.
I love that after Rebecca has made her apology, you see Ted go through some emotions on his face. First anger, disbelief, but he shakes that off and when he looks back at Rebecca his face is just one of concern for a person who is hurting. I love this scene so much.
Yeah, especially the anger, it shows he's not this way naturally, it's a choice, and it's not easy sometimes. Great scene
Waddingham is a force of nature in acting. Can't believe she was unknown but then again, there are thousands who are great actors that never get a chance
It's not that she was unknown, it's you weren't watching the things she likes to do. She focused on the stage and live performances.
Shame.
She was only an unknown in America. Not anymore
I feel bad for anyone who is just discovering her she is great and god damn sexy
@@rainydaze9318 I don't think she was known internationally.
Still amazing how a commercial turned into a award winning show
i'm just glad they didn't make it into just a silly caricature of that commercial, but combined the obvious humour of that context with wonderful heartfelt human dynamics and relationships!
what commercial?
@@iamtamasvarga ua-cam.com/video/kGyNf8VorSE/v-deo.html
@@iamtamasvarga it was a commercial for NBC sports for the premier league. He was a Coach of the tottenham spurs in that
I didn't know that. That's cool af lmao
Her shocked expression was some quality acting. She hadn't considered that as an option because almost everyone would be furious at being used and humiliated. This show definitely blew any expectations I had out of the water. Such a sleeper hit especially during at time when there seemed to be little good going for the world as a whole.
Yes! What she really needed was some love and compassion, but she didn't even consider it a possibility, or if she ever dared dream of it, she certainly never expected it from someone she treated so poorly. And when it came you can see the actress sell it with her face. Shocked!
@@joshuaanderson4090the talk of the divorce between Lasso and Rebecca got me big time
Waddingham comes off so genuine and real in this show. It’s not even acting. It’s being a character. Crazy good
Sudeikis does a pretty good job too.
“All you good people, just trying to make a difference.” is delivered so beautifully.❤
That's the line that breaks me.
Their friendship was a better love story than most romantic love stories.
And I'm glad they kept their relationship platonic. I've seen so many people ship Rebecca & Ted. I just never felt that vibe from them. They always seemed like genuine homies to me. Especially in S3 when they adopt Ted & Michelle's "Oklahoma" bit. I'm glad they didn't lean into the stereotype of "men and women can't just stay friends, at one point some catches feelings." It was nice to see a true friendship between them.
This is such a rare event in TV: an antagonist owning up. Just another reason why this series is so remarkable.
LOL
She was never an antagonist
She was one the main actors as well
@@timberm4n379 I mean, she technically was an antagonist in her sabotaging of Ted. Antagonist doesn't have to mean villain, just someone who opposes another.
Also an antagonist who doesn't want to be one but feels they have to be
@@timberm4n379 not very smart aren't you. Antagonists don't only applied to bad ppl or villain, good ppl like rebecca can also be an antagonist bcos she going against the main character. ok yeah she actually want to destroy the team but the protagonist included in that, making her the antagonist
The best thing about this scene is it craps on all that hollywood drama that ted lasso could just be mad and leave for some time and be disappointed. To be honest i was surprised when he forgave her. I was expecting the usual hollywood bs.
What I loved about what they did with Rebecca, is they made her human. They started the show letting you know that she was trying to sabotage Ted. In any other show, she would be the villain. But she isn't. They immediately begin to humanize her. You know how hurt she has been by Rupert. And then you meet him and you're like "My god what an asshole." You get glimpses of just the gutting pain he caused her. And then her friendship with Keely just humanizes her more. Shows that she is a sweet person that was treated poorly. And now is trying to play Rupert's game. When it really isn't her. She can't help but like Ted. She even is there for him when he is having a panic attack. That is what makes this scene so gut wrenching on both sides. On one hand you're sad for Ted because now he knows the truth (but you also know that Ted isn't going to hold this against her). But you're also sad for her. Sad because of what she felt compelled to do. Sad because of the pain she has endured. And sad because at that moment, her revealing the truth, she feels like she may lose everything. And Rupert will win again. Even though he deserves nothing but the worst.
And this is why Rebecca is one of my favourite TV “antagonists”. Nearly every episode she plots against Ted and the team, but each episode also clues you into her reasoning and makes you sympathetic towards her. Then she gets to the point when she cares about Ted but still hates Rupert and still does stuff like trading Jamie. It’s with this scene she does a full turn and becomes Ted’s greatest ally next to Coach Beard
This is perhaps the best comment about Rebecca's character. Thank you.
Yes! What they said
This is why she grew on me so fast!! The acting ability Hannah must possess to start the show as a b*tchy owner character like Major League and Any Given Sunday, and just have her entire heart warmed and become such a bright light in the show.
This fr the reverse of chick and jimmy in better call Saul
I know I'm not only speaking for myself when I say this show makes me want to be a better person.
You're not the only one :)
Me too. Or three.
Say that ALL the time.
This scene establishes a common ground between Ted an Rebecca. They finally get each other and can begin to heal and move forward...and maybe they see a little bit of themselves in each other. I don't think it's unreasonable to wish for 50 seasons of this.
"not much of a hugger" makes the hug more special
My favourite part about this is Ted’s reaction to her admitting to sending Jamie back compared to his tame reaction to the previous two admissions. He doesn’t care so much about the photos because his reputation isn’t important here. He doesn’t care about the idea that Trent might have embarrassed him because he doesn’t care about getting embarrassed. He’s here to, as he said himself, help these players become the best versions of themselves. She stood in the way of him truly helping Jamie, and that’s what broke his heart the most.
You also can see that in his reaction to finding out Jamie was sent back right after he'd just had a true breakthrough with him. He was furious because they were just getting started
Waddingham is of course amazing here but also credit to Sudeikis for the little subtle facial movements to show Ted's emotions through this. You can see he's hurt, then accepts what is being said and then eventually gets to forgiveness.
This is one of the scene that sealed it for me that these writers were not here to fuck around. Even as she was walking to the dressing room, I was already exhausted. Because I knew the show was going to draw out this apology and eventual hard won forgiveness over at least the next 5 shows! And then they just didn't. Instead we were shown how forgiveness can work. Hit me like a punch to the gut.
This! Those five episode you talked about? Those were covered in the expressions that flicker across Ted's face as he takes the apology in. A lesser show would have dedicated episodes to the anger and pain. I love how the writers show that Ted feels all those things. But that isn't who he is. He is a decent human being, and immediately puts Rebecca's feelings ahead of his own, so he forgives her. Beautiful writing.
This is the scene that won Jason and Hannah an Emmy ..
Had to be!!!!
Seeing a woman who has mostly been shown to be cold and distant up to this point in the series suddenly wrap her arms around Ted is truly touching. It's that hug that anyone with feelings recognizes all too well... The simple need for the comfort of another human being.
She is completely overwhelmed by Ted's forgiveness and the compassion he's showing her in a moment when, I think, most people would lash out because of their own feelings of hurt/anger/betrayal/disappointment. That would be completely understandable and reasonable. But Ted is cut from a different cloth. The friendship these two go on to share is one of my favorite things about the show.
Ted is a damn champion for this. Doesn’t even tell anybody.
All you really need in this scene are the faces. The faces convey every single thought and emotion so perfectly, I don't think I've seen anything like it in a show. The dialogue, music and everything else truly make this one of the most moving scenes I've ever seen
I love how as they embrace and Ted starts talking, her eyes go wide and she is absorbing every word he says.
Through all her shame, embarrassment, self-loathing, and rage at Rupert, she is allowing herself to heal through another person’s forgiveness. Even as she is in an emotional rollercoaster, his words cut through.
Amazing work between the two actors.
And one helluva lesson for EVERYONE.
If you care about someone, and you got a little love in your heart, there ain’t nothing you can’t get through together ❤
Who ever produced and directed this show needs to win absolutely everything there is to win regarding tv shows because this was a show to beat all shows. Everyone was a winner actor, and holy shit Ted Lasso is someone that others want to be, I could go on about each actor/actress but is be here all day. What an amazing show❤️
Every other drama feels harsh after Ted Lasso, the amount of heart is so refreshing
The amount of emotions conveyed in this scene is mesmerizing. It gets better with every watch.
I don't watch the show, this just popped up on my youtube page. But GD! there is so much emotion in this scene, from both of them - I think I need to binge this over Christmas break.
This scene hit so frickin' hard if you watch the whole series! One of the three best dramatic scenes in Ted Lasso!
I hope you did! This show is 1000000% worth a watch (and multiple rewatches)! Best to watch it from start to finish -- the writing and character development is beyond incredible.
Did u end up bingeing, did u love it?
For those that wanted these two to get together, it was never about that. They where who both needed in order to gain catharsis and growth at a terrible time in their lives. It was because of this moment that they gained the unwavering support they needed for both to heal and move on with their lives.
One of the best written shows and it's a shame it didn't get the emmy nod for best show/lead for its final season (which would have been a clean sweep during its series run), but still one of the best shows from start to finish.
Perhaps the most truthful and important 3 minutes and 44 seconds in all of TV history.
Geez, I can't watch this scene without tearing up.
Except in Mash when they are told Henry died in a helicopter crash.
Now THAT is acting. That woman played it perfectly ..
With all the edgy, dark, stuff that comes out these days. We need more wholesome shows like this.
Appropriately, Rebecca’s momentary walk to Ted’s office is her own “shame” walk (GOT).
We need more of this in entertainment. To normalize the notion of being decent to one another.
And in the world in general.
The power of three words; “I forgive you..”
Not used enough in today’s society. I try to never hold grudges, not in my nature don’t understand some people holding hatred for life.
I mean, that was Rebecca's arc in the first season. Her ex-husband cheated on her, humiliated her, treated her like she was disposable. I understood why she wanted revenge and so did Ted. That's the real beauty of this show. Not just preaching to you that you should forgive, but to show you that it will be okay when you do.
It requires someone to apologise. If you try to forgive and the person doesn't say sorry with genuine sincerity, they'll just continue to exploit and abuse. Too often I've seen "the bigger person" completely undone when they "forgive" because the instigator thinks "well, that was easy, they're a sucker! I'll do it again". You can't really forgive a bad person who doesn't change. You can forgive a decent person who's just lost their way and wants to find it again.
Sometimes it’s not a choice. If you’ve been betrayed by someone you loved more than anything it’s much tougher to let go of hatred and anger.
It's three simple words, but it can be so hard to let out.
@@pipash3953 Does “require” anything. Not even an apology. You can forgive even if they aren’t sorry by letting go of the anger and bitterness. When that is the case you don’t have to carry the burdens and pettiness.
Being the bigger person is only undone when you keep score and or expect something in return.
Even the ice queen couldn't help but melt for Ted Lasso, he's just one of those people you can't but love and root for
the fact he was so quick to forgive her and see the upside is just something special, people like that are people him are treasures
it absolutely wrecks me when rebecca says "What? Why?" She just absolutely cannot fathom the concept that she'd be worthy of forgiveness, so she's dumbfounded when he offers it.
The great part of this scene is how well Michael Kiwanuka’s Piano Joint is used
I am so glad that they did not do the obvious and make them romantically involved. I loved that they were like best friends!
They were like each other's Yoda.
With the added context of Ted's marriage. . . the scene is so much sadder
Which to me is the reason the forgiveness is so huge. Michelle has betrayed him, and now Rebecca. Ted sees this, and yet his only way out is through. He sees how Rebecca is hurting, and how Michelle is hurting, and he lets it go. Such a good solution.
And the Emmy award goes too..
What a great great series. This is one of the best series I've seen in years. I actually go back and watch some of them again and again.
This and the darts scene are.fantastic, the best of the entire show,......great acting,....
This is so perfect. It really hits the heart of the show. People. How they can change and grow and get through tough times with the right environment. How being kind can mend wounds and give hope.
Ted is such an amazing character. It has to be a blow to basically hear you were hired because they thought you would be the worst person for the job and someone who you respected as a friend and colleague was actively working against you to sabotage your success when all the time you were giving it your best thinking that you had to live up to their trust in you. I knew he would forgive her because of the kind of person he is and the kind of show it is and also her redemption arc should be rewarded, but I did think it would take longer, maybe a whole episode of him agonising over it, ending with them reconciling. Instead, it was almost instant. He’s so pure.
One thing I really enjoy about this show is that it has feel good moments that feel plausible. Not only does Ted have a very forgiving nature, but what good would it have done to be angry at Rebecca? They're obviously both in it to win now so there's no point in making the relationship more difficult.
That last part of the hug applies to her current situation as well
I haven't seen this show but I've watched NUMEROUS clips. This clip may be my most favorite. It shows the softer side of Rebecca and the most vulnerable side of Ted. Both did a fantastic job in their respective roles. I wish this show would get picked up by Netflix.
Ted is so much smarter than anybody ever gave me credit for he might’ve even suspected as such.
Ted is just such a great human being. His life lessons are just spot on
Her reaction to Ted’s forgiveness is one of the greatest moments in this show.
I think this is probably one of, if not the most, sincere and genuine apologies ever written and performed
Ted is such a fucking good man. And a good human being after all.
One of the most amazing tv moments from the last decade
I'll watch this every time it's recommended. And cry every time I do.
This is a "Shawshank Redemption" moment right here.
Our society has become so unforgiving. Accountability and justice; these are of course noble and good things. But so is mercy. We have also become a people cancelling and vengeance. These simple words "I forgive you" following true repentance. Empathy is strength. What a wonderful message.
This whole show is great. It always brings me back to something my mam said to me when I was a kid “it costs nothing to be nice”. Takes Mam. Love you.
This scene makes me cry. There is too much cynicism and hate in the world and this show brightened up my life. No matter how many plaudits they get, I don't think Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Bill Lawrence will ever be able to fully appreciate how much Ted Lasso means to people.
Just finished the first season over the holidays with my family. I was waiting for this moment all season. I assumed Ted would quit the team or at least tell her how hurt and betrayed he feels. I mean, he uprooted his life to managed a game he doesn't understand in a foreign country, all because someone saw him as a joke!
But, instead, he just forgives her, just like that. Looking back, maybe I should've seen that coming.
Part of me feels like Ted knew a little bit. He didn’t know for sure, and he wasn’t tuned in to how involved she’d been, but he’s smart enough to have been suspicious.
I think he’s surprised at when she comes clean, not necessarily that her intentions weren’t the best from the get go.
I wish I could see the whole thing again for the first time. Never been more surprised to fall head over heels for a show in my life.
I think Rebecca wanted to be the villain, but she did not have the capacity to be the villain.
It’s just so easy to forgive but at the same time it is so difficult for the wounds to heal(his frequent panic attacks) lasso teaches us to be a better man regardless of what we are going through even when his life is going down he always uplifts and motivates those around him ❤ great character
you can see that when she admits to instigating jamie tartt's transfer Ted's face takes a visible turn for the worse, that this was what hurt him the most
this is a good show
To me, if she was unforgivable, she wouldn't have told him the truth and she sure as hell wouldn't have helped him when he was having a panic attack. Rebecca is such a great character. It's hard to hold her actions against her (though she should be held accountable).
it helps that ted got to meet rupert to greaten his empathy for her
she's holding herself accountable, there is no need for Ted to.
I LOVE her character.
@@obluraschibus Yes, and she is also held accountable - for her part in withdrawing from Nora her goddaughter's life by Sassy, and for commissioning the photos by Keeley. It's another thing I love about this show - people are held to account, but the people doing it don't hold a grudge. They expect people to change and do better, but they don't carry a chip around on their shoulder afterwards. It makes so many other dramas seem, for want of a better word, childish - everyone temper tantruming and catastrophising, rather than doing what any sensible adults would actually do and trying to find a way to sort things out amongst themselves and get on.
This woman is so elegant and beautiful. Incredibly talent as well
Asking for forgiveness is hard
Forgiving yourself is the hardest
The amazing healing power of forgiveness
unbelievably underrated scene
During my first watch I thought Rebecca was gonna be the villain. Did not see this coming at all.
Gotta give it to the writers.
I still think this is the greatest scene in all of television.
I started watching this show bc it seemed fun, but as I got deeper into it I was blown away by the depth each character has and their development into the story is incredible and remarkably touching.
Everyone should be more Ted
After her apology to Ted she became one of the fav characters
Its easy to hate. That is why we so often choose to do it. sometimes though forgiving someone can be harder. But the fruits of its harvest are so much sweeter. Hate has such a bitter taste each and every time.
I have lots of predictions, but I'm almost certain of one thing - watching the side shot of the two of them facing each other beside Ted's desk, and exactly the same as season two, when Rebecca told Ted about Sam, the series (season3) will end with the same shot, the two of them facing each other in Ted's office, but coming together for a soft warm kiss!!! Fade to black! lol
"Nice seeing ya down here Boss! Ya liven up the place!" Never a wasted line or moment in this show!
What a scene.
I love how the episode before this one Ted wins the dart game against Rupert, keeping him from coming anywhere near the owners box, and furthering Rebecca's appreciation for Ted, thereby making this scene even more difficult for her. Ted for Earth Emperor.
this season is something else man
god i miss this show so much.
“But this job you gave me as changed my life. It gave me the distance I needed to see what was really going on.”
I’m in tears
If anyone is still looking for the music that plays in the background, it’s Piano Joint by Michael Kiwanuka
Years later and I still cry.
While my mom isn’t rich, I remember every moment of her being sad, upset, and angry at my dad when they got divorced. Still kills me to this day knowing what she went through. I’m happy they gave Rebecca the story arch and redemption she deserved because Hannah Waddingham has done a fantastic job. Her raw emotions in this show are true talent.
you're glad the character of rebecca got the redemption she deserved because the actress Waddingham has done a fantastic job? I dont understand, what does one have to do with the other.
When a show uses it's premise to tell a story built around it instead of just what the setting is. You get something special.
She has been an outstanding singer for decades
“I forgive you”. One of the best lines in TV history.
All right I'm gonna say it, Ted Lasso is the Fred Rogers of sports.
Forgiveness is a powerful act that brings emotional healing, improved mental health, and enhanced relationships. By letting go of anger and resentment, individuals can experience profound relief and peace, leading to better overall well-being. Forgiveness also fosters personal growth and empowers people to take control of their emotional responses, contributing to a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
While forgiveness can be challenging, especially in the face of deep or ongoing hurt, it is a transformative process that offers freedom and empowerment. It allows individuals to mend broken relationships, improve physical health, and align with higher ethical and spiritual values. Embracing forgiveness does not mean condoning harmful behavior but rather freeing oneself from the burdens of the past and moving forward with empathy and understanding.
We should all try be a good person like ted, world would be such a better place ❤
This scene is exactly why Rebecca was my favourite character in the whole show.
Rebecca was never a character you could truly hate. Hannah does such an amazing job portraying the feelings behind all the actions, you can understand the hurt. In fact, the more we see of Rupert (especially in season 3), the easier it becomes to side with Rebecca's relentless determination to hurt the pr*ck by any means necessary. This man hurts so many people, and when Rebecca had had enough of his abuse he doubled down on his behavior specifically to rub salt in her wounds. Nothing seems to phase him, except for football. Richmond is the one thing he cares about above all else, *until he decides to just buy another team.* You want to see this man get his comeuppance _so damn bad,_ but everything just seems to slide off him!
I love how despite how angry she is with her self Rebecca can’t hide a smile when telling ted what she done, she’s smiling because she is in a way proud of how ted has already proved so many including herself wrong amazing acting from waddingham amazing actor all around no matter the role she plays
For all of us who’s gone or going though a divorce definitely understands this scene
I love that you can see her early confessions have very little impact on Ted because for the most part, they would mainly hurt Ted and not anybody else.
But when she reveals she's behind Jamie's transfer his expression hardens just slightly, just for a moment, because that hurt Jamie. And more than that, it convinced Jamie he was unwanted right as he started to open up and could genuinely mess with his head.
Ted always puts others first, even when someone is documenting how much they've been trying to hurt him.
Her acting is so impressive.
The power of biscuits
