Thank you for the feedback on the brief explanation of Gen 1 and Gen. 2 pickleball paddle evolution, along with the question regarding the latest Gen. 3 paddles. Basically, Gen. 1 paddles utilized the traditional cold-press construction with a transition occurring within Gen. 1 paddles, in terms of going from a fiberglass face material to a hybrid. With Gen. 2 paddles, you see the advent and popularity of thermo-formed construction along with the use of raw carbon fiber for the face material. The new Gen. 3 paddles are most often thermo-formed, and instead using polypropylene for the entire core material, you are now seeing foam filled (a type of EVA) cores. in the case of the new Gen. 3 JOOLA paddles, less polypropylene is used and what is used is then surrounded by one type of foam, and then another variety of foam on the outside of that. So there are 3 different materials used to makes up the core. When it comes to the surfaces of Gen. 3 paddles, currently you have options for raw carbon fiber, or a carbon fiber hybrid (usually mixed with a proprietary fiberglass).
