Dude, I am a professional chef and let me just say, I am totally impressed by you making a meringue with a fork. It's not easy even with a whisk. Kudos to you my friend. 👏🏻
Get a small cheap hand drill and a small whisk. You can put the whisk into the drill and tighten it down. No need for an oversized, bulky, and expensive stand mixer when you have very limited storage.
Omg you made a meringue and you did it by hand whipping with a fork!!!!! Super impressive. I actually rarely use my stand mixer for whipping meringues (I make macarons, lemon and key lime meringue pies plus baked Alaska). I just use little hand blender on high, works fabulously and fast. All that just to say… super impressive determination and arm strength!! Your final product looks delicious!! Well done Ryan!! Happily awaiting your next video!
Couple things Ryan - did you manage to wash off the undercarriage of the van? Pretty important. And the second thing is - have you looked at the Ferry system? You can pull your van onto a Ferry and ride it the whole way down to the mainland US. Camp on the Ferry deck or get a room for like 500 bucks. Might be an option for you.
You should get a LSD (Limited Slip Differential) installed on your van if you plan to keep it 2WD. So at least if one of your rear wheel have traction, you can get out of the situation and not get stuck.
Ryan, you have to wash the underneath of your van too. I would say it's the most important part to wash from those chemicals for the dirt rodes. I come from a place where we use this products since 100 years ago. Believe me! You need to wash the axises, the fuel tank, the orings, the exhaust, and everything underneath really.
Wow that was impressive. Earlier this morning I watched the dip into the freezing waters (albeit Summer Seasoned) of the Northern Sea of Alaska. I thought nothing would top that experience, wrong, watching you pumping the arm muscle for 30+ minutes to make peaked meringues for Baked Alaska. Endurance. Rewarding. Stay Safe. Thank you Ryan.
Ryan I laughed so hard when you were whipping the merengue🤣 You were struggling but you did it! The Baked Alaska looked AMAZING! I hope your arm isn’t too sore for too long. Great video!😂😂
That's HILARIOUS.......you know most people just don't understand just how dangerous Alaskan roads can be.......its remote, its the weather, its the animals......its a lot! It will show you what your made of thats for sure...........LOL your butt was PUCKERED thehehe
I'm with everyone else who is saying do the ferry! I worked in Bellingham for a few months and actually checked it out, just curious about it. You could stay in your van while sailing home. People even camp in tents. I was always so interested in doing that myself, I'd love to see how it goes for you if you did it. That alone would be an interesting experience. Those potatoes looked bomb! No need for a stand mixer, just go to walmart and get a $12 hand mixer. Your baked Alaska was beautiful!
The ferry sounds like it would be a delightful experience. Also, I agree about the hand mixer. I remember when I was a little girl and my mother used to use one a lot. At least they would be so much better than a fork!
@@shannonking6328 I'm talking like a hand held electric mixer. I kinda feel like those aren't as common as they used to be? Heck with a $400 stand mixer. I'd never use it..I use my bread machine to knead dough, and my hand mixer for everything else.
Congratulations on your outstanding meringue accomplishment using just a fork! Your resourcefulness and dedication to culinary excellence are truly inspiring. Well done!
If I remember correctly, you carry some power tools in your rig. You can use the drill, and manipulate a fork, or spoon in it to whip up the topping next time. I really enjoy your vlogs, and hope for Safe travels Ryan!
Your cv shafts can have mud built up or the back side of your front wheels could have mud built up that causes shaking. Its a common issue with people who go off-road. Before leaving off-road parks, i used to go through a 1-2’ creek to wet any mud on there. I’d then immediately jump on the highway and hit 70 so things could fling off. You’ll hear stuff hit the plastic fender liners.
Mud inside the rims may be the cause of the slight imbalance/wobble of the front tires since they're your drive wheels as well... Turn hard right or left and take a peek since you didn't mention that you did an undercarriage wash on that van, which is highly recommended to wash off all that dried mud on the drive line as well
Glad you made it back to Fairbanks without any problems! I made your dinner from your last video and oh my was it good! I even have enough left over for dinner tonight. One further suggestion for you and getting home is to take the Alaska State Ferry from Haines down to either Prince Rupert or Bellingham. But at some point, if you have not already done this, you need to wash underneath your van. It is one thing to have a mechanic check it out for any hidden damage as well as realign your tires, but you need to clean all the dirt stuck underneath because if you don't, over time, you will start finding rust spots and I can say that for a fact as I kicked out the front floor board of my car after moving to Seattle! Have fun on the rest of your trip and I look forward to your next video! Take care!
The shaking from your steering wheel is probably from mud being in the tire well. I had the same problem with my car and had to take the tires off and clean the inside of the rims/ tire well. It fixed it.
Fold a damp paper towel and put it under your cutting board. It will prevent it from sliding around and reduce the likelihood of you cutting yourself or messing up your cuts/dice.
All I can say is make sure you take advantage of being out in Alaska!! It’s the most beautiful state in the USA with amazing wildlife and nature so since you’re out there mind as well see and do all you possibly can 🙏🏾 sending you love from the Antelope Valley back where you came I to see the poppies with the rest of the tourists who step on the flowers🤝🏾
I must say I really enjoyed your van washing scene. It was cut together perfectly with the music and I think maybe a lot of work went into that short segment. That was absolutely fun.
I drove up to Anchorage in 2005 from Seattle . What a beautiful amazing drive but I wouldn’t do it again. Thank you for sharing your journeys with us ! Damn that’s a crazy amount of gas !!! Be safe Ryan and I hope you can get a nice long break for awhile before your next adventures! Take care from Las Vegas
Ryan, when you get back to the lower 48, find a Blue Beacon Truck wash. They will get them chemicals off your van. They even offer a under carriage wash. Enjoy your channel and the drive up to Alaska.
Wow, you are a trooper.,. I have never beaten meringue by hand. There are mini electric mixers, that can fit a kitchen drawer, for the next time you want some baked Alaska. It looked really good.😋😋 You should do a cookbook.
I've never liked mixing with an electric mixer, from those big bulky hand-operated ones to those small ones you mentioned. I think I find it more satisfying to do it by hand.
The shaking in your steering wheel is probably the balance on your tires. Either you knocked a weight off or you have mud packed in your wheels. Easy fix!
Salmon are running right now. If you cruze to the Anchorage area you will be able to find some salmon runs to fish. Seward AK is the largest salmon run in the world. But there is good fishing all around that part of AK. I'm writing from Wrangell AK.
I think the problem with your shake is that when you wash your vehicle you didn’t get in the wheels them selves. In behind where they usually shim mud cakes up it will cause your wheel to go off balance, which will make your tire wobble and make you feel like somethings wrong.
Clean the underside especially the inside wheels and the area around the brakes and wheel bearings. The mud screwed un my front bearings when I drove the Dempster. I saw the rim after the pulled the tire off and there must have been 20lbs of mud but it turns to cement when dried
Always great day when Ryan uploades videos. You have become 8hr daily routine to have videos playing in the background while driving for work. Great vides and great times. #motto
I’m thinking about buying a van or bus and living in it for a while. Been watching your videos and they have given me a great idea of what it is like to live in one. Love your content!
Bro take the ferrie! i swear u wont regret it. if your gonna spend ,money to ship it, take the ferry and ride with it! absolutely beautiful with lots of content u could d on the trip
Ryan I have so enjoyed making this trip you. I can’t say how much fun I have every time you put out another video. Again I will continue following you on every trip we make together Thanks ma
Just a heads up using a non-standard rug on the driver side is quite dangerous. There is a reason why they make the hooks to hook them in place. If the rug get stuck under the brake or above the accelerator would not be fun.
Oh man you shouldn’t have added the sugar until you had some structure in those egg whites. However thank you my dude for making this amazing content. Can’t wait to join you on your next adventures
Those potatoes are called home fries. It's a normal thing to have with breakfast. A lot of people in the country have it that way. I had it a lot growing up. Bacon and eggs and toast and home fries.
Wow! You’ll have so many fantastic memories. Thanks for bringing us along. I always waited in anticipation to see your next video because you do such a great job of it. You’re a “one man” studio. Happy travels 😎
Before you leave Alaska you have to go to Homer and go to the Salty Dog, then go halibut fishing on a charter, it was the best time ever when I was there
Dude, I am a professional chef and let me just say, I am totally impressed by you making a meringue with a fork. It's not easy even with a whisk. Kudos to you my friend. 👏🏻
Yeah, same here and having done this by hand with a wisk before, I can't even imagine doing it with only a fork! Respect!
Ryan is the man!!❤
Ryan you sir are MacGyver. You aren’t afraid of anything ❤
Ryan,I love your show, I just recently discovered you. Your recipes all look so YUMMY. And your girlfriend is adorable. God Bless you.
I'm not sure which was harder...the drive down the alaskan highway or making meringue with a fork😀
Now, this comment made me just go all the way off the edge with laughter 😂😂😂
Haha yeah if you whip it side to side instead of fast mixing ill work faster
Kudos for whipping the egg whites by hand with a FORK, and not giving up! You are a determined(stubborn?) young man! Thanks for the entertainment 🥰
Get a small cheap hand drill and a small whisk. You can put the whisk into the drill and tighten it down. No need for an oversized, bulky, and expensive stand mixer when you have very limited storage.
I love how he says hit it with a little garlic powder and then makes it rain garlic 😂😂
As he should hahaha
Take a cordless drill and attach the main fork part to it and use that to whisk the egg's with it. Real easy that way.
I literally laughed out loud at hand whipping meringue! Impressive 😂
Omg you made a meringue and you did it by hand whipping with a fork!!!!! Super impressive.

Of course he’s got good arm strength he spends a lot of time alone 😂

the meringue with a fork segment is possibly your most impressive feat yet

Ever considered taking the Alaska Marine Highway down to the Lower 48? That would be something different and avoid much of the tedious drive.
If you take the drive back take the Cassiar. It takes you down British Columbia territory straight down to Vancouver.
Nothing better than waking up to a new Twomey video 📹

Oh wow, can’t believe the hand whisking worked out! You can put the egg mixture in a Tupperware type container and shake, shake, shake!

Try skaking the egg whites in a closed jar. Thats how we Whipped cream to make butter when I was in the GirlScouts.

The things you do for your channel.! Love the beating of the egg whites!
Woooo back to Walmart... Great times with cheap supplies....
Hey man, that vibration is probably a bunch of mud caked up in your wheels throwing the balance off. We see it all the time at my shop.

Pro tip....Hey Ryan, if you have an electric drill which you certainly should, put a fork or spoon in the chuck and have at it

Anchorage to Montreal,,,,DO IT!!
My mom made baked alaska when I was a kid! We had sliced pineapple on it. She actually baked it in the oven! Good memories ❤
@ryantwomey that shaking you're feeling is more than likely mud stuck to the inside of the wheel you just have to clean them out
