Making a Duplicator Tool for the Lathe - Copying Tool

- Fox builds a Lathe Duplicator tool. ...or is it a duplicator tool for the lathe? I mean, it doesn't duplicate lathes, it copies patterns you put on the lathe and trace with the tool... you get it. It's a copying tool, for the lathe! 😁
This tool was built specifically with an upcoming project in mind where we'd have to make a whole bunch of handles for some old chisels:

Nice work and great video. Thanks

The one ring?
GREAT VIDEO CAN YOU USE WOOD INSTEAD
Thanks! 😊
You could make one out of wood, but it would be significantly more delicate.
Well done mate!! How is the bottom tool (the one that touches the template) held in place?
Thank you! 😊
There are grub screws that go in through the bottom. That's what all the drilling and tapping was about. 😉
I know it was in fast motion, but try turning the beveling bit real slow. They aren't meant to be turned fast at all. That's probably why you were getting the chatter.
I will try it slower next time! 👍
your wife said you better get that mess cleaned up:-)
Would this work with a brass rod instead of wood? I want to make brass curved decorations.
Possibly! People freehand turn brass all the time, I don't see why it wouldn't work with a template. You just have to go slower. 😊
I would be very afraid using that tool to cut the metal. (Forgotten the name of it.) Because of the many burns I have experienced as a result from seizures, (my epilepsy).
When you have a condition that may cause lapses in awareness, it might not be a good idea to use power tools, no. At the very least one should take extra precautions! ❤
What is the wood cutting bit in the duplicator?
It's one of the carbide cutting tools from the lathe (that one specifically is from HarborFreight).
I have never seen someone put tape on a drill bit like you did. What is the purpose of that trick?
It's a depth gauge, so I know when to stop drilling. 😉
@@SculptyWorks Oh, that's a good idea. Thanks for replying!
@@bdgackle 👍👍
I wonder how it works on brass
Gonna give it a try sometime! 👍
How'd you make the template for the part?
I designed it on paper then traced the shape on a piece of wood, cut it on the bandsaw, and refined the shape with files and sandpaper. 😊
Thank you for the response, I'll probably do that. Also happy new year.
@@alecmajor9 Happy New Year! 🎆🎆
We got computer graphics!
Pixar, I'm coming for you! 😉
Why wouldn't you use wood instead of a steel plate
The forces involved are pretty high, wood would easily dent/deform/break. Would have been a lot easier, but it wouldn't last. 😉
:O
😁
Sell me this tool plz
But I need it myself!
