    After watching this video I decided to order the Duplicator from PSI. Also bought pen, bottle stopper, and chess set templates. Can't wait to get them in. Plan to use an idle mini lathe as a dedicated setup for this device. Thanks Santa and others for the Christmas gift cards and cash that I used to purchase this setup, and thanks, Gary, for doing the video!

      Thanks for watching! Glad it helped you on making your decision. I often search for videos on a product before buying too. Very useful so long as it's not a sales job. Have fun! 👍

    Very educational. You have an easy to understand delivery and your explanations are great. This answered my questions about duplicating. Thanks for your videos.

    Great Video Gary, have the same duplicator, but never really tried it out a lot. With this video will have to get it back out and put on my Jet Mini lathe. Saw a couple of things I might have been doing wrong. Getting new shop 14' x 24' setup with insulation and heat, should be ready in about a week. Once again great video and tutorial.

      Thank you! I hope you enjoy your new shop and using your duplicator. I found it to be fun, and a lot easier than I expected.

      Thanks for watching! I apologize for delay in responding, Just had some cataract eye surgery done yesterday. I haven't finished making the chess pieces yet. Barely got started. COVID hit and a lot went to the wayside. I'm now getting back up on things. I'll post a video on making the chess pieces. Thanks! 👍

    I purchased it in order to duplicate pepper grinders and salt grinders the average grinder is about 2 1/2 to 2 and three-quarter inches do you think I’ll be able to

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  Рік тому

      Thanks! I would think salt and pepper mills would be easy to do as are various handles for ice cream scoops, pizza cutters, etc. 👍

    Hey Great Video ! I have a question for you do you know about the wood carving basswood carving Hen & goose eggs can I use this Lathe Duplicator to duplicate
    them on my wood lathe so I can wood tuning them myself please let me know

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  2 роки тому

      Thanks for watching! I've not used this duplicator for such projects as that. Basically when I want a new template for something I made, I have to sacrifice a product and cut it in half to get a form for the duplicator to follow. Make a metal template from that for durability and ability to mount in this system. Thanks! 👍

    What rpm's do you run your machine at for the duplicator and sanding parts? Thanks

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  5 років тому

      Thank you! I run the lathe at the usual speeds as for doing other types of turning. Smaller pieces such as pens I can run faster. Larger pieces slower. I know not everyone agrees, but this is what I learned and it works well for me.

      Thanks for watching! I would suggest to contact PSI for instructions in Spanish. I would think they would as I think Spanish is the 2nd most common language on this planet. Penn State Insdustries. PSI. www.pennstateind.com
      You can contact them at 800-377-7297.

    This seems quite tedious to set up and align. Is there any way that you could register it on the lathe somehow so that it's quick to put on and take off, once you figure it out for your lathe! I love the potential here but if I set it up for a couple pens and then needed to take it off, then put it back later... Well, it might be quicker to just become a master Turner haha!

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  3 роки тому

      Thank you! Unfortunately this one doesn't lend itself to quick set ups unless you make pencil markings on things. Even at that I would think it would need to be tweaked a little with each set up. If you get any great ideas, let us know! We'll have our eyes open too. 👍👍

    what is the largest diameter you can turn with this duplicator

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching! I am out for a couple weeks so not able to set up at this time to measure it. But I would guess it depends on the furthest out the duplicator can be located from spindle center. That lathe has a max turn diameter of 10 inches. I would make a guess at about half of that with the duplicator.

    Thanks for the video. I was wondering...how thick of templates will the template holder accept? Could you put in a template that was say 1/4" thick instead of the 1/16" think that it looks like you are using? Or at least an 1/8"? Thanks!

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  6 років тому

      Thank you! I measured the max opening to hold a template to be about 1/8". You may get more by putting in longer screws, but probably not recommended. Thanks!

      Cool. THanks for the prompt reply. I ordered one of these based on your review. I think I can cut some 1/16" acrylicl templates with my laser cutter. Looking at making different styles of chess pieces and don't want to be limited to what is commercially available. Appreciate your help!

    Have you tried this using acrylic?

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  5 років тому +1

      Thank you! I have not tried any acrylics on this yet. I expect it will work as well as with usual turning of acrylics. Actylics are more delicate and touchy. Avoid heat build up. Be sure to have a sharp carbide cutter. The carbide cutter I got for this I bought extra. It comes with a HSS cutter. Good for woods, but I like carbide for acrylics. Some may disagree. Thanks!

    Could you set this up with a high speed router to make the cut?

    • @GaryLundgrenCrafts
      @GaryLundgrenCrafts  4 роки тому

      Thank you. I think a high speed router would be too fast. Too dangerous. The most I run a lathe at is about 3,000 rpm. Most routers run in excess of 10,000 rpm.

      One thing I’ve found you may add, I have the turncraft commander 10-18. Have three different nova chucks… which would not fit as they hit the knob. Replaced knob with long machine screw. Made first practice pawn… need more practice.

    Gary, your alignment is going to be off because you did not align your drive centerpiont to tailpoint of the tailpiece center point! Woodturning 101!
