ESO sincerely has a moderation problem where they seemingly ignore actual abusers in this game but swing the ban hammer over petty shit.
Also ZeniMax can and will pile up very recent “infractions” and hit you with 3 in one go resulting in you being in your “last chance” until a permanent ban.. this happened to me and luckily I was able to repeal it somewhat
Yeah, this also happened to the player mentioned in the video. He got permabanned for the guild name, which got knocked down to a 'last chance', and then a few days later he got perma'd again for the character name he'd been playing on for months. ZOS don't seem to track and/or care when an 'infraction' actually takes place.
You can get banned for t-bagging any npc. I do not know how they will know something like that unless another players reports you with video proof. Players can get ban for insulting you in any way. Those toxic players that enjoy trash talking to others, I am happy they are getting their accounts banned.
it's crazy how when you report someone for harassing messages they ask you to send screenshots as proof..... makes me believe customer support don't even have access to chat logs even. and they don't ban them if you can't send screenshots as proof 🙃
My account i had since launch. Years upon years of play time had almost everything got banned because when trading with a guy we argued and cancelled trade and went our own ways and because I never gave him his 50k gold back I got banned… perm ban and when I explained it to them they still would not unban me because I had no recordings and the other guy did so yes you are correct
@Azuraaaaaaaaa Taking someone for their word now a days is not safe for anyone. The fact that they are asking for proof is a good thing. Imagine someone reported you for something you didn't do, and with no proof you got banned. It would be a whole different story then. As far as the chat log goes, maybe they do, maybe they don't. Either way, thousands of people in how many zones write every day. Who in their right mind would think it's a companies job to look for proof on their behalf when that individual won't take the time to provide any form of evidence? What's this world coming to when even the simplest of things to do become such a burden.
@@Lorde_Wolfman---WpProwlers because it is literally their job to moderate... the only proof they should need is the actual chat logs in game and there's no way you are telling me that they can't access chat logs for specific users. imagine someone reported you and sent a photoshopped image of something you never said. it isn't hard to do. they should be checking logs instead of trusting random pictures sent to them by players.
@Azuraaaaaaaaa Sadly, it's probably not. Their job was to build the playground, not moderate who's in it. That's why they have such a long TOS. However, I agree, that if given evidence, the time stamp and parties involved should be investigated. I can see someone actually going through the trouble of fabricating a lie.
Ive been banned on the forums since 2016 because Gina Bruno didnt like me talking about how shitty they treat their customers and their lack of listening to the player base when it comes to fundamental game mechanics.
Crazy they ban such miniscule things in a game about intense conflicts, fighting, 'deleting' characters, dark/dirty npc dialogue. Youd think with its dwindled player population theyd be more cautious banning people.
You'd think so, but from what I can see, ZOS only realized quite recently that player retention is important for a healthy game population, and there is no infinite well of Skyrim fans they can draw from to make up for all those leaving/being forced to leave.
I'm going to be real with you. There is obviously bigger issues that have pushed this to be an issue now, after microsoft now owns zenimax and microsoft wants to push it's power to exert control over all kinds of different games. Eso is not the only game facing this as an issue, and frankly, for anyone paying attention to this as a collective issue facing the world, it almost seems like top down corporate decisions like this unfortunately obviously dont care about the effects on the affected individuals, or heck even who they are. I sadly, truely doubt that you're ever going to see clarification on this. Microsoft has no incentive to be fair given their policies.
Perhaps. All I can do is talk about it, and at the very least it may make people aware that they should be careful with what names they choose and what they say.
I have never received a warning. The only time I received consequences, I got a 3 day ban once for telling a warden to move his "fat bear" out of the way of the turn-ins (this was before we had the option to hide pets). I've quit a while back, so I can only imagine how quick I would have been banned with the way they are currently moderating if I were still playing.
I remember you. We were turning in our daily crafting in Vvardenfel AND his FAT BEAR was on top of the turn in box 🤣 . At least I would like to think that was you 🤭
This happens in the forums too. Not for names, but just for basic speech. I got perma banned for baiting when posting a discussion about a game balance topic (there was no bait, and they listed no specific instance in the ban, and my appeal was bot rejected). You can't really do anything about it; Zos normally has moderators that edit your post and remove what they think is "bait," but due to it being really vague, critique can be taken that way. Didn't even realize you could get banned for it due to the normal moderation of the forums, let alone permanently banned. I wouldn't have participated in the forums if I knew you could get banned for posting something he devs don't like, probably would have stuck to the eso reddit instead. I'm not banned in the main game fyi, just the forums, but dedicating time to posting topics to get banned, I wouldn't have posted in that forum since it's not really a forum, but a echo chamber at that point.
The name reason is usually why I explain my name in MMOs nowadays (Cherushi). I've been asked a lot about it in guilds and the story is admittedly funny in my opinion (maybe even wholesome). Back in my second year of high school, my friend had persuaded me to finally try out FFXIV's free trial so I installed it. Once I got to the character name, I found myself struggling with a name for her. A few seconds later, our Destiny 2 raid team hopped on so we decided to run Spire of Stars. After everyone left, I decided to continue reading Akame Ga Kill. It was the next chapter where they introduced Chelsea, except her name was "Cherushi" in the manga and I guess I enjoyed the sound of it, so that became a mainstay for me in MMOs. Due to how awkward the pronunciation is, people have given me nicknames like Cheru, Cheri, and Chels. Thankfully, most people likely know that Cherushi isn't anything bad, its just a Japanese pronunciation for Chelsea
Just leaving this here in hopes it helps the algorithm. Very important video I'm apparently breaking ToS with my character name (taken from BG3) and had no idea. So stupid...
Witnessed a ban over a joke towards a crown buyer. Jokingly wanting to use the buyers own payment to buy it themselves. Silly. Perma ban, no warnings, nothing. 9500 hours down the drain. Jeez...
I was once given a 72 hour suspension for spelling a word the way it had been spelled for more than 1,000 years. The problem with my use? I didn't use the spelling that had become more common since 2010. I went to school decades ago and learned the old form.
one i know was banned for about a year and a half for a card game exploit which was more a bug when new, checking mail bag then accepting made a victory
Did people not read their announcment that Zos is now using AI to monitor all ESO group chats, area voice chats, and Xboc party chats? Thats what happens whenbwe allow AI to take over.
My experience with the disciplinary system was a requirement to change two character names. They then proceeded to threaten me with a perma ban for any further infractions. This was my first and only interaction with the disciplinary system. That was bad enough but lately They seem to be handing out bans for the tiniest things, using their AI algorithms. Sucks, all the hilarious @ and character names are disappearing.😢

In return, they said in 2 email human error wont get my crown back, i got tricked hard, lucky i saw a reddit post complain bout it to proof there indeed people get wrong item during the Elsweyr update, yeah eso customer service is bad.
i got harassed by my guildmate who is a real peter file (who dm he into a minor), so i expose him in game, and he harassing me everywhere i go by follow tp to me calling me a peter file in reverse, reported nothing happened, hypocrite much the zos ban system.
I have been a positive, peaceful member of the ESO community for 6 years. Several months ago, I got permanently banned because of my character name "Picks on Small Children". I had this name for 4 years with no complaint, then all of the sudden it was deemed so offensive that I could never play again. No warning, no request to change my name to avoid such a penalty. Just boom - done.
Odds are someone reported it after all these years. Sounds very harsh to instantly perma someone; right now I could log on and probably find someone out there with a worse name within 5 minutes.
IKR! I got banned permanently for having the name 'Inclap Dat Azz Cuz' when it's a play on Incapacitating strike. And I've seen WAY crazier names jus pass by.
I got name changed and warning for "I wanna Duck a Catgirl" (can debate if I should or not, but whatever), tho I never touched pvp with that char. Only played trials (mostly organized, cuz I really doubt I would get reported by friends/guildmades) and rnds. Character is pretty fresh tho, only around for like 2 months before I got name changed
I hate lame bans but I also hate overtly stupid and/or lazy character names so I'm torn on this one. I may or may not shed any tears for fallen warriors such as the mighty Plzdpntreportme or Oldsalteebaalz the Wise. May they rest in peace.
on xbox 1, many years ago, before i went to pc with eso, i got angry of the bad - very bad - performance of eso in cyrodiil. xb1 is not really capable of running this game decently especially not in cyrodiil. so i started to write really offensive and demanding things in their eso xbox feed messages reactions. insulting also. after doing this a few times, i was suddenly unable to write anything for weeks in any comment on the xbox one feed. Played since beta. Went through the ToS day 0. 20 maxed characters. 10-20% PvP (daily lately). Never banned. Sounds like a "you" issue (generically "you", not a personal attack). I live by the "try not to be a dick" rule. I see many who try to push limits (or worse ... or far worse). Does the "stick close to lore, don't be a dick, & don't mess with the game" really need to be explicitly laid out? I personally like a hard-line approach. It's why the community is still wonderful after all these years.
It would not need to be explicitly laid out if the rules were applied consistently according to those criteria. Over the years I've seen many friends lose their accounts temporarily or permanently over minor infractions or even completely nothing, while players who consistently misbehave and got reported with ample evidence are still in the game today. That's not a hard-line approach; it's complete RNG.
@Degonyte I hear you. One issue is that there is likely a half dozen folks managing this, with replacements for holidays etc. Combine thst with the notion that many things are gray and/or have two sides arguing their own bias? Consistency is tough. Doubtful anyone could do a perfect job. Could they do better? Almost certainly, but at a cost. I'd find it hard to believe that the "RNG" you describe is intentional.
@@Doodelz02 Consistency becomes tougher the more complex the rules are. The current rules are very complex, as they require support agents to investigate the context of many incidents and probably navigate a lot of bad faith arguments and manipulation of facts in the process. That's why one of my suggestions is for the rules to just become more black/white (i.e. something is or isn't allowed regardless of the context), and it would be a lot easier for support agents to reach a decision. The RNG is not intentional, but it is a result of the hole Zenimax dug themselves when they went with this context-dependent rule set.
has there ever been a real court case of any kind regarding a unlawful banned player ??? in any way either the player sueing zos or something zos did against a single player ?
Not that I know of, and several sections of the TOS protect Zenimax against such an action. For one, as I say in the video, the TOS states that the account does not truly belong to you. Additionally, in another article it specifies that in the US and most other countries you are not allowed to bring legal action to Zenimax, so by agreeing to the TOS (which all players do), you effectively give up your right to sue them.
They would have to do something that would bring forth a class action suit before they could be sued and that would to make a promise of something receive money for it and never stand true with their promise other than that the game belongs to them they can do as they wish

Just behave yourself like a decent Human being and you should be fine. If you have character names that obviously mean something profane then if ZOS does not catch up to it, other players will and will report you. Don't insult people in chats, don't talk any kind of trash. Enjoy the game and have a good time with anyone also looking to have a good time. Players are confusing having fun in a game with being toxic in a game. That way no one will have anything to accuse you of.
@SUBJECTM01 all my characters have lore friendly names or have references to characters from games i played as a child, aranged to make them sound lore friendly I only talk to my friends and people in dungeons/trials who proved themselves to not be toxic, i avoid pvp like the plague I know this sounds like boasting, but i behave myself in eso (and other games like guild wars 2 and dungeon defenders 2) But to take the words from your message (if i understood it corectly), players take having fun and bend its meaning to sound like someone is being toxic :/, saying that people should return to habing fun, that line itself, has easily-molten lumps of spring-time snow reeling in their boots because others try to fight their left extremist or right extremist political garbage, if it was just the players and zos itself then i wouldnt be worried, zos is also usi g AI chat monitoring, ai should NOT be trusted for anything, i donot want to risk my account so id rather be a hermit then risk my account everyday because someone doesnt like it when they have to fight with someone in battlegrounds that sucks at anything pvp thanks to a handicap thats not even under my controll, or in the case of pve, solos/duos world bosses wothoud resurecting the player who died What, a conversation about LORE, for example the dunmer and khajiit and the dunmer's terrible practice, can cause players to go completely nuts! In this case it wasnt me luckily, but a good friend of mine, they got their account banned for 3 days because they partook in the lore discussion, we managed to get his account unbanned in 1 day because he showed the screenshots of the chat (a habit i picked up after this issue, i started to screenshot every conversation i have so it cant be used against me) I already lost my steam 4 years ago to angry eso covenant pvpers, sure it wasnt zos, and the solution after getting my steam back was eazy, avoid pvp or die trying But this AI crap? honestly mentioning Hoarcrux stuff makes your case weaker here... Im not a fan of the guy, but some/most? of his perma band were for infractions you are questioning in this video he is another topic entirely!! just not ideal here and this JTK video is not a decent reference when cherry picking (sadly because I ws expecting better from JTK perso)
I personally know people who were affected by his psychotic behavior in the game and was there to see the complaints ignored and 1 of his permas (for a video showing exploits that had a title along the lines of 'This will get me banned') overturned. He is a perfect example of ZOS struggling to remove actual bad actors from their own game.
What?? Not only was he highly toxic, but he repeatedly exploited and showed other people how to exploit all while bragging about it and mocking ZoS by saying he was untouchable. It wasn't some misunderstanding or some mass reporting...dude knew what he was doing, bragged about it, then tried playing a victim. Not to mention doxxing other players. Good riddance. @@alext5630 For as far as I know he got banned for exploit-related offenses each and every time (and there is ample evidence he did those things). I witnessed his last 2 'perma' bans in real-time as they happened, so I do not buy that JTK took any of that out of context. That is just how it happened. He even anticipated being banned for it in one of his video titles, so he was clearly aware of what he was doing. I have no interest in hearing his side of the story because he has been caught multiple times just flat-out lying about what he was doing. Also, just as an aside, saying something was 'taken out of context' and then not providing that context doesn't exonerate him in any way. I am also aware of shit he did that he never got punished for, like falsely copyright striking, doxing another creator and using his audience to target/slander people on stream in very gross ways. There is no 'context' that makes any of this less bad, although I'm sure he has some bad faith arguments and lies in store to trick people into thinking that, like he did with the whole charity fiasco. The guy is just a classic scumbag who sheds crocodile tears when the jam's up. The only injustice in the way he was handled was all the ill-deserved second chances he kept being given.
These comments really makes me wonder if this ban policy needs to change. We have people in the comments complaining about this policy... when they are impersonating staff, stealing from others, or other incredibly stupid actions that would get you banned in any game. He got permabanned for the guild name, which got knocked down to a 'last chance', and then a few days later he got perma'd again for the character name he'd been playing on for months. ZOS don't seem to track and/or care when an 'infraction' actually takes place.
btw i don't know if it's true or not but apparently you can get banned for trash talking to bosses in solo arenas
Never heard of that before, but I imagine that if you use certain words that can get automatically flagged, that is well possible.
could be true as person/bot checking your chat logs doesnt care about context and if anyone actually saw your message at all
I made a joke about some dungeon bosses and got suspended 3 days.

If you train your staff and ai using only unicorns and rainbows. To then send them to Cyrodill you cannot expect a different result. 😂

I completely agree, Zos is losing customers due to their wokeness, im on a final permanent warning over having pvp char name that was Letz Have ABaby
Lol, ESO is a dying game and the Zenimax is trying to speed up the process.
I fully agree with what you said in the video.
I hate lame bans but I also hate overtly stupid and/or lazy character names so I'm torn on this one. I may or may not shed any tears for fallen warriors such as the mighty Plzdpntreportme or Oldsalteebaalz the Wise. May they rest in peace.

Oh crap. Forgot to thank you for your response. Very cool!

Don't insult people in chats, don't talk any kind of trash. Enjoy the game and have a good time with anyone also looking to have a good time. I personally know people who were affected by his psychotic behavior in the game and was there to see the complaints ignored and 1 of his permas (for a video showing exploits that had a title along the lines of 'This will get me banned') overturned.
It is starting to seem more and more like the issue is the community is very toxic.
Criticism shouldn't be banned, but the community has shown it has a large incredibly stupid portion that needs to be heavily monitored. It sucks.
Clownest take of 2024. Circus arrived early.
