We'll get to relive it with Cloud when he regains his real memories. They better make it heartbreaking when he realises she is actually dead.
The intro of the Part 3 will be, that we´re not going straight to the northern crater. Instead somethin´ major will happen, like with Tifa in Gongaga. So Tifa and Cloud are falling into the lifestream and Cloud finally get whats really happend in the end here. He will be devastated and it will be heartbreaking.

Somethign super meta not sure if it was mentionned, when you start the jenova fight, EVERYONE has their limit breaks up except cloud. Limit breaks are by definition "when your anger reaches a breaking point" meaning every1 except him reached a breaking point becuz hes too delusional to realise what actually happened

So messed up that now there will be this weird group dynamic where everyone is grieving about aerith, except cloud. Cloud knows more than them, sure, but still from their perspective it’s gotta look so bad to see someone so indifferent toward the recent events. Im excited to see how that will play out in the third game.

I got it and it was exactly as I predicted, which I loved - but the changing of my favorite scene of all time was a hard pill to swallow
I love virtually everything else about the game....but honestly, re the ending, this is what people used to say about the Matrix movies back in the day, and it's kinda irksome. You can get it but still think that 'it' isn't very good.
I dislike the ending because it's a mess of conflicting tones; Aerith dies and that's sad, but wait, the characters are doing action movie quips, and here's a huge chunk of fanservice and a crazy boss gauntlet, and Aerith is here for the final battle...and now the music tells us to be sad again, but it's hard to think of her as dead and gone when she's walking around and talking, and it's not *entirely* clear what happened cos it could be some combination of 3 different things and I'm piecing that together, and I have a rough idea, but that I'm having to think that much about what just transpired is distracting.

The death of legend like Akira Toriyama, The last Movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Shogun new series, Dune 2, Final Fantasy Remake and Rebirth by Tetsuya Nomura and the team... A treasure to be protected in our memory for years to come...

My take on the ending. When we saved Aerith, we created another timeline where she's alive. If we noticed right before Cloud intercepts the Masamune, his sword is surrounded by the Lifestream. Also, during the scenes where Cloud would originally say stuff like his eyes burn etc, it's presented as the distortion while the TL where Aerith is saved is presented as the current. I believe this is her doing. She made Sephiroth believe that he killed her, hence why when she re-appeared in the final fight, he said "I underestimated you." Sephiroth also says his tears are empty, as if he's crying for no reason shortly before Aerith tells him it's ok.
Also during the ending CS, the rift in the sky. Didn't that only appear in the alternate timelines? Like the one Zack was from. It makes me wonder why Cloud can see it but the others can't.
I believe that at the end of Reunion (which I also heavily believe will be it's name), Sephiroth succeeds in merging worlds, which brings her and Zack back to us for the final showdown with Seraph Sephiroth.

This is my take too. But I think the convergence will happen nearly-mid game. To give Aerith and Cloud some more time to catch up.
Aeriths been planning this from the beginning. Sepiroths been playing 4d chess and Aerith has been playing chess against reality

Though og was just pain for Cloud. Pure pain. Wasnt happy at any point after Aerith's death. Maybe, MAYBE when he found Denzel because he thought Aerith helped them meet. That's it.

@@rexarc2477Sephiroth got trolled by Aerith. The floor glows with her magic. She swapped the timelines with the one where she died. Cloud understood this and told her "I got this" while he took care of Jenova she activated Holy in another timeline.
That's why Sephiroth admits he underestimated her.

The Jenova first fight here has Aeriths theme for the battle music...just like in the OG T_T. This is now one of my favorite games of all time.

and duuuuude we’ve never seen cloud smile like he smiles when he sees bits of aerith still being alive somewhere out there. he looks relieved imo and we should feel that way too. i have full confidence they will give us the best outcome, including a reunion! just like you said, OG ended somber and tragic and this time we close off the franchise with a fanfare. that’s what kitase said he wanted anyway, and he’s the freakin producer!! i’m so happy to share such an amazing story with all of you wonderful, passionate people!!

Man i almost can't believe this game is soooo goood and makes me cry even almost 30 years after i played it in 1998. You're right: there's no lows in this and the made it even better now. So many emotions, a really really fun, sad, enjoyable, terrfying, lovable adventure....makes you imerse real deepinto it. Certainly there is no other game like this. Graphis are so good , i mean the best i've ever seend in a video game and yet it pales in the depth of the narrative and emotions it brings..... Can't wait to play this installment...don't have a PS5, gotta have to wait on PC. But i'm really glad you made this video, i didn't see the other ones, but your comments and vibes during gameplay were fun and solid. Nice job streaming. I gotta admit, the parts that they changed with the whispers is a 2 edge sword, i bith love and hate it because it changes stuff that i loved but it also brought new incredible stuff, which makes this remake something else entirely, it's not like they did the same thing thifferently, they did a new thing with the same old game, creating new possibilities and expanding the universe. It's marvelous

Sup man. Finished the game yesterday 109 hours....your video popped here for me. Rewatching the ending, after reading theories and stuff....was fantastic. I liked it at first....now I love it so much. I gave the game a 98/100 but...after starting hardmode and rewatching the end, it's a 100/100 game. We are so lucky.

People say the aerith scene doesnt hit as hard but for me it did it broke me especially when you fight jenova and the music hits and that choir man such a beautiful rendition of Aerith's theme. Red XIII keeping his name is actually very interesting character depth! As we saw in the trials, Hojo was his greatest trauma. Him keeping Hojo’s naming as a "warrior name" is him accepting this trauma as a part of him that he’ll never be able to forget or erase - but through his actions as a hero he can reshape the meaning and legacy of that name. Really beautiful stuff.
I also choked up at 2:12:00 when you said that about our favourite game 😭 mine is FFVI, which square says is way too huge for a remake 😭

They gave us like 2 different versions of One Winged Angel in all the fights leading up to the final standoff between Sephiroth and Cloud/Aerith and they were all great, but then the TRUE One-Winged Angel comes blasting through the headphones to let you know all the others have been warmups, and THIS is the last fight.

5+ different timelines and crossovers between them and zacks talk in his timeline "just as worlds unite,so too do they part. but whos to say they cant unite again?" would possibly give CONVERGENCE from all the splitted timelines to prime timeline...so like zack,aerith and even biggs (they did him dirty but his reason to survive could be convergence to main) could come back..and yes cloud did save aerith from stabby in one timeline but got yeeted to the "main timeline" where she died (non bloody/bloody Aerith) so she still has possibility to come into main timeline

Then we get to see everyone have their moment for Aerith, Cloud resting Aerith into the water, then the rest of the scene plays out like we saw with everyone grieving and Cloud in complete denial and blind to the situation because of his degradation / amnesia.

My theory of what happened is that in the timeline you played in when you reached her, he did save her. However, the screen flashes and she's stabbed which directs to the timeline of the OG where she did die (or a similar one with the same sort of outcome). During the fight, the crew fights Sephiroth in one reality, Zack in another and Cloud in a third along with Aerith. Cloud is now in a multi dimension, just like Sephiroth is doing but he's protected by Aerith as she's in control of it. This means he can see her in one reality, but he's present in another which means the others can't see her. That would explain why Aerith saw Zack carry Cloud during the end of remake. This means she's both dead, and alive, depending on which timeline you refer to. The Cloud we saw in the end of Rebirth scene is the Cloud from "Aerith lives" timeline, but he is placed in the "Aerith dies" one. This shit is making my head hurt, but I embrace the pain. I love this so much, I love to speculate and as soon as I'm emotionally ready to dive into this after finish the game, I will start looking at youtube videos where they speculate on this. I wish I was this interested in getting a real education as I am in this video game. It's unreal.
Not to mention the fact that the lifestream is connected to all time periods at once, meaning once aerith has died at any point in time, this "future" aerith can use the lifestream to communicate with cloud. This is why she talks about "future me" in Costa del sol and in remake why she knows things she seemingly shouldn't. But most people haven't read nojimas story about aerith and sephiroth so they don't get that she realized how he is used the lifestream to return in Advent Children and decided to essentially do the same thing to try and stop him.
On some other video comments, the speculation is that Aerith, because she's "dead" in one timeline and "alive" in another timeline, she's in limbo in a parallel timeline. This is, particularly, pertinent given certain lines spoken. During the fight between Sephiroth and Cloud and Aerith, Sephiroth comments "I underestimated you." Why would he say this to a ghost? Then Aerith thanks Cloud for what he did. What did Cloud do? Created a timeline for Aerith to exist in.

My guess is he understands that he saved her she needs time in the other timeline to activate Holy. So he keeps Jenova and Seohiroth busy until she activates it.
That's when she steps out of the portal to help Cloud. It's the Aerith that he saved and in turn, she finished summoning Holy so she came to his defense. That's why Sephiroth says he underestimated her.

"you've played your part. Begone." his tone is angry. Whatever Aerith did really pissed him off. We don't see an angry Sephiroth in the whole compilation.
My first thought was it was Sephiroth or Jenova messing with Clouds head but when Cloud picks her up after the battle the glow reappears and she opens her eyes and smiles. This isn't a trick, he did save her but she's trapped in another timeline for now.
It took me a little bit of digesting the ending but the more I think about it the more I love it. I feel like theyre putting the player in the head of Cloud with how shattered, split and hollow he feels. The "last goodbye date" wih Aerith is like ny bew favourite scene in any game.
As it happened in OG. Cloud is the unreliable narrator once more and never been so broke!
This game immerses you in the best Final Fantasy could be presented this generation. It feels magical!!!

I didn't cry or get upset this time around, partly because I prepared myself she might die anyway but also because of the multiverse.
I'm not sure how I feel.
On the one hand, it's basically how Cloud feels so it's not wrong to feel that but also it's fine if you are upset.
But on the other hand I feel like it wasn't as impactful.
Of course, I don't know how anyone could make it as impactful a 2nd time.
What I can say is I really enjoyed the game and overall, enjoyed it's direction.
I do have my issues though.I am aware of the comments by the devs now, but I had intentionally hid away from all discussion for years to avoid spoilers.
As a result, so much was "new" to me that had been in trailers that I was overjoyed by the surprises.
However, I was not happy that Cid and Vincent had such diminished roles.
I think it's easily the weakest part, as Cid is reduced to a fast travel Taxi and Vincent......well quite frankly he could have been left out with how little he was in it.
The thing is, they aren't even my favourites i usually don't have them in my party so I can only imagine the disappointment of some fans.
I get why, they want to give you that in the 3rd part plus it's less work but narratively, I feel Cid and Vincent had no reason to be in this game that wasn't contrived.
Be that as it may, it was a very good game.
They were so masterful! Everyone, even people who never even played the original, knew Aerith was supposed to die, and despite that they still made it shocking.
That was the old game, this is a new game with a different ending, we still have a final part to go yet, unknown journey.
Small correction to your read of the ending of the original FF7. The planet is not dead or dying. The ruins of Midgar clearly have vegetation and life growing on them. Red is still alive and has children. All of that is to show that planet is alive 500 years later. It's actually not a sad ending. However, the ending is ambiguous about whether humanity is a part of this future or not. But both options are positive outcomes in different ways. The first option is that humans are alive but have abandoned their heavily industrialized lives and stopped exploiting Mako and now live in balance with nature again. The second option is yes, humans are extinct, but the planet is alive and thriving. Either way, life goes on. Both interpretations are bittersweet, but def not grim. Bittersweet endings were pretty par for the course for all of the golden era FF games (6 to 10 all come to mind).

Yeah the thats the debate i was in that ending in OG FF7 was the bad ending and humans got wiped out but life still goes on. The reason is the failed to protect the last Cetra. Thats why i thought it was going to be a literal remake where we save Aerith and get the good ending this time.

I also don't think that the devs are going to a perfect timeline ending. First thing is that we really shouldn't have an end where Aerith and Zack live. Not because I don't want it. I do. I love the characters. But it would completely spit on a core theme of the original game which is about loss/grief and the lengths people go to avoid confronting it. (Cloud being the most illustrative of the theme, but others in the main cast also show it to a lesser degree). Death of our loved ones is a part of life, we have to face it and let go of any guilt/desire to change the past so we can move forward. That was a key idea in the original game. If you have this trilogy go in a direction where we actually change destiny and end up with a perfect ending, it would entirely invalidate that original theme. And narratively, as it stands, Cloud literally cannot come to terms with his trauma and fulfill his original arc because he has a literal deus ex machina that erases the conflict with both Zack and Aerith being alive.
I actually think the devs are going to go in entirely the opposite direction. I think they have very intentionally set the idea in our mind that we can change destiny. Only to make the last game about accepting that we can't (but not in a bitter/cynical way). In a way that evokes the theme of the original game and can still give meaningful character interactions that give Cloud/Zach/Aerith closure. I think that Aerith and Zack will both die. Zack likely to protect cloud, because that's who Zack is. He's someone who would do anything for his friends. And I think Sephiroth will succeed in converging the timelines into one with meteor. So Aerith will sacrifice herself to summon holy to save the planet and her friends. The trilogy has followed most of the major narrative beats of the original game so for, I don't think that'll change in the last game.
What's the point of all of this if we don't change anything? Why get our hopes up? Precisely because many of us have a pre-existing emotional stake in this. Almost all of us who have played the original game wish we could save Aerith and Zack, in direct contradiction to the theme about acceptance of grief. Cloud can no longer go on his arc bc the two are alive. So he needs a new arc for the next game. The most tonally consistent one would be where he is trying to stop Sephiroth but also has the goal of reuniting with his friends to get the "happy" ending. But over the course of the game he, Zack, and Aerith coming to realize that they can't change that fate (and with excellent character work) finding acceptance and closure. While we as the audience follow the same emotional journey. It could drive home the theme of the original game in a really powerful way.
Anyway those are just my thoughts. Great playthrough. This game is a masterpiece. Loved seeing your reaction to it.

OG fan here, rebirth is my new favorite game of all time as well. I know its not for everyone and there are people that are disappointed but for me, it was an amazing adventure. I loved all of it and didnt even finisj absolutely everything. The way remake felt, the almost cozy linearity contrasts so well with the wide open exploring of rebirth was perfection. I cant wait to one day play all 3 parts back to back.

So many close minded purists are so annoyingly hate this game because it’s not a 1 to 1 remake but if you see it as a sequel it makes it better. Same people who are hating what square is doing are the same rgad would get bored of this game if it was an actual one to one remake. I loved this game and especially the characters.
Yeh that blows my mind, as someone who's not super familiar with the original but am very invested in this, can't believe some long time fans are dragging the story. They've managed to make a game here that is old and new at the same time masterfully.

This is the 2nd best Final Fantasy for me, below FFXIV. They borrowed from so many games to improve storytelling via environment and the journey. They showed as much 'show-rather-than-tell' vs exposition, which helps with immersion so much! This would be the best Final Fantasy for me, if only I didn't know how much FFXIV storytelling actually influenced Rebirth (and it shows; Temple of the Ancients feels like the final Shadowbringers dungeon with Emet Selch)!
This is exactly why it's been bothering me. Yeah if this was supposed to be a remake it'd make sense that they were so angry. The best way I can put it is a comment I've seen a lot: remake is both a noun and a verb :)

They didnt need to change perfection to the extent they did. Peoples critics are valid. There is a reason square is doing pretty bad right now. They messed up the most emotional moment in gaming history, thats just it. Then they threw in way to many twists. We didnt need that, it was already interesting enough. They wanted to please the fans but 90% of people playing this game did not get the satisfaction of saving her, nor sadness of loosing her. Thats where they messed up, and even though its one hour of the game its the most important part. Have not seen a single video of people being emotional to this ending, only confused. Multiverse is booring. I was mostly annoyed how my favourite characters was killed in other timeline than the main one, like it doesnt even matter. And adding Clouds father… Sigh… Like a Colombian soap opera.

Everytime I watch this im crying my eyes out, my throat dries up, it hurts to swallow.... maybe I'm too emotional to this game but this is how I feel about this story. This remake just brought back so many memories of happiness, pain, grief, loss...

Btw did you notice? All characters but Cloud have their Limitbreaks ready? It's like they are all emotionally so upset but Cloud being the only one being calm because Aerith said "Its okay"

I appreciate that you are one of the more respectful players. I wish more streamers actually paid attention to the storytelling but I will watch respectful people that have fun without treating Aerith like she’s an annoyance simply because she’s got less sex appeal. The story is beautiful. Barret is so good in rebirth.
Aerith is not a fan service character like Tifa , Aerith is the main female heroine of the story, but most players aren't interested in the story and just like the fighting , also Aerith is my favorite character and she deserves a chance to have a different outcome than the original.
Please let Aerith in 3rd game!!! Lets go!!!!

Aerith definitely died (at least in the groups timeline). A nice little indicator I liked that they put in to emphasise it is when you go into the jenova life clinger fight, all the party’s limit gauge are full but clouds isn’t.
Fully ties into the fact that clouds in denial about it

You have a misunderstanding of the ending of the OG. Everyone isn't dead. It shows that the planet recovered and life rrturned to midgar.. When the title card shows at the end you hear kids laughing and playing, indicating that people live on happily.
There's still sentient Life on the Planet of course,but all the human race it's gone to extinction.....
that goes against the Remake scene last chapter, where it shows OG ending (red running), and he says "the future if we fail here today" or something like that. It's not a good ending for the people, it's a good ending for the planet.
If you know the original I think Cloud's mind is fractured into multiple realities until Tifa puts him back together.
This is not the original and might not happen that way, there is still an Aerith and a Cloud alive in Zack's timeline, and there is more than one timeline.

pure delusions. in reality, we are seeing a psych ward cloud making things up as he goes. Just like in OG 1997 but now its masterfully done. Or should I say, original story re imagined.
It makes sense if you believe that, Aireth, the one handing cloud the white materia and tossed him back in time was the one that was the same Aireth that cloud saved. Closing the loop. Aireth knows she needs to die and avoiding it causes ripples in time maybe?

Aerith is dead, She now only exists in the Lifestream, Whatever Cloud is seeing that no one else is probably his broken brain or Jenova..
I'm still convinced that cloud seeing aerith is Jenova manipulating him as apposed to him being unable to accept aerith is dead.
The whole game they kept playing with the whole "Jenova can becomes those you love, those you fear, those ryou hate" concept with tifa etc and I think now cloud thinks he has a grip on reality Jenova has managed to sneak her way in to manipulate him further.
I think Sephiroth wants the black material, but Jenova wants the white materia.
Crazy ending.
But holy, the most crushing part out of all of this, is Tifa not saying a WORD after Aerith died.
She is DEVASTATED and it is heartbreaking to watch.
Her facial expressions were crushing that entire ending set of sequences.
Then you pan over to Cloud and he’s like, happy and content, because in his mind, Aerith is alive.
It’s is absolutely haunting to watch.
I think Aerith intentionally projected herself to him so he doesn’t lose his mind.
If Cloud loses his mind, it’s game over.
She even says that you have to stay you, take care of yourself, etc.
As for the Zack stuff, 100% Aerith guided him to Cloud through the white lifestream, which I think he was running through, to help him versus Sephiroth.
To see him be okay with dying in the meteor world, knowing he made a choice, helping Cloud and the party, to defy fate, make his own rules and go out on his own terms, which was literally his entire storyline this game, was the best part of his arc to me.
But alas, we have not seen the last of Zack.
BECAUSE,
100% Aerith saved him from that meteor world, creating that time warp thing just before it hit, to send him somewhere, which honestly might be our timeline.
I’m not 100% on that, at first I was hesitant, but that Zack in the church, is 100% functional, self aware, and for all intents and purpose, functionally alive.
Now, where is that?
Who knows man.
The whole point is that Aerith is trying her hardest to save everybody she loves, even if she has to die for it to happen.
That’s what makes her such a great character, and a true hero.

Finally the players who really thought they could save Aerith can remain silent.
You don't know what the true ending will be yet, everything is just speculation because the game isn't over.

If it doesnt work they will throw in another timeline that will fix the issue… But yeah lets hope for all the fans. Not buying the next one myself, I am done with this company.

People are really hyping this game up for no reason lol, i haven't finished it yet but just the Zack section make me think how much of a mess the story turned out to be. At the end of the day for me this game will be a solid 7/10, the Remake was slightly better.
