@@marysheahan1458 I called last year but didn’t get a clear answer. It could be that no dog was entered for that breed or they couldn’t come for whatever reason (illness, etc).

Ok for anyone wondering where the Wheaten was, this was what I found on a message board about the absence; There were a handful of Wheatens. There was a best of breed winner. They just chose not to enter the group ring for one reason or another-which is ok. I’m surprised how much hate and anger people have towards the dog show as a whole(not in this post-but I’ve seen plenty on FB) just because an owner chose not to go into groups. It is their prerogative and sometimes due to various reasons they don’t go further than breed. The dog could have had a bad day, too young to be properly represented in the group ring. They had an emergency pop up? They didn’t want to be on TV. The list could go on-We don’t know what other people are going through. So yes, did it suck that our breed wasn’t represented? Sure, but that doesn’t mean we have to be mad about it.
If you could hear the annoying "hot mic" conversation, they were talking about this and saying something about "vet" and "conflict of interest." And there it was. Very unfortunate for the Westie.
Not sure I completely understand - if the judge is known ahead of time, why go through the exercise of being half-evaluated? Why would you go to all the trouble if you know you can’t win because of a judging conflict?
@@WaitingForGuacamole I wondered this too. But maybe for all the years of work and expense of breeding a "top dog" to have your dog in the limelight as, rules aside, the dog did win its spot by merit. If the Westie goes to Westminster, it may have another chance.
