I feel like because motherhood has been such an "obligation" for women, through my life I have been exposed to a lot of "you don't need to be a mother" messaging, which often shows the chaos and stress of having children. Or, alternatively, very trad-wifey or otherwise shallow-feeling "being a mother is great, it's perfect, children are the meaning of life". I feel like this is the first time I actually believe in someone telling me they like to be a mother, without it feeling fake or cynic. And it's a nice, warm feeling. Thank you for this song!
Even if motherhood was rare, you always grow up surrounded by people who are the product of people who want kids. You're always raised by people who want kids. So it can't become 'normal' not to have kids, even if it was the norm. (*Apply asterisks whenever appropriate, I didn't want to include qualifiers like 'mostly' etc.)
@@FlapMeister I am not sure I understand what point you are trying to make, but I'll try to reply. Yes, I grew up surrounded by people who wanted kids and had kids. But I don't really feel like that generation really had a "choice", it feels like for most of them it was "the thing that you do".
@altertopias yes, and my point is that it will always seem like 'the thing to do' even if more than half of people didn't do it. Because every generation is by definition the product of people who did it. And in your twenties and thirties you'll hear some people go against the grain, and after that, it's irrelevant again. So it can't ever feel normal not to want to have kids, even if it was completely normal. It's not something that can be normalized. It's just math. (This mechanism is sadly also why we'll have to have pride events for LGBT people forever, because traditional families reproduce at a higher rate).
@@FlapMeister I don't understand how that's relevant to my comment, though. Also, regarding your last comment, being queer/LGBT is not inheritable as far as we know. There have been queer people (or at least, queer behaviour, as sexual behaviour hasn't always been thought as an orientation) all throughout history, and there will continue to be.
I have NO idea why this was recommended to me (honestly, probably because of the word "boob"), but I'm 100% in love with whatever algorithm that guided me here. I called my wife over to watch it with me after about a minute and we were both laughing and crying with joy. What a beautiful, hilarious, and joyously accurate song. "Happiest I've ever been" indeed. Alana, I hope you get all the recognition you deserve!

If a mark of good music is its ability to fill the audience with the feelings of another, than congratulations on this sucess. I'm not a maternal person. Adult woman, but childfree and happy to be. This ode to motherhood made me feel *your* joy. I felt the warmth in your chest as if it belonged to me.
I was going to say something similar - I'm a trans man who was never so happy as when I got my hysterectomy and was childfree by choice long before I transitioned, but this gave me such a lovely connection to womanhood and a spark of joy for you and all the women like you who find so much happiness in a life of motherhood. Fantastic music!
I'm not a mom but we need more songs that tell the story of motherhood - it's such a big part of so many women's lives, and you don't hear about it much unless you are a mom. Love this!
My baby is 17 now, but this took me back to those halcyon days that were full of messy days and magical joy. Enjoy those sweet years while you have them, Mamas. You won't believe how fast they become only memories of a truly beautiful chapter in your life.
From the thumbnail and title -- and an artist unknown to me -- I did not expect to like this but I clicked anyway. What a wonderful, positive, hilarious video accompanying a wonderful, positive, hilarious song. Good going, Ms. Wilkinson!
What an amazing job of taking very universal feelings and expressing them in very specific experiences that really work even for people who don't have those particular events in their life.
Such a sweet song, and I love your sense of humor. I could see this as an epilogue song for the musical Waitress. I'm so glad to have found your music.

I usually ignore music recommends, assuming they're young punk/pop teens whose music I've outgrown long ago. Within 5 seconds this was musically/harmonically creative, lyrically dazzling, and beautifully sung and shot. Truly nice work Alana & crew. And kids too.
This was amazing. It's good to see that people can actually make something creative. When I pressed it I was expecting it to be some ai thing, but I am happy to see some human art, with effort behind it (of which paid off by the way!).
