    Good to see that a pro builder like Ben has the same problems and issues as a amateur kit/partscaster builder like me does. No matter what Ben's build does look the business ... Love that Black finish on the body ...

    Not only beautiful upon its completion but also fun and inspiritational to watch it being built. As always, Ben is a riot and his work is excellent. I think a Crimson Kit is in my near future. Keep up the awesome work and thank you.

    I'm not sure if it's been said before, but teaming up with Toby and Phil for the background music is one of the best things you've done for your videos. The results are very professional with a brand specific identity. Great job!

    Wow! That blue base cherry neck is so inviting to play. The gears are turning as to what I would feature on a T-style Crimson kit guitar. I'm sure it would be the very best available accoutrements to make it my own source of pride.

    For a long time I wanted to make myself a guitar. However, I have no experience with woodworking at all. It kept me down from achieving my dream for a long time. Watchin your videos kept my hopes up and I am currently getting parts to start with making my dream guitar. My vision is to make everything nice natural and wooden. Wooden pickguard, wooden thurt rod cover, wooden pickup covers. Thanks for giving me confidence!

    Contest entry: Your contest made me consider and I came up with this new idea: I'd consider a "burn burst" as I've just named it, and layer the effect of the burn technique you've shown on this guitar. Start with a light burn all over, brush, another burn, not in the center, brush, another burn, dark, around the perimeter.....

    Looks awesome. The copper pickguard and electronics plate look extremely excellent.
    I had a T-type kit, I'd only do a couple of things:
    Finish would be a candy apple blue with a deep gloss or a silver burst, matching painted headstock too. Satin finish poly on the back of the neck.
    Fret dots would be swapped out for metal rings of approx same size, with a centre matching the fret wood as close as possible.
    Hardware wise would be a six saddle bridge with string through, possibly a humbucker in the bridge and either a humbucker or a lipstick in the neck. Smoked chrome if possible for all metal elements.
    If it wasn't pre-routed, I'd forgo the scratch plate entirely, but in with the kit body, I'd look at maybe doing something much smaller, maybe just a small chrome panel around the front pickup.

    This series is giving me so many ideas for my next project. It’s a Tele style. Mine will actually be very different from this. But little things like the neck screw ferrules, the toggle switch idea, etc… Can’t wait to get all my parts in now and get started.

    I really like this finish and how it makes you able to feel the Wood grains on the body
    If I'm able to buy one of your kits I would apply a Mahogany stain with lighter edges to give a vintage look to it then an oil finish as I tend to love the feeling of the wood of my guitar.
    for the scratch plate I'm thinking simple dark brown with a little pattern to it.

    It should be possible to change the colour of the copper using a blow torch, when I was a plumber we sometimes used to anneal copper tube by heating it until cherry red then cooling it very quickly to soften the copper to bend with a spring. While heating the copper it changed colour in an almost prismatic way. Try heating up the copper and then quenching with water at different temperatures the copper changes colours radically.

  • @fepatton
    @fepatton 7 років тому

    Awesome! The copper pickguard is a beauty and I love the idea of the blued screws. If I were to build one, I think it would be pretty minimalist - a smaller, non-traditional pickguard to show off more of the wood, and perhaps a small inlay somewhere on the front, with the control plate in a matching wood. Then spray it down with an amber lacquer, because I'm too impatient (and old) to wait for it to age. Subscribed!

    That is a monster my friend. It in away makes me think of Woodstock with the way you did the copper design. I just love it and as said before in prior comments, You Are A Genius and I will be looking into buying one of your custom kits and a Tele is what I'm thinking. Remarkable work and you make it sound so easy to do but yet I think it will be a learning experience for me as this would be my 1st. run at it. Also, love all of those vintage tools you have and prefer them over modern day tools . Keep at it my friend and keep sharing your beautiful work. I'm still amazed at how this Tele style turned out and wish I would have known about the give away sooner as I would have had my name in the hat for the drawing for sure. Thank you again....

    I would fit an s-type neck to a t-type body to end up with something like the Joe Trohman signature. I'd also install a switch in place of a volume knob; I never use anything but 0 or 10 anyway.

  • @Kompoth
    @Kompoth 7 років тому

    What a lovely guitar ! Love the burnt finish.
    Seeing the "mahoganish" color you brought to the neck, I would test it (maybe a little bit darker) on the entire body with a glossy finidh. And then make a T type kit guitar in the spirit of a JEM "Woody" with a nice wooden pickguard and nickel hardware. And setup this with a H/H configuration (so I'd route the cavities). As I'm not a huge DiMarzio fan (although Dark matter 2 covers look so great) so I'll turn to Classic 57"ish" pickups made by one of our talented small French pickup manufacturers.

    When I buy my kit I’m going to customize it by carving designs into the body of the guitar and using the wood burning technique on it that you used on this guitar here (I’ve been inspired to do that ever since I’ve watched you experiment with it for the first time). As well as experiment maybe with some aluminum and copper tape designs on it and buffing it out to make it shine (I’ve learned this technique from Adam savage in some of his cosplay builds on his channel Tested).

  • @germanemigrant5844
    @germanemigrant5844 7 років тому

    I would use a wire brush to remove some of the soft grain to give the body a weathered texture, then stain it black. the neck would get painted with multiple different stains to get a "spotty" finish and the headstock would get a matching finish to the body. Id pair that up with chrome hardware and an aluminium scratch plate and som singlecoil sized P90's.

    As for customising, I'm not imaginative enough to compete with Mother Nature. There's one thing I'd like to see added, though. As you mentioned, you won't put the Crimson logo on since it's a kit guitar built by you. How about a "Kit by Crimson" logo? At least burnt somewhere hidden like in the neck joints?

  • @arieljosuemolinajara664

    I think ... paint the body of a dark coffee (walnut or something a little darker) and with fire would make some type of etching. The pickguard and hardware would be black, also would put some pickup Seymour Duncan color zebra. The neck would be the same color as the guitar and would lower the union between the neck (modern bolt-on) and the body. Congratulations.

    I found your channel through Phillip McKnight, Know your gear. You have a great channel.
    That telecaster is awesome.
    I subscribed and liked, I'm looking forward to watching your channel .

    I love the visible wood grain on your kit, so if I were to customise something on it, it would probably be some wood burning for some decorations.

    To be honest, I feel I've already won something as I'm lucky enough to be able to watch you work through these videos. For that, I could never thank you enough for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. I took time to share your pinned post but unfortunately I've already been a subscriber to this channel for some time. That being said, I can't help myself from describing what I've been wanting to do with a kit guitar for several years now even though winning this one would be somewhat pointless as I'd most likely never let it see the light of day if it were mine. I'd have to lock it away like my one little personal treasure. I'm considering purchasing your LP style kit for this project (though it wouldn't be until late march if they're available). It's been in my head for years to see a guitar with a poly carbonate top on a guitar that lights up across the entire surface. Not just lit up but actively pulses with the frequency of the notes being played in real time. Similar to a wave form visualization in a media player. Not just pattern but color as well. Not to mention that the clear poly wouldn't be transparent but possibly dyed and etched or even cracked looking to give it a crystal like appearance. This would prevent you from seeing the individual LEDs aiding in defusing the light as it passes through the poly. Think of it as a lazer light show in time with the music. As I said though, it's not about winning a guitar. It's about seeing a dream come true.

      I apologize. I was interrupted. I just wanted to add that I've seen integrated lighting done before with dot inlays and things like that but this will be on a whole different level. I plan to run the lights up the edges of the fret board and if I can find a way, I'd like to light the head stock as well though I haven't figured out a way of doing it without compromising strength. Still some work to do but I'll get there eventually. Thank you again for all you've done. I've learned so much from watching your videos and I look forward to seeing what you create next. Take care.

    I would customise one of these kit guitars by:
    Right handed Tele body
    Left handed Tele neck
    Re-route the bridge pickup for a humbucker.
    Have a schaller Hannes piezo bridge
    Bareknuckle Juggernaut bridge pickup in brushed chrome cover with custom geometric Pickup tattoo
    Impulse single coil neck pickup when released, until then slow hand neck pickup.
    I would put a flame maple cap on it and route the control cavity through the back. Stain the back black and the top in a red to black burst.
    Chamfer the neck heal.
    Stain the neck in a nice deep red colour, similar to padouk.
    Control wise I'd have a toggle switch to switch between piezo, magnetics and both, then I would have a volume pot and a rotary switch to complete the guitar. And this is something I will be doing when I get the money together!
