    how to fix a sloppy neck pocket: • How to reinforce a loo...
    I built this beautiful strat with 42 different tone options, and honestly, it blows away any strat for 4x the price. Let me show you how I did it right now:
    Now I started with a cheapo strat kit that you can get on eBay or AliExpress for about the prices on these things fluctuate based on demand, so if they seem more expensive now, just wait a while until the prices drop again (and they will drop again).
    But Firstly, as I do with all my kit builds, I had to start by leveling and crowning the frets, and fixing the sloppy neck pocket by shimming and adding extra angled support screws for increased sustain. I’m not going to go into details here on how to do those steps because I have videos dedicated to it which I’ve linked in the description. But if you want your guitar to play like a high end guitar, and sustain like a high end guitar, take the time to do those steps. Also, a quick tip: if your kit came with a plastic neck plate grommet, go ahead and chuck that in the trash, you’ll get much better sustain if you allow the bare metal plate to contact the body directly...

      Hey man, loved the video. In fact I loved it so much that I purchased everything to do an exact build as described in your video. I plan on converting an old Squier Strat that I've had since High School into a beautiful sounding and playing guitar. I just don't play enough to justify spending a 1000+ on a nice guitar. I'm going with a satin black wood finish, the cf pickguard and all gold hardware, I'd love to show you how it turns out in the end if you'd be interested. Anyway, I'm quite well versed when it comes to soldering and wiring (I did this as a profession for a period of time), however I'm pretty new when it comes to wiring guitar electronics and understanding the nomenclatures. I was wondering if by any chance you had created a wiring diagram when you wired this guitar up, and if so would you ever consider sharing it. Great video as always, I look forward to the next one.

      J. IV Guitar I've seen a few people do a similar trick and it's also turned out nice. Ben over at Crimson Guitars did something similar with a maple neck, except he used an oxy acetylene torch for the job since it gets way hotter. The point is to caramelize the sugars and drive out as much moisture as possible while doing this without actually setting the guitar on fire lol. Anyway, Dan's idea of wrapping wire and faux tiger striping is a very interesting twist on the concept :)

He's a master luthier (guitar builder) and he has a ton of excellent in depth videos on building guitars. The secret is to pull the relevant parts from each video. Dan has great vids on which tools you actually need (surprisingly few) and Ben covers everything in great depth. Hopefully that'll help you get started! I haven't built a guitar yet but I'm planning to go nuts and build a crazy PRS custom style design! xD

      Brett Johnson just swap necks :]. u can get a cheap knock off neck and just crown and level it if needed and put in new tuners and a new nut and ur probably good

    • @sleepdeep305
      @sleepdeep305 6 років тому +1

      Hell, you might be able to get away with flipping the nut/strings, if you’re really desperate.

    • @brettjohnson1597

      The Author tried that already....found a 1996 Fender Mexican Strat at a garage sale for $100 with hard case. Flipped nut and strings and it plays fine sounds good. However periodically while playing will my strumming hand with hit the volume and turn it down. Also have to use a cable with a right angle end or strumming hand hits it. And the worst part is it’s almost impossible to play above the 15ish fret as it isn’t cut out for that. Would cut it to work but the guitar is in mint condition and don’t want to ruin it. As for now it’s a great rthym guitar

    Dan...I love your videos! I'm on a budget and love to try and get the best for as little cost as possible. This Strat build was awesome! I don't play metal and don't like Floyd Rose tremelos, but I loved seeing you build this guitar! It's really a nice guitar for someone into that kind of music and I appreciate all styles. I have what may seem like a dumb question about the zebra pickups. I just installed a set on a Les Paul copy. I've seen them in all kinds of configurations color wise. Sometimes cream on top. Sometimes on the bottom. Some I've seen where the cream faces inward on both. That's how I did mine. Does it matter which way you install them if you're not doing a coil split? Thanks for any help!👍😎🎸🎶

      74dart man it doesn't matter if you aren't doing a coil split

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  6 років тому

      It technically doesn’t matter, but people typically put the screw head poles on the outside and the flat poles on the inside. Not sure why though.

    If you buy all those tools, time, work.... That means like $ 1000... So it's better to just buy one finished guitar.

    • @MarioXMaseratiXNBE
      @MarioXMaseratiXNBE 4 роки тому +9

      True, but after buying the tools I suppose you can build more guitars in the future for a great price rather than paying used or full retail.

      Router
      Drill
      Dremel
      Screwdrivers
      Saws
      These are tools that were once commonly owned by regular people. The parts for guitars are going to add up a lot faster than building a guitar. Obviously you don't need to buy a laser cutter for a single pickguard; unless you plan on making many of them. The same could be said for a lot of specialized tools, but with the basic tools listed above, lots of work can be done.

    Dan, I keep finding out we are a LOT alike! I am all about guns, guitars, DIY, dad jokes, and mountain bikes. I actually have some really cool mountain bike content coming up. Where are you from? Maybe we can get a ride in sometime!

      Ah cool, I won't be out that way until next season. I am doing the east coast this season, just trying to get my van build done. As soon as I build that and a rickenbacker kit I'll finish off the rest of the east coast. Maybe I'll swing your way for the winter?

    Excellent build and great demo by max. Very entertaining.
    It was really good that max demoed both pickups and his shredding verified that the guitar was set up very well.
    The carbon fiber pickguard is very unique. Personally, I would've used chrome covered pups to match the rest of the hardware .But that's just my preference.

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  6 років тому

      I was looking for chrome but couldn’t find a good deal on them to keep it under budget. Honest I was hoping to paint the zebras to match the body, but realized I couldn’t separate them from the pickup without ruining it. Oh well. It still looks really cool, just not how I hoped.

      I second that.
      How about a flying - V with a combination of P and Jazz Pickups with phase switch?
      Or maybe a flying - V fretless with the above configuration?
