- EVERYTHING you need to know to manual swap your EK Civic! I do assume you have some basic understanding/experience with working on cars hence I’ve skipped parts such as how to remove a drive shaft/axle. As part of the project Honda Civic EK VTi sedan, I am manual swapping it. In this video I have detailed every step of the journey. My car also has the rare CVT automatic gearbox, so some of the parts are slightly different, but the majority of it will be the same.
I go through the steps of removing the auto gearbox, flex plate, auto shifter, shifter cable. I also detail the steps of installing the flywheel, clutch, 5 speed manual gearbox, clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, manual shifter linkage. There is also a few little things to do with key interference pin, wiring for starting the vehicle and getting the reverse light working. I was able to run my original automatic engine wiring with no issues, there are a few empty plugs now hanging around. The hardest part of the swap is probably just having all the right tools to do the job. As long as you have all the parts ready to go, it’s literally out and in. So make sure you have the right gearbox mount, torque mount, T bracket, gearbox, clutch fork, clutch, clutch master cylinder, clutch pedal, clutch slave cylinder, clutch line, clutch fluid/brake fluid, gearbox oil, S20/S40 gearbox, shifter linkage, approximately 2x 1.5 meters of wire.
Quite a few parts are shared between the EG and EK as well, so many items are interchangeable such as clutch pedal, gearbox, drive shafts, shifter linkage, clutch master and slave, etc. Just keep in mind B series and D series are different.
Please be sure to give me a thumbs up and subscribe!
Just to clarify, I am not a professional mechanic. Working on cars and documenting them is my hobby and I hope to be able to help you work on your old 90’s Honda too!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Great info.
Congrats on the swap. I recommend you get that auto brake pedal changed out for a manual one. Most believe you have to change the entire brake and gas pedal assembly to do it, but you can really get away with changing out the brake pedal only and keeping the same gas pedal. I did it that way and it wasn't bad at all, and i've never had problems with doing it that way
Cool! Thank you so much for the tip. I'll try that out
Excellent job, man, respect, keep on rolling your videos, greetings from Ukraine
Thanks man! I really appreciate it!
I can only dream of doing this some day - I can’t even wrap let alone swap!
Just got to try bro! Hope the video helped
Do you also need a manual intake manifold and throttle body? Really good stuff mate!
hey man great video it helped me do mine this weekend im almost finished. Do i need to get a manual ECU or is the auto one fine to run? Are you driving with the auto and its fine?
I have a question, man; I am planning on doing a b series and manual swap in my Ek at the same time. I was wondering about the mounts for the transmission. Would I still need to get the torque mount and top mount for a manual? I am assuming I need to get the top mount and torque mount from the b series transmission or do the d series manual mounts (top mount and Torque Mounts) fits the b series transmission.
B and d series have different mount all together. So you need all the brackets
Oi I got a question I watched this whole video to see how you handled that upper trans mount. Are you running without it?
I have this project coming up for a friends 97 ek and it’s also an HX. So we got the frame Mount piece from the junkyard and then we will drill the frame and put in the nut inserts so it’s like the every other ek chasis. Hopefully 🤞
Yeah, that's one way to do it. I am still making the bracket right now.
@@forcarssake I just did it and that is the cleanest way and it preps you for other swaps like if you go B series 👍🏾
@@civicstar982 all the best with the swap!
Hey bro I got a question did u use the auto ecu and auto harness?
Cause you have check engine light?
I used the auto ecu and harness, the engine light was because the air intake wasn't installed, and the air flow sensor caused the error.
Hey, man, how is it going with your upgraded beauty? Hope you enjoy it in the full) greetings from Ukraine!
Have ran into issues recently bud! New video should come out tonight!
do i need to change the driveshaft mate?
No mate
Can this be done on an 04 civic with the same swap kit?
Hi mate, 04 is a completely different car so I wouldn't know... sorry
How many hours?
It took me about a month in total, ut I did run into weird problems such as the T bracket from the CVT was different, my S20 some how ran B series drive shafts, the gearbox mount is also different.
did you not need to swap ecu from a manual car?
No mate, still running the auto ecu
@@forcarssakeso auto ecu works fine?
@JakeKwon_01 yes it's working just fine on my car
did you have too swap your ecu?
No I kept the auto ecu. In Australia we also have immobiliser so a change of ecu will be quite a lot more work
@@forcarssakeur location mate in australia
@JakeKwon_01 yeah mate, I'm in Australia Melbourne
What about EJ8 same shit right?
Should be the same mate
Music is too loud
Thanks for the feedback mate, I'll keep it in mind on the next one
