I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,
Mike is the Bob Ross of Mushrooms
Totally.
Mike has a perfect mycology voice for UA-cam. I wonder if it was him or a friend who decided to start the channel...?
THIS!
For sure hes awesome one of the best
i can agree on that. the guy even has an afro.
Considering you're running such a successful amd lucrative business, that fact that you're even just telling us all this knowledge and showing us step by step how you do what you do, it's really something. Goes to show that this is more than just a business but your craft. Really cool stuff
Not just a craft, a passion. A mission.
Also goes to show that just because you have the knowledge doesn't mean you can build what this guy has.. It looks like so much hard work
no bs
Pretty typical for the mycology community. Seems like most everyone I see that grows mushrooms is a super good, down to earth person
It's part of the business model. They also sell equipment. Very grateful for the information.
if u/someone actually listens to this whole video...it tells u everything u need to know about growing most mushrooms on a amateur level. thank u so much bro
I concur.
What peaked my interest is the title said growing mushrooms in the south west...I live in Phoenix AZ zone 9 B....and am curious if I could grow mushrooms...the kind you'd put in spaghetti....button caps I think they're called, anyways yeah
My future
@@davidschmidt270 you can grow mushrooms anywhere! Controlling the environment is key
Yes, it's amazing! This is real content.
love from india 🙏☺️,
I'm 19 years old
B.Sc.Agriculture student (Bachelor student of Horticulture) 2nd year,
i am a big fan of mushroom cultivation
and
i also studying for it,

You are my Guru sir!
i also motivated from your jurny that you said us.
thank you sir.☺️
Good luck with your mushroom growing! 🍄🙏😊
Glad I’m not the only one that holds their breath when doing sterile work
why not wear a mask tho?
@@mimosveta It would be better to do both. Masks do not shield all bacteria, and the air from exhalation can push other spores in the air into your spawn or substrate. Never can be too-safe when it comes to cultivation!
@@mimosveta because you really don't need to. And honestly you don't even need gloves with alcohol and good technique.
@@pollopollo3531 yeah Aseptic technique/ANTT cuts down on a lot of waste and is just as effective
You're a total legend for posting all of these videos. Keep up the great work!
Would love to work there
Yeah, good work to get serious about.
start in your closet in a Rubbermaid tote, or one of them 5 gallon buckets from the hardware store. then scale up.
@@DH-rs6cq he has a few but not many
You rock man, keep them coming!
After watching your videos; I am legitimately considering my own growing business. I love the life cycle of mushrooms and am captivated by how they can grow from a block of substrate. Seeing it done on a larger scale is inspiring.
Most of this stuff I already know, but I still watch for the passion and chill vibes of this guy, it's so relaxing.

my fav mushroom farm channel
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge lots of love from Bonnie Scotland 🏴
Thank you 🙏🏾
Always here for your new content! Such a chill leaning environment. Future content request: Lab Reports (spreadsheets galore). Basically, what all do you track and what have you found to be best practices thus far in your lab as far as how often certain things are tracked like temp, humidity, types of inoculation, substate testing, etc. I know this is probably the most boring subject but one of the most important in running any kind of lab. Thanks in advance should you decide to gift us with this knowledge.
I'm way late but this is a great idea!
Amazing set up you have I'm very impressed
I’ve started my own business, but have been struggling with waste due to contamination in my grain bags. This video is just what I needed, I will be implementing some of these tips, and 🤞 for better results! Thank you so much

Thank you very much.
Thanks Mike! You are the bomb!
Keep the videos coming !!!!
Would love deep dive vids on individual steps. Great info in your vids as is!
Yes! Second this!!
Loving your videos. Looking to getting into mushroom production. Locally we don’t have any farms I think this could be fun and be a good business.
Stretching the mycelium is gahdamn genius. Thanks for that tip
As a farmer of sweet potatoes, this is the cleanest type of farming I've ever seen.
You really do know how to make a Friday evening better. Great stuff.

Great to learn about this...Great information..
I don’t know why I find this so fascinating.
I would love to work on a Mushroom farm like that I love mushrooms love your videos
Awsome lessons in growing mushrooms very low technical explanation good delivery easy to understand a great learning experience.
Really great video and amazing channel, so glad I found you.
Quick question, I have one of these bags with millet that wasnt used for a period of time and has dried more than I would like for use.
It has an inoculation injection point.
My question is could I use a sterile syringe and inject some demineralised/distilled water into the bag followed by my liquid culture to make sure it has the moisture it needs to inoculate the bag?
Finally your back. Just make more at work videos. You kill it just talking about your passion.
Great video as always 👍
He just makes t look so easy!!!What a beautiful set-up Doing it al himself!!Looks like he's making alot of $ in a small space the future of urban agriculture!!
Excellent video 👍🏼👍🏼
and they say the human brain cannot truly multi task…
what a pro… he’s a delight to watch.
Any chance you can hook us up with the supplements you added to the grain for the Cordyceps, I’m finding it hard to find a good mixer to hydrate and supplement my grain for Cordyceps.
Been looking for a grain to grain spawn bag inoculation video, thanks 🙏🏼
Look him up 👆
A new video right on! Hi :)
This makes me smile so much. Idek why hahaha. Are you hiring staff right now? With all respect and my most honest, I have never seen anyone, at this so young, so passionate, professional (I mean know 200% of the time exactly what they are actually doing), and most of all happy about what u do for a living. After I graduate (Biochemistry), I never get to use my lab skill anywhere (I'm now working in a canned food company). I have always wanted to do farming/gardening, grow trees, grow my own food but also selling them (u know working but feel just like daily routine). I wish I could work somewhere like this, since I like lab work (I still miss them so much) and get to see things grow day by day. What you do is sooo cool! This is my dream job. Hope that one day I might get to this point (as rn I only grow cactus 😄)
Very impressive communication of the process…. I feel like you could have been a professor or academic at some point in your life…. Thanks so much for explaining the process!
Love this guy
Hei mike love your content so far, i just have question with the bag you use. What if i sealed the plastic bag without any of filter patch is that kinda work with myselium?
I send all the newbies here for the tek talk that applies to most mycology yes even the ones you thinking of.
I once got scammed by a guy using your photos…. Glad to see the real person.
Nice Job..
Do U Leave them in the bags until u pick... or do u transfer to another bag or tub after the mycelium grows?
This is masterclass.
What is the xtra nutrition used in the hydrated grain 5:25
Thanks for your work dude! Could you show how you get the spores and also the process to create the culture with them in the petry dishes? im struggling with that part.
If you have a mushroom you want to get spores from, wet the cap with a small paintbrush and water, remove the stem and place the cap on a piece of paper or some foil that you have wiped down with rubbing alcohol.
Cover with a plastic tub and wait 2 to 24 hours, now you'll have more spores than you'll ever need
Thanks
Awesome! Are you the only one doing this or do you have others working for you doing this as their full time job? I’m trying to figure out if this is something I can get going here in Milwaukee Wi. Would my first step be is going to restaurants asking if they would buy gourmet mushrooms and then local food shops? How did you get started? Thanks!
What a KING💚💛❤️🙏🏼
Hey Mike, love your videos so much. When you say you have a 6lb grain spawn bag, does that mean dry weight of the grain that went in the bag or 6lbs a
after the grains are soaked?
after soaking
My biggest dream is to visit the mans farm! My brother and I are trying to create a little mushroom project in Africa and we’ve been using these videos to learn. Slowly but surely we will get there. Thanks for all brother you truly inspire a lot of people like us
This is a laboratory environment. May not be the best for what you might be trying to do in Africa.
The book Organic Mushroom Farming and Mycoremediation by Tradd Cotter has some great info you can use (specifically the chapter on off grid cultivation).
The author has done exactly what you are wanting to do.
I have been using a long metal spoon to separate the grains in the jar. Never had a problem.
Ohhhhh yeah shroomms 4 ever❤❤❤❤❤❤
This video is really interesting. I’m a new and very amateur mycologist. I’ve just started working with agar and sterilized grain.
Cordycepts was very helpful to me 20+ years ago when I was recovering from Pertussis.
I’ve just recently been putting my agar grown mycelium to sterilized, hydrated popcorn. Not much activity yet.
These jars of popcorn had no activity after 4 weeks from inoculation with a spore syringe, so I just tried inoculating some of them with mycelium from agar.
I’m wondering if my popcorn isn’t hydrated enough. But, I’m going to wait a week or so to see what happens.
And, I just got 25 pounds of organic rye berries to work with. Impossible to find locally, but easy on the internets.
Mostly just using mason jars so far.
Your sterile technique was really interesting.
I’m currently using oven tech for my sterile environment (thanks, Philly Golden Teacher).
But considering building a low cost laminar flow hood (thanks to Willy Myco) .
I’ve currently got a bunch of agar dishes going, with several different spores. And I’ve got some grain spawn going, from a couple of different cultures. And a couple of tubs colonizing.
I’m just trying several different things, to see what works for me.
This video has given me several new ideas. So thanks.😊
Oh, and I’ve had a couple of successful flushes so far. So, this has been a really interesting and rewarding experiment so far.
Thank you for fighting the good fight My friend
