    Something to think about on the access under the bash plate. Could you mount it so that removal of the front mounting bolts allows the plate to pivot down from the rear exposing the oil drain and filter. Then just raise it back up and install the forward holding bolts. I like sturdy without holes. Thin slits are ok properly positioned. All of our heavy equipment have integral belly pans which provide both protection and structural rigidity. Also they are a trap for leaves and sticks which provide even more fuel if you have a fluid leak and it gets on a turbo. You have a fire which you very well may not be able to put out. We had some fatals on big trucks because of this scenario. Dry chemical fire extinguishers failed and the sliding escapeway ladder was bent so the operator couldn't climb down 6 meters and had to cross back through the fire. Fatal burns. We call this confluence of factors. Not on a motorcycle but truly loss of machine. Good vid. I just got some new powercoat done at a local professional race shop. Man is it ever slick and harder than nails. Ride safe and still have fun.

    It’s an amazing full frame that is holding in it a V-Twin that makes that an epic design of an adventure bike that I wish Honda could bring back that design as an Africa Twin or Transalp to present date with some advanced technology and overall gear ratio gearbox like the 2023-2024 Transalp has, and I would be in line to purchase that type of adventure bike! And bring back that V-Twin in a full frame and add some extra ponies and torque should not be hard to do in a modern V-Twin

    I chose the nylon AXP bash plate for my T7, I don’t do a ton of off road but so far has taken a few big rock hits and it has held up pretty good. I am one of the people that Adam jokes about with the pannier racks and bags so I figured I could cut some weight with the Nylon bash guard and just stick Yamaha engine guards. So far so good!

    On my wr450 it came with a plastic bashplate. 3 point attachment and obviously the engine is surrounded by the frame. Its quite thick and has no venting holes in it. Since its plastic it also doesnt have any edges to get caught up, its just a smooth curve, and you almost never hear sticks and rocks flicking up and hitting it. Ive bottomed the bike out on a few rocks and had the bike sitting on a handful of logs getting rocked back and forth, and so far the plate has held up well for 90 hours.

  • @ravennexusmh

    shot peening is a good method of stress relief and strengthens the metal. so that frame will likely be better at it's job now.

    If you want to protect the new paint from rock blasting, you can glue some rubber on to bash plate. Maybe as low as 2mm rubber would do it? Rubber is used as a protection for sand blasting so I think it would work fine.

    Absolutely awesome video mate those look brill bet they will sell like hotcakes.
    I agree with max protection, an I think that's important for us newbies as well more likely to make a mistake an case the motor on a rock on a bad line selection you want the best protection not a light one which is why I went for metal an not plastic after seeing a few examples online where the plastic guards had flexed smacked a rock cracked the sump then flexed back guards were OK but engine wasn't on a river crossing over in America.
    I know alot go on about the quietness of plastic an quietness but I'd rather hear the big smack an be able to pull up n check it over.
    Last thing you want is any doubt so metal for me every time like you say, equivalent of your helmet for your bike. 5 quid head buy a 5 quid helmet is the saying over here, my old man's bro who used to race Nortons always drilled into me best saftey gear you can hence investing an wearing an Arai or Shoei.
    Loving the look of that enclosed design you'e done very smart an well thought out an sleek but robust.
    I wound up buying a Camel euro 4 version inspired by the darkhorse 1.0 a few days back for our 2020 :) looking forward to getting it fitted when it turns up.
    Iron horse progress is looking brill.

    Adam thanks so much for again sharing your wisdom and processes in your builds. I do have one question about the new Bash plate on the T7WR, it looks solid on the bottom, are you concerned about water getting in there and just sitting for long periods? I didn't see any drain holes.

    It's a pro not con that modern adventure bikes deal with skid/bash plates the way they do. Exactly as you point out with the T700, you can buy a bolt on and customize it as you see fit, whereas a quarter of the people who buy em will never even take them on offroad adventures.

    • @hydrogen.jukebox
      @hydrogen.jukebox 2 місяці тому +1

      I think his problem was more the bash plates mounting to the engine case because of the frame design; ADV bikes now use the engine as a stressed member in the frame, where as a true dirt bike will have the frame cradle the engine, making a skid plate an easy mount. The T7 actually amends this with the bolt-on frame rails, but I’m not sure if that’s a thing for other adventure bikes.
      At least in the case of my CB500X, my only options were skid plates that bolted on the engine, or a larger part that was kind of a combination bolt-on frame and skid plate.
