The new Inspiron 16 with i5-1240 comes with dual channel memory option(2x 8GB 3200 MHz DDR4) as well as option of Iris graphics processor. Its a recent launch. Thank you very much for an excellent review.
Thank you for the very detailed review, it helps me to pick this one up. As a casual computer user who just want a bigger screen to see more, my only wish if they can offer a darker color but the light color will last longer by ages. Once again, Great and Detailed review, really really helpful.
Great review! Could barely find any reviews on this laptop so this was really helpful! I believe the 5625 improved on some of your cons though. The 5625 model I'm looking at made the upgrade to HDMI 2.0 and there are models with a brighter 300-nit, 100% sRGB display.
Checked the specs on the 5625 and its HDMI 1.4 (same as the 5425 I reviewed here: ua-cam.com/video/23pQ8x2R6oA/v-deo.html). You can get HDMI 2.0 output with an adapter on the USB-C port though. Other screens look to be available in other regions on both models, but not here in the UK.
What I noticed with these Dell WVA panels is that it has less ghosting compared to the IPS panels of laptops in the similar price range albiet lower brightness and color gamut. I had a thinkpad E14 and although it was a 300 nit 100% sRGB panel, the ghosting issue was bad there was a bit of light bleeding as well. So overall "viewing experience" is better on the Dell. The new HPs have 400 nit 100% sRGB IPS panel which I havn't gotten to see yet!
Thank you sooooo much for this review! I love the way this doesn't have a number pad!!! I love a centered keyboard. I just hope the touchpad isn't dodgy, like it was on the Inspiron 16 7610.
Just bought one of these, not a bad laptop but was much improved by upgrading the 8GB RAM to a 32GB GSkill and the 512gb hard drive to a samsung 980 EVO
I'm waiting for the intel 12th gen 5000 series Dell laptop in India. This one seems pretty good for my requirements. Thanks for the detailed review. Update: I bought an Inspiron 16 5625 with Ryzen 5000 series and it works perfectly!
@@suhasrao4324 I'm a Physics student but not a gamer; so I can only speak for my normal day to day activities. Inspiron 16 performs smoothly for my daily needs like online classes, moderate programming and simulations, work in the Office app, browsing and streaming high resolution contents. I haven't seen any glitches or prominent heating issues during these tasks. The screen(with WVA and 1900×1200 resolution) is better than the hp or Lenovo laptop in this price range for such a big screen. Though it has only 250 nits, it's decent in the outdoor light. Ryzen 5625u works more efficiently than the 12th gen i5 processor, so usually I get 4-5 hours of battery life in medium brightness. The best physical features of this laptop are the fast fingerprint scanner, the speakers(it's too good) and not a bulky structure for 16 inch laptop. Also Dell support assist regularly suggests me for the required software and driver updates. For my requirements it's the perfect laptop. @@BrueComputing It is so nice to see an everyday laptop being reviewed which one might actually purchase. So many reviewers focus on (very) high end machines which are over specified for most people.

Thanks for this helpful review. Fan works quiet or loud? Also I read some problems about touchpad on this laptop. Did you have any problems with touchpad or any other problems after 1 year of usage?
What drawback in viewing media? You do not lose anything comparing with 15.6 16:9 screen. Instead of looking at thick bezel, you just look at black bars when seeing a movie. That does not make any difference in terms of viewing area. If anything, you get benefits of larger viewing area when viewing vertically phone recorded videos!
Going from a 15.6" 16:9 to a 16" 16:10 gives you basically the same width, so you're right the 'size' for 16:9 content remains the same. Its a bigger issue on the 14" models where because the diagonal is the same the 16:10 screen is narrower so the viewable area is reduced for 16:9 content. Compared to the 5510 though the 5620 is both larger (additional depth) and heavier (by over 10%), so if primarily for media consumption its not really a benefit. That said, I really like them. But for some users they'll be a negative.
A new subscriber here. Love how you explain things. I actually called Dell and one of their reps recommended this one. After having seen your review, is there a similar laptop (doesn't necessarily have to be a Dell) that would compensate for the things that you didn't like about this particular mode. This would be my first laptop, and I definitely want something with great speakers, great display, etc. This will be a general use laptop (no gaming), but It will be used to watch a lot of soccer--think World Cup 2022--and listening to music with good bass. Hoping to get a good deal on Prime Day. Please help. Thank you!
great review, only one i found on youtube clearly showing the desktop of inspiron 16in screen. can you do test on backlight bleed for your coming video?
Thanks for the review. Currently Dell are doing this at £669 on their website, however I note it has a smaller SSD at 256 GB. I just bought a Lenovo 11th gen i7 for £499 from Currys (but haven't opened it yet). Do you think this 12th gen i5 outperforms it? I find benchmarking results confusing online and I'm thinking of taking the Lenovo back unopened before my 14 days return period is up. Many thanks, and happy holidays this week!
The Dell may have slightly better performance in CPU tasks, but the 11th gen i7 is probably quicker in terms of graphics. If gaming the Ryzen 5 based APUs are worth considering, see my comparison video here: ua-cam.com/video/-IdrXfoGBik/v-deo.html The Lenovo at £500 sounds a bargain though.
@@BrueComputing Thanks James, I checked out your video and what a coincidence! At practically the same price as the 12th Gen i5 ("Inspiron 16 5620"), Dell have a Ryzen 5 5625U ("Vostro 3525"). I am trying to decide between the new Dell Inspiron 16 5620 with a 12th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-1260P (18MB Cache, up to 4.7 GHz, 12 cores), the Inspiron 15 3000 3511 11 Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 (12 MB cache, 4 cores, 8 threads, up to 4.70 GHz Turbo) and the Inspiron 14 5000 5425 AMD Ryzen™ 7 5825U 8-core/16-thread Processor with Radeon™ Graphics. All have 16 gb ram and 512 ssd but I am not sure which is better any help will be appreciated!
This video may help you decide: ua-cam.com/video/-IdrXfoGBik/v-deo.html Personally I'd take the Inspiron 14 5425 (or 5625 if you want the 16" display) wit hthe Ryzen 7 5825U.
Kasun, saying it has 12 cores isn't the full picture - the i7-1260P has 4 Performance cores and 8 Efficiency cores, with a total of 16 threads (the efficiency cores don't support SMT/Hyper-threading). In many cases the 8 x Zen 3 cores of the 5825U can prove faster, and AMD have the lead on graphics still.
Not sure myself, I'm in the UK and was able to order it early April but took a couple weeks to be delivered. I'd seriously consider the AMD based versions as well however.
@@janmarkowicz4633 ahh that sucks, maybe they are staggering the launch to clear old stock. Like I say, 5425/5625 are good, I generally prefer Barcelo to Alder Lake-U
@@BrueComputing I agree, older Dell models are still available here in high quantity... I am stuck to Intel processor because I need nVidia for some reason :-). In fact, I would prefer business laptop. Especially at the beginning I looked at Vostro 5620 (very similar laptop but without touch screen, non-convertible), but today I realised that Inspiron 5620 with Windows 11 Pro is considered as home-business laptop by Dell; moreover the touch screen with sylus support, and UHD+ screen if nVidia is included, really tempts me to 'hunt' for this Inspiron.
Skip the numpad and do not have the number display same Asus Zenbook in touchpad. Delta E is alway > 6%. The brightness is alway from 250-300 nit and also no IPS 90-120Hz. Default warranty is always one year. Ok good, let's choose Asus and Lenovo instead.
hi, i bought this i5 1240p nvidia model and i am having trackpad issues , it's not working properly, bottom part is unresponsive it's been 6 days since i bought it, can you help to solve this or has anyone faced this problem in this model?
my track pad is cheap and has a loud click... I dont like it. I suspect its not great quality... mine does however work.. just seems sloppy during right click methods. always seems to re-adjust itself to click lower than my initial selection.
Color on the display looks really mediocre and outdated. Plastic bezels and anti flare give an older model look. Could’ve did way better with this model
I was going to get one of these until I seen that the Dell cheapskates got rid of the number pad in the guise of a centered keyboard. It's only to save them money and fantasize that they're Apple. Also, only 250 nits.
Not really sure what's all that proprietary in these laptops? They are using SO-DIMMs and M.2 SSDs where as many are switching to soldering them to the mainboard.

Does this have a lower color range compared to the plus version cause that would be a deal breaker for me.
The current 16 Plus model is 100% sRGB colour gamut and 300nits brightness. This (as tested) is 45% NTSC and 250nits.
@@BrueComputing what does that translate to in SRGB?
@@BrueComputing so I just googled, 45% NTSC is 60% SRGB, is there any laptop at this price range with a better screen?
@@jonathanng138 Translating NTSC to sRGB doesn't always quite work as I understand it, as they don't fully overlap.
Hello Sir..
Can you please reply me..? Is this laptop have fingerprint sensor sir...?
Yes, the model I tested had a fingerprint sensor.
@@BrueComputing thank you so much Sir 😊👍🏻
is it come with ms office life time addition?
You can buy it with Office 2021, but as standard it isn't included (at least here in the UK).
Can we extend from 512gb SSD to 1TB SSD??
RAM and SSD guide here: ua-cam.com/video/iGxaPn9qedI/v-deo.html
Was there any significant fan noise?
Its does increase the fan speed under load.
This video may help you decide: ua-cam.com/video/-IdrXfoGBik/v-deo.html
Personally I'd take the Inspiron 14 5425 (or 5625 if you want the 16" display) wit hthe Ryzen 7 5825U.
Hi! Does anyone know when will this new Inspiron 16 with Alder Lake be available in European countries??
Not sure myself, I'm in the UK and was able to order it early April but took a couple weeks to be delivered. I'd seriously consider the AMD based versions as well however.
@@BrueComputing Greetings from Poland! For now, these newest models with 12th gen Intels are hardly mentioned on Polish Dell sites...
I think you're talking about the Inspiron 16 2-in-1 7620? That's available with the UHD+ display and MX550, the 5620 isn't (at least in the UK).
Hi, Can we install Ubuntu Linux on this laptop?
Does it have a glass or plastic screen?
Plastic, non-touch screen. The 2-in-1 version, the 7620, has a glass fronted touchscreen.
@@BrueComputing thanks, I might buy it with my money, glass screens are much better than plastic screens imo
@@woofsausage9338 Swings and roundabouts - glass fronted screens suffer more from reflections and glare and are expensive to replace if damaged.
Can I use this laptop for coding, performance
Any body plzz tell me
Thanku...
Should cope fine.
hi, i bought this i5 1240p nvidia model
and i am having trackpad issues , it's not working properly, bottom part is unresponsive it's been 6 days since i bought it,
can you help to solve this or has anyone faced this problem in this model?
Sounds like a warranty issue.
my track pad is cheap and has a loud click... I dont like it. I suspect its not great quality... mine does however work.. just seems sloppy during right click methods. always seems to re-adjust itself to click lower than my initial selection.
Does this 5620 12th gen laptop comes with inbuilt MS Office? Or we need to purchase MS office from outside
Office can be purchased pre-installed from Dell, but isn't included as standard.
@@BrueComputingyour rply is vague, it is pre installed or i need to buy from outside
It isn't included as standard, but you can add it to the system for an additional cost when ordering direct from Dell.
I might go with the amd version of this.
I've got a video comparing them and the i5-1240P here: ua-cam.com/video/8bVimSqwFgE/v-deo.html
@@BrueComputing I ended up getting the AMD version with the 5825U, 16GB of ram and 1TB SSD. Was on sale for $699!
does this recharge with USB Type C? like the android phone ones?
You can charge it over USB-C with a USB-PD compatible charger.
@@BrueComputingoh so it's not like normal phone charger can charge it.. is USB PD bigger than normal phone charging cables?
I hate laptops with numpads so i thinking about buying this laptop beacause i need a new laptop.
Can I upgrade ssd and ram memory?
Yes, guide here: ua-cam.com/video/iGxaPn9qedI/v-deo.html
@@BrueComputing thanks boss!
have this backligh to keypad ?
Yes, the keyboard is backlit.
Color on the display looks really mediocre and outdated. Plastic bezels and anti flare give an older model look. Could’ve did way better with this model
I love macbook alike windows laptop
Does have that kind of look.
Great review. Did you notice any excessive heat heat or loud fan noise. Thank You..
Does this laptop have extra ram slot?
Yes, I have an upgrade guide here: ua-cam.com/video/iGxaPn9qedI/v-deo.html
I was going to get one of these until I seen that the Dell cheapskates got rid of the number pad in the guise of a centered keyboard. It's only to save them money and fantasize that they're Apple. Also, only 250 nits.
Seems to be a change people either love or hate - I don't mind it (I don't use the numpad) but I can see why it would be a showstopper for some.
Dell sucks uses propritery tech also a failing company in global market
Not really sure what's all that proprietary in these laptops? They are using SO-DIMMs and M.2 SSDs where as many are switching to soldering them to the mainboard.
