HI THERE! With the influx of questions in the comment section, I’m considering doing a Q+A all about interior design. If this is something of interest, please feel free to DM me @kelseyomeis on instagram OR write your question in the comments below! :)
Whyyyy did you LITERALLY just describe me and my reasoning for wanting to be an interior designer! I literally play/played sims for HOURS simply building homes 😭
I keep on playing bloxburg, I’m good at decorating in the game but not making a shape of the house, and in irl I am a big fan of hobby lobby and could go there every day.
Hahaha me too, in my teens I’d be up until dawn playing sims, until my parents would sent me to bed. I don’t know how it never came to my mind that interior design was what interested me... after 10 years of studying and working in communications and marketing, now I’m deciding if going into interior Design and this video helped me a lot ❤️
I've never felt so seen in my life, literally just shouted "me too!". I'm literally enrolling onto a degree program now, thank you for the video motivation 🥰
Validating af. Creative, ocd, good at math, just built the houses in Sims- I'm changing careers at 37 and starting courses in 2 wks! Thx for a real take
This was so good! I am a sophomore in college and I am studying to be an interior designer. This year is the hardest year for the program and I have been hitting a wall and have not been able to see a future with it. This video helped me better understand the process and what its like as a designer and what to look for in the coming years. So thank you for this video!!
Amazing!!! I’m so happy I could have helped even a little. Sophmore year is DEFINITELY the hardest but if u can survive that it only gets more fun and interesting. Eventually you’ll be working on projects you choose and are excited about 💕 good luck
I totally dropped out of interior design in year two and I regret it. Might go back to school for it or try and keep at it without the degree. We shall see
the fact that you can start working at the showrooms isn’t really obvious but that’s actually a demo version kinda, and i am trying to follow this path right now
I go to UNT Dallas and was enrolled as a Sociology Major and Psychology Minor; I realized this semester that I DO NOT WANT TO BE A SOCIAL WORKER! I like to help people and talk to them, but that comes from a desire to SOLVE PROBLEMS! I was thinking about which degree do I want to switch to, and I took it back to my childhood. . What did I always do when I was younger? Build legos, paint, draw, make bows and arrows, play computer games such as Age Of Empires and THE SIMS! I just realized, no, I just got confirmation that I need to be an INTERIOR DESIGNER! I always was extremely fascinated with architecture and designing! THANK YOU FOR BRINGING UP THE SIMS! I swear that was all I needed to hear! Interior Design, here I come🤲🏾 Also, I wish you all unlimited success and happiness🤲🏾
I loved this video!! Super informative and motivating! I’m currently in college for my BA in Psychology with a Minor AA in Multimedia Graphic Design. However after working in the graphic design field. I’ve realized this isn’t my cup of tea but architectural interior design has been a past love of mine of which I’m now trying to pursue. I love your persona, I am very much there with you. Thank you for giving us an inside perspective 🥂
Love how genuine you are, both in your general expressiveness and your willingness to share details of your life such as your partygoing past or starting salary. The editing at the end was also hilarious, really shows humility to make fun of yourself like that. People like you are very well-suited for content creation, knowing how to balance information and entertainment quite seamlessly.
I did not find this video, this video FOUND me!!! Thank you so much for sharing Kelsey. I am in my 3rd year Interior Design major now. Can you share more about your experience with studying Master degree? Is there a big difference between Bachelor and Master degree in this field, talking about job opportunity and salary? My boss from a firm that I interned at, he highly recommended me to get a Master degree. I'm looking forward to your future videos!!!
by witching this video you literally SOLVED MY LIFE ! And I just want to say that THANK YOU SO MUCH for this and I love you're energy!!! from now from today I will begin my journey in interior designing (no idea how i am gonna do that but i guess look for universities) and when I sucseed in my career it will all be because of you!!! you are amazing !!
Your message made my day, sending my love across the internet!! I no longer post to this channel, but check out my @klsy.design channel. It’s all interior design content. Hope you find it helpful 🥰 good luck!
I pumped my fist with a smile on my face several times while you explained your creative childhood journey, even down to your mom bringing up interior design! Thank you so much for this video, I’m 2 years into my degree at AAU and I was struggling to find information on internships and entry-level jobs. I’ll be transferring to SCAD this summer and this video has helped me feel a lot more confident in my future!
I'm only 16 but really passionate about joining this industry, I'm not sure what I will take whether it's through a school or jumping right in. Though these videos are really helping me decide on my route.
I am currently looking into artistic careers for myself and have found that interior design is the thing I do most consistently without getting burnt out, hearing about all the school stuff for it REALLY scared me at first, but hearing about the other methods made it seem doable. I cannot thnk you enough for your explanation.
Watching this while playing sims 👀👀👀 sims made me want to get into interior design and now I’m looking into videos on it to see what it’s really about and I think it’d be great for me as I am a strategic and artistic type person.
@@karlaceciliafortuna glad you like them!! I no longer post on this account, but I have an account that is 100% interior design content @klsy.design check it out for more! :)
thank you so much for this video! I just graduated college with a bachelors degree in criminal justice but I never had time to do internships while in college because I was a full-time student and also worked full-time. Once I graduated and started making time to build experience, I realized Forensics isn’t for me. However, I discovered interior design through my interests and have a deep passion for it. I’m only 23 so I know I’m so young but I’m in between going back to school to an accredited four year interior design university or doing an interior design program at a community college in my city.
Honestly...I liiiiiive. You have such a fun personality. You got a subscribe from me (hopefully, a future dual architecture/interior design student) with no hesitation!
I’m only a freshmen in highschool but wow I will keep this in mind I’ve always liked designing stuff and playing sims and home design games but this helped me out a lot I didn’t know anything thank you!!
I am a VM Stylist in homewares/lifestyle department store and I love my job as a Stylist but I feel like I need to study Interior Design just to challenge myself more and pretty much a level up in my career. Great video! I'll definitely enrol for a part-time course!
This video was one of the best interior design videos I found on UA-cam. Your personality is greattt! I haven’t fully watched a UA-cam video and laughed in a whileee😭
Oh. My. God. I literally cried while watching this!!! I’m 27, turning 28 this year, and I’m completely restarting my career. I’ve been struggling with what to do, and you literally described my entire life thus far. Artistic and very passionate as a child. OCD, but only about certain things. ADHD (have you considered getting tested to see if you have ADHD? I was diagnosed this year, and I cannot tell you how much better my life is because I now know why my brain works the way it does. Soooo helpful. Literally changed my life. I encourage all females to be tested because it affects females differently than males.) anyways. This was helpful. Lol. Thank you for sharing!
@@autumnhamm9381 LOL tmi but i have actually been thinking about getting tested 😂 thank you for confirming my suspicions. Good luck, so glad i could help in any way possible! 🥰
I have never been a good is easier for me to have people who do this every day do is an excellent service for interior have never disappointed in providing functional and cozy homes.
@@KelseyOmeis I am also looking into doing interior design. Do you know if it's possible to get a job with a diploma vs a degree? I have a bachelors degree in Secondary Art ed. But I don't want to have to get a second Bachelors if I can avoid it!
GIRLLLLLLLL you said it grades don't matter (unless you heavily rely on those academic scholarships) BUT your portfolio matters and time is the only way you're going to succeed.... and sometimes......you just wish you could freez cause 24 hours in a day just wasn't enough.... I will also never forget my professor tearing at one of my study models after working on it all night........ the trauma.
It totally gave me the mindset at of "done is better than perfect" because I am SUCH a perfectionist. But the reality was that there really just was not enough hours in the day sometimes lol
I love this video. I really would like to study interior design, but my art skills aren't that good. But I love planning and designing though, so that's why I'm interested:)
@@KelseyOmeis Thank u so much for ur response 🥰. I'm definitely going to study interior design and I'll probably learn some drawing skills during this time:)
I’m so glad I found your video! You described my childhood too. I was in art classes growing up and loved it!! And I was such a home body just on Sims ALLLL day and night. I still do here and there but not nearly as much as before. Thank you for the great video! So helpful 😊💖
Literally Sims til I die. My full time job and adult responsibilities are the only thing keeping me from still playing everyday lmao. Thanks for stopping by 🥰
@@KelseyOmeis I went to a community college and into the office life right after high school but now I’m stuck and I’ve known since I was young that I wanted to be an interior designer/decorator. I’m so ready to take it on 5 years later and you just gave me the biggest push! Thank you!
This was great and very helpful. I’m looking into going to school and wasn’t sure what i want to study until now. Thanks to you and the video I watched from Sandy Saintulis things are a lot more clear for me. I’m excited to get started.
I'll finally fly to the US to study at Drexel so this video was so nice to watch! I started watching it just to hear about Interior Design but it's so lovely you went to Drexel :D it's comforting to see you enjoyed studying there for Interior Design. Also, literally SAME, I was obsessed with The Sims too hahaha.
becoming an interior designer would be a dream! haha love that you shared your realistic bedroom! I love your personality lol are making me laugh and i totally relate to the niche thing!!
Wow alot of information!!!! That was the most useful interior design related video I’ve ever watched I want to know what’s the difference between internship and co-op?
So happy I could help! And they are basically the same thing, Co-op just means its a required internship through your school and they are typically paid (but not always!).
People's paths are fascinating. As a wee lad I was obsessed with (and highly skilled at) arranging and decorating interior spaces soooo I told mom I should be an interior designer. Her friend later said mom worried I was gay 😄 Daww. Back when people worried about those things. I too studied architecture for a while but dropped out bc I was just... too.. high bro. I went on to advanced linguistic studies specializing in Contemporary Sarcasm. Go me 🥳
Kelsey, love the idea of learning from each other: I learn a lot from the comments section too. Right now I’m listening to you and what I see is distracting; for instance, why are you standing in a pain neutral light room with nothing on the wall except a black framed mirror, talking about interior design? There is no design going on beside or behind you. Please at least style a coffee table or desk and sit near it so we can see and feel your design sense. It will help. Hope this helps. Your personality comes across as energetic and pleasantly informative and positive. Interested to see where you go from here on your channel.
Hey, I really enjoyed your video. I had some questions for you. I'm probably a little older than you (looking at 30 real soon), and after bouncing around many different low-wage jobs in my 20s, I am considering going back to school. I am trying to pick a career that I am interested in, pays the bills, and fits with my personality. I, too, played the sims, painted/decorated doll houses, and rearranged furniture as a child. I'm analytical, fascinated with design and love playing around with digital art programs. I was considering illustration, or graphic design but love the idea of interior design. If you had to start your degree at 30, would you still do it? If you wanted to work in a different country, how difficult would that be? Is interior design a career that you would recommend to someone who wants to have children? Could you make a video describing what your actual day to day work looks like and the type of hours you work? Thanks for the video, it was very informative. I hope you have success with your channel.
Hey Dani! Don’t stress, I’m right behind ya headin for those 30s (30 FLIRTY & THRIVING). It is literally never too late to start a new career, and it seems like we have very similar skills and interests that makes me believe you would love interior design (creative & analytical. Design is one big art puzzle to solve!). My question to you though would be what kind of career are you looking for? A professional, more corporate career path would require more schooling, which is a huge decision to consider. If you’re looking for a more decoration-based career, it is possible to get started and potentially intern/assist other decorators without any training but that I don’t have much experience with and little to no advice. Regardless, I suggest you do more research and soul-searching before you dive head-first into a new career. Good luck with everything and follow your heart! P.S. I’d like to potentially make a new video surrounding my job in my detail in the near future:) ❤️❤️
Thank you very much for the good humor and the wonderful and understandable communication you made for us🥰🥰. I like architecture as a direction, it is both art and science, a very difficult direction but it makes you a person with a strong character because you constantly face challenges. I like to study architecture but I have a lot of fears and doubts, because in the country where I live the economy is underdeveloped, high unemployment.Great for the work I do, I work hard, I draw and I am creative since childhood but I am very afraid to study architecture. Please give me tactics and tips for architecture. Thank you very much🤍🤍
Thankyou for this video! It was very helpful, funny and informative! I saw it twice bc I was taking notes on all the certifications you mentioned and I must say I have very clear you have a Masters Degree! 😂 I love your sense of humor and the motivation you give!😀
Omg I literally went to Oneonta and at the start of my second year I also had a realization I was kinda wasting my time and money there so then I transferred home and I think I just figured out interior design is the way to go for me. (i cant lie i miss the parties so much tho lol)
we got it beautiful cutie, you have a masters degree)))), seriously that is a really motivating video! Hope they pay you much more right now and you doggy is fine!!
Hi! I’m a college freshman looking at options on whether to transfer schools and switch my major. I applied to many schools for interior design however ended up at my current school in a different program mostly for financial reasons. It’s a great school however they don’t offer interior design, something I believe I am passionate about. I am conflicted on whether I should stay and pursue a different degree and go for a masters in interior design later or switch majors now and pursue a degree that I am more confident in that I will be passionate about. I am looking at doing an interior design internship this summer to see if it’s what I want to study and to see if I can thrive working in the city being that I’ve always shifted away from studying in an urban setting. Do you have any advice on recognizing when you have a passion for interior design? Also do you have any tips on how to financially support myself transferring into an interior design program? I really do love this video. It has helped me so so much!!! Thank you :)
Hey Jessica!! Thanks for your comment, I’ll try my hardest to give the best advice I can. I think it’s 100% a great idea to intern somewhere first to see if you actually like it. Sometimes things seem fun until you actually do it for work, and interior design as a profession is not as it appears on TV. You’ll most likely be in the material library and doing grunt work but everyone starts there and it’s still valuable! As for financial advice, the great thing about this industry is the abundance of jobs. Obviously things change from year to year, but overall it’s very rare to have an unpaid internship. I worked both full time and part time at various companies while in school, PAID, so that does help a lot as well as increase your experience when looking for jobs post-college. Overall, do some more research before taking the leap, but DO NOT “wait until you’re older” to pursue your dream. Youll regret not starting sooner. 🥰 much love!
Kelsey I need to move to America. I'm an architectural interior designer (BA only not masters) but I have over 4 years of experience, and I'm on HALF of what you would be on if you only studied a BA. I'm midlevel so I supervise team members, do architectural drawings, site visits, client presentations, and all that jazz for both commercial and housing. I'm in the UK, but outside of London. Any job opportunities hit me up.
I am so glad I stumbled across your account! I am studying interior architecture in Pittsburgh and I’m a rising senior so I’ve been applying to internships and doing cold calls like crazy :,). I am also going to Spain this summer for my internship so that was so awesome to hear you went there as well. The masters program at my college just got cut so that sucked. You’re very inspirational and helpful I will definitely keep up with your content!🩷
I was wondering if you could elaborate on showroom jobs a little more? In your opinion, would you look for a job with a furniture showroom, a materials showroom, or a more specialized product? And what do you think about big box like IKEA vs smaller/local? Thanks 😊
First off, Ikea is a retail brand that sells to the general public. When i say a showroom job i mean more for luxury or commercial brands specifically for our industry. Things the general public doesn’t have access to such as Steelcase furniture, custom lighting manufacturers, DesignTex fabric. Here, you are representing and selling the brand to designers and architects to specify in their projects. I personally have not done this because I love designing too much, but I know of soooo many people that have switched from the design world to the sales world because it typically makes more money and theres more job flexibility while still being in the industry.
Heyy Kelsey,You are literally sounding like me!!And I can feel you!!!I too was a crafty kid and I too wanted to apply to an architecture but because of workload also architecture won't unleash more of my creative side than Interior design I opted for BS interior design that too in Drexel University!!!Damnn how can this be so similar.I was actually searching for Drexel University student with interior design degree because I'm applying to fall 2023. I was kinda confused is this school right for me because I couldn't find any youtuber🥲But now I'm pretty sure about this..Thankyou💗
So, I've always loved architecture and interior design. At least, for the past 5 years I've been really drawn to it. And this is bc of my love for all things luxury: luxury homes especially. I watch this channel called LPG (Lifestyle Productions Group) on YT almost everyday and have been considering real estate as a career, only bc I mainly love homes and what they look like. I also have an interest in a miniaturist hobby! Anyway, I just turned 31 and am wondering if going back to school for interior design is too late? I did go to college after high school, but dropped out bc I was undecided on a career path. Now I almost feel like this is my calling...but am I too old for it? 🤔
Well first off, you’re never too old to start school or a new career! 31 is so young. BUT interior design school is both a time and financial commitment. So make sure this is a job you would love doing day to day (construction drawings, selecting finished, working in a collaborative office environment). I’d also look at your long and short term financial goals. It takes time the traditional route of working at an architectural firm to progress into a higher paying role, so if school would be a big financial commitment, maybe give it more thought to be sure its worth it!
I literally can relate to every single thing you are saying when people do not understand what we do as designers!! LOL & I almost went to Drexel the same years you did! But I ended up getting my bachelor's/master's from Brenau University instead. Love this video and your personality :)
Hello, I'm Izabela, I'm writing to you from Romania (EUROPE), I started working in this field a year ago, and I'm about to move to the USA, this video helped me get an idea of what I would could do there in this area and what would be the options. Maybe in the future you can show us some courses in the field of interior design that we can follow if we don't choose a university Thanks
Not sure if you will see this, but I am a current junior in high school. I have been looking into interior design and have been educating myself about it, but I am a bit intimidated. If I have zero art skills or background, and can not draw to save my life is that ok? Also, if the school load really that bad? Will I be spending every night til 2 am working on school or will I have some free time? Just curious! It sounds like a great major but it also sounds crazy.
I see you!!! There’s SO much in this comment and not enough words to type it. I will be doing a Q&A about interior design as a career and school and would love to answer it in depth then. Until then, don’t be nervous and follow your heart!❤️
This video was really eye opening, I watched this weeks ago but keep coming back to it. I've been considering switching to interior design but having a hard time finding a program online (I work full-time and can't take on-campus classes). Have you heard of any good schools with a great interior design program online? Thanks for this video, it's clear to me now that it's not an easy process! Lol
Love that you’ve come back!!! TBH, i don’t know of any online programs but i’d be surprised in this post-covid world that more schools don’t now offer it
Hi Kelsey! Your honesty in this video was much needed. I listened to everyone saying that I can't get a job in art but now that I'm in my mid 20's, I finally have the courage to pursue interior design. I'm really tired of school but I want to work in hospitality design which seems to require a design degree. Do you have some advice for someone in my position? Am I going to have to give up all my free time to study?
Ok first of all screw those people. You can make a living doing anything if you love it. There’s a lot to unpack here in your question, but what i will say is do some more soul searching. If you decide that this is really something you want to do, then school or some kind of course may be your best way to getting there. But know that school is a big time and financial commitment. Do your research and follow your heart!

Thanks for this video! So much good information. This gives me hope as a Landscape Architect who wants to move into interior design
I love how it feels like we are having a conversation!! I have a BA in anthropology, but looking to get into interior design diploma now.
Probably because me and my camera have gotten very intimate nowadays... Thanks for watching 😘

I'll finally fly to the US to study at Drexel so this video was so nice to watch! I started watching it just to hear about Interior Design but it's so lovely you went to Drexel :D it's comforting to see you enjoyed studying there for Interior Design. I want to know what’s the difference between internship and co-op?
So happy I could help! And they are basically the same thing, Co-op just means its a required internship through your school and they are typically paid (but not always!).
@@KelseyOmeis oh i got it now thank you so much ☺️
You explaining how you were when you where little sounds so much like me rn and I wanna be an interior designer 😂
I play sims for hours on end making houses I have over 30k save files of houses
I ❤ your video. It was so informative!
Go me 🥳
Paths are not linear!
Thank you for sharing ! I love your humor and the info is useful! I've subscribed!
YAY thank you stephanie 🥰
Thank you very much for the good humor and the wonderful and understandable communication you made for us🥰🥰. I like architecture as a direction, it is both art and science, a very difficult direction but it makes you a person with a strong character because you constantly face challenges. I like to study architecture but I have a lot of fears and doubts, because in the country where I live the economy is underdeveloped, high unemployment.Great for the work I do, I work hard, I draw and I am creative since childhood but I am very afraid to study architecture. Please give me tactics and tips for architecture.

Why are you so underrated 😭😭
my biggest fan!!! haha a million times thank you

You’re killing it!!

I personally have not done this because I love designing too much, but I know of soooo many people that have switched from the design world to the sales world because it typically makes more money and theres more job flexibility while still being in the industry.
love the partying pictures 🤣very inspiring

@@KelseyOmeis thank you for your reply! I will definitely take time to think about it :)

Glad it could help!!

Love that you’ve come back!!! TBH, i don’t know of any online programs but i’d be surprised in this post-covid world that more schools don’t now offer it

thanks for your video . Was really helpful
