Love your type of analysis you use when describing what it’s like to ride a certain bike. I really like comparing one bike to another when describing how something feels/works. That Ducati V4 test ride was so interesting. I’ve watched it a couple of times. I’m shopping for an Italian bike right now. I would love to hear what you think regarding the MV Agusta models. Can’t decide between a 1098S, 2007 F4, 2014 Brutale 1090RR

6:00 yeah i agree with you. inline 4s specially smaller ones like my cb400 are a fucking pain. it revs to 15k and theres fuck all between 1 to 7k and 11 to 15k you always gotta be in the sweet spot

Animal, how is the build quality? How is the attention to detail? When you ride a bike day after day, it's the little things that can make you love it or hate it.

American Flyer I’m going to do a wrap up in part 3 and address the quality. Overall it feels like a mom and pop operation, not a large scale OEM. The KTM 1290 super duke is a vastly superior machine quality wise...every switch and lever is perfect. The Aprilia engine harshness is annoying.

    Great review, as always.
I bought one of these last Summer (black RR, added akra slipon) and have about 2500 miles on it, a couple track days too. Totally agree with your point about the stability - it is flickable enough, and I have thought about upgrading to some forged wheels which I bet would make it livelier in the flick, but I do appreciate the stability, so I haven't bothered yet. The clattery, weird vibration under 2500 rpm is annoying, but I have gotten used to compensating with clutch slip, still it is a downside for sure. The MPG is atrocious, if you are stuck in stop and go traffic in Boston (as I sometimes am), can actually scrape low 20s. Man, when you get it above 3500 or so that linear pull is unreal, and with the planted suspension and great stability is the most confidence inspiring bike I have ever had.
I just came off a Duc Streetfighter 848, which was cool but I could never get comfortable on it - the ergos on this bike are perfect for me (6', 170lbs) . All that said, the power is almost too much for the street, the 848 twin was probably a better commuting motor, although this thing romps all over it for "sporty" riding. Before this I had the SF 848, an old-skool Multistrada and a 748 (yes, I was a Ducati tragic), and they were all great, but I have to say that this thing just seems much more solid and better put together than any of the Ducatis I have had, higher quality plastics and switchgear. This chassis is just amazing. WIth all of that, I am actually going to take a hard look at the RS660 and the Panigale V2 when they come out - I'm in no hurry to get rid of this amazing bike, but I am honestly not sure I am man enough for the power it has, and add the bad MPG, slop down low in the rpms, and mediocre headlights, it is not the perfect bike for me. Tough decision, because the good things on this bike (chassis, linear pull once you get into the revs, looks great (better than the RSV4)) + it is bought and paid for) could easily keep me a TUono owner. Still RS660, pant . . .

Nothing you can do about the MPG but I thought I read that the low rpm issues can be solved with a tune and there are headlight upgrades to HID's available. Maybe these things will turn the bike into a keeper

Funny, I just installed LEDs today, really spruce up the front end look. I’m also getting much more used to the powerband as I ride it more and am loving it. I think part of my earlier issue is that I have always ridden twins before this bike, it’s my first 4 cylinder.

@@dogrange Glad you did the LED's. Next you should try a race map with the PowerCommander V and then autotune it. The fueling tables are horrible especially in the bottom end. Will transform the bike.

I wish you would have done this review on a bike that was broken in some.

The 1290 is extremely good in every dept, iam 10,000 trouble free miles in my 2016 un-corked stage-5 Rottweiler Performance SuperDink R, iam to big to ride a Tuono

goutvols103 in paper I’d take the RSV4. But on an emotional level the Ducati is more fun.

Halogen lights, No fuel gauge. How hard can it be? When you ride everyday stuff like that matters. Ok if you use it twice a month for an hour or two.

Damn, what happened to the other vid?? Suddenly it said removed by user. I'm guessing the Ducati Gestapo got to you, they didn't like the joke about the 5 recalls.
