    Dear Fancy! Please spill some light on the panigale flat or progressive linkage position as well as spring rates. I'm 205lbs and I cracked my brain in trying to understand how to set all up. Thanks in advance!

    • @FancyAnimal
      @FancyAnimal  5 років тому +3

      Short answer...have the bike setup for your weight by a race shop with you on the bike in the flat linkage setting. Longer answer...with the progressive linkage setting the bike's suspension is more compliant for street riding or carrying a passenger. The flat setting is better suited for carving canyons or track riding as the suspension dynamics are more linear in response to road excitation. The most significant change you're going to make on the bike is decreasing your steering rake by jacking the rear a bit. It will make the bike easier to steer. This can be done by increasing the rear spring preload. Take it to a shop, set the rear linkage to flat, sit on the bike, and have them adjust the front and rear ride height / preload. Put it in race mode and go test ride it on your favorite stretch of road. 1199 and 1299 have very different damping coefficient parameters, so I can't give you my settings. The factory settings are a little on the low side, but start there an adjust up. Don't overdamp the bike. Steering damper is 5-7 clicks. I'm 185 / 190 lbs and have no issues with the stock springs. At 205 you should be ok with the stock springs. I have my linkage set to progressive because I do a lot of commuting and want the compliance. Cheers!

    Another good piece, Mr. Animal. 250 HP... It's a wet dream and a nightmare at the same time. I don't think I would want that. Honestly, I'll never be that good. We all think we are hot shot pilots right? And hey, I'm not bad at all! But you have to be really good to get the most from a machine like that. So I'm not sure how useful the bike would actually be. Would you actually track the thing? You would have to be in a position where you could afford to replace it outright for it to make any sense. Don't get me wrong, if one is in that position - have at it, bustah! Fucken Ducatis are rolling art anyway! I love em. I'll never have one but I do have a deep appreciation for them. So thanks again for the piece.

    Just curious.. Is it worth getting the new V2 panigale or just grab a 2019 V4 with all the discounts they are offering? Is there going to be a huge difference in the insurance cost between the v2 and v4?

    • @FancyAnimal
      @FancyAnimal  5 років тому +1

      SuperMingHaHaS it probably varies by state, but the insurance cost will be negligible between a 959 and a 1103cc. Geico has the lowest rates in California. Age, experience, and a rider safety course are the 3 big factors outside the bike type. I pay $50/mo for my bike with full coverage. As for which bike, ride them both. V4 is a handful vs V2 on the street.

    I suppose given the hyperbike criteria laid out at the start of the video, displacement or forced induction is irrelevant. As long as it only weighs twice as much in lbm as peak hp.
    With that said, I suspect a few manufacturers could meet this criteria tomorrow if they wanted. 1200-1300 cc in a current superbike chassis, using seriously oversquare bore/stroke would allow this bike to rev almost as high as a literbike and weigh just a little more. S1200RR-HP4 or RSV4 1300 Factory SE is what I mean.

    I think that the panigale v4r does not come with the akrapovic exhaust. It only had installed dry clutch from the factory. Only the panigale v4 speciale comes included with akrapovic exhaust and rizoma accessories...

    • @FancyAnimal

      All V4 Panigales have the Akra System with upmap as an option through authorized Ducati dealers, including the V4R. The R is designed for that system. The Speciale includes the Akra as standard equipment, however it is installed at the dealer. after removing the regular exhaust system.

    The akra system that brings it to 234 hp isn't homologated with a cat and is not street legal btw.. it's an additional $5,000 IIRC option on top of the V4R price tag. So $50,000 motorcycle that can't keep up on the track with the new BMW S1000RR that costs half that much. If you really want sticker shock look at the maintenance schedule for for the V4R.
    Also GP bikes don't have much more than 250 hp. If you want to try it now you can get an RSV4 with the factory works kit. It has a gas charged pneumatic valvetrain and is guaranteed to put out over 250 to the wheels

    • @FancyAnimal
      @FancyAnimal  5 років тому

      No one is setting lap times with the S1000RR in light of the cracking engine cases, oil starved transmissions, failing brake calipers requiring dealer overhaul kits, recalled leaking oil coolers, and poorly managed production supply chain making 2020 models in time for 2021. Nice try though...wish BMW was doing as well in WSBK.

    • @jamsxr
      @jamsxr 5 років тому

      Fancy Animal yeah, the new BMW launch has gone down like a lead balloon... although Kawasaki have proven you don’t need the best or most powerful road bike to win races. Personally the new Daytona or Pani V2 get are more fun on the road then any of the hyper bikes.

    • @primedirective00
      @primedirective00 5 років тому

      The BMW is a brand new resigned bike. Give it a year or two to work out the kinks. It's a solid platform to start from considering it keeps up with both the Aprilia and V4 1100cc bikes. The variable cam timing is going to be a necessity for manufacturers from here on out.

    • @jamsxr
      @jamsxr 5 років тому

      They still shouldn’t rely on customers as beta testers. Friends of mine with the previous model also had their fair share of issues. Still, looks like a great bike, but that’s the case for all superbikes.

    • @primedirective00
      @primedirective00 5 років тому

      @@jamsxr it's not beta testing at all. It's pushing the limits of manufacturing tolerances and engineering. Maybe BMW cut a little too close to the quik but they are 100% on the leading edge of development. The V4 had to push a 10% displacement increase for basically marketing copy to look competitive on paper because they lost ~3% power due to their counter rotational crank. BMW has better tech in place because they didn't have to cheat on displacement in order to stay competitive on the track. Manufacturers have to play by the rules of WSBK because it helps them sell the most bikes.. and with the WSBK rules in mind, conveniently the V4R just barely comes in below the max price tag at $50,000 to be compliant when the S1000RR isn't anywhere near that expensive. That's what I was talking about. It's pretty hilarious. I'm not a fan of the new BMW but you need to give it to them for pushing the other OEMs so hard.
