I've just had the Google Ads Tag Management Team tell me that I need to put the Google Tag on my website even though I already have Google Tag Manager on the website. I told them that I thought the whole point of GTM was that you only need one tag on the website and everything else would be put into GTM including GA4, and anything else like quote requests. From what you have said, Benjamin, I am correct, but now I wonder why the specialist team told me otherwise?
Thank you for the information. Question, I have set up a Google Ad (May 2023), however, it keeps saying 'my ad can show, however, there is a problem, fix it'. The problem they refer to is, a) I need to add 'Google Tag' & b) 'set up conversion measurement'. My question is, if I do not set up 'Google tag & Conversation Measurement', does it impact my AD being seen by people? I have a Canva website with a link to a Google Form for people to fill out, so not sure how I can set up Tags and conversions. Look forward to your insights. Gary
It won't affect your ad being seen by people but Google won't be able to collect data points to optimize your campaigns for conversions and hence it could lead to a lot of cash burn. Always better to set up conversion tracking properly
Hi Benjamin, appreciate your informative videos, I do use Google Tags and am currently able to track Purchases, Item revenue and Item quantity in the Ecomm dashboard, what do I do if I am not able to track other events namely, Item views, Add to carts etc, and also how to trigger any other useful events? Thanks
Hi Benjamin, I am a little confused. Up till now, I needed one tag for Google Ads conversion tracking and a second one for Google Ads Remarketing. Is this still the case with the Google Tag?
Hi Benjamin, just watched this, and i had some ideas about GTM before watching, im hoping you can help with some sections that are not covered in your video. Is it common practice to have 3rd parties want their Google Tag Manager put on your website? What does it do from a tracking perspective? will they be able to see who signs in and does what in the website? or just traffice (no user details etc) Is it common that when companies want to send traffice to our website and get some commission from those redirects to use Google Tag Manager? Any Risks associated? - if we enable it do we not have access to our own? (i read some people have multiple tags on their website) Thanks, Evan
Can you please make a video for using this along with tracking WooCommerce conversion data and events? the previous one doesn't seem to work properly for me. I get conversions but it doesn't show that in Google Ads + the value so i have no metrics for bidding.
thanks Benjamin! useful as always! Q: if we have gtag it requires the tag across the website and the conversion tag. But if i'm using GTM instead - i only need the conversion tags? am i right? thanks!
It depends on where you want to send data. If you want to send data to GA4 and to Google Ads for conversions, then you'll need to add a GA4 tag and the Google Ads conversion tag.
Your existing Universal Analytics (UA) tag is probably being used to collect data into GA4. Here’s my video covering my recommended migration steps: ua-cam.com/video/Biow-Qkst68/v-deo.html

This was gold! Thank you so much for this clear explanation!
Oh my word… think I will have to watch more of your previous tutorials 😱
Superb video as always!

This is great. What would be a use case for analytics to pull in data from different pages?
What does the code mean which starts with GT-XXXXXXX?

Hi, we already did the migration to GA4 but in my tag appear: UA, why?
