Agreed, the dude's definitely got mad skills but speed/thrash metal does nothing for me. I've always preferred rock/metal with soul, melody and groove as you put it.

2. He was playing an actual song called Degradation of flesh by Nile.
Go take a listen to that before judging. Also watch some of his other videos and see if they are all same.

I was a teen in the 80s when all this really took off and it just never spoke to me. Metallica and Megadeth were about as hard as I'd go. That said, we're all brothers in rock, some like it harder and faster, others slower and groovier! As long as it's got energy and a kick ass guitar solo I'm good! LOL

I've known about David for a good while before I ever heard of El Estepario. He is absolutely unmatched when it comes to double bass and blast beats. Other amazing guys in the realm that come to mind are Derek Roddy, John Longstreth, and Tim Yeung

Crazy to think, at one point in the not too distant past, this was the only way we were ever going to see this dude play…covers and session drumming videos. He was a teacher (might still be) and he didn’t wanna be in a band that played shows and toured. He did session work with the band Cognizance, and they ended up convincing him to be their full time drummer.

They most absolutely are not he didn’t waver one but… to us probably cus it sounds like he’s playing all tensed up but he’s loose like a goose…. Posture and all perfection. He’s got this down, the thing he’s going for which prob ain’t close to our bag at all… well 99 percent of the drumming community haha. Absolutely insane. Smooth like butter man crazy. I’d like to hear the song to hear what else is going on cus it’s insane fast and perfect but it’s just a bunch of 32nds at Mach ten speed to me haha. Flabbergasted really.

Just for context, this is a drum cover of a song from the band Nile. I listened to other covers, he likes a certain style of music, but he covers songs from bands I like, like cannibal corpse, crypytopsy , job for a cowboy, Whitechapel and there's a cover of a Slipknot song, eyeless, I think from memory, and it's raw, full of feel and groove, do remember before bias, that he plays stuff that isn't everyone's cup of tea, it'd be like slagging off John Bonham or Ringo for not being able to play blast beats

check out drummer for Omophagia... best blast beast in the world i think.. this guy is good too but i just love the technique Omophagia drummer uses. he's like moeller blasting. it's so fluid and he makes it look like butter. look up the video Omophagia - "Nothing Social" it's a drum playthrough.

Very good. BUT... speed isn't everything if it frames you as a one-dimensional player (which I don't think this guy is). His demonstration of independence is remarkable. Both right-side to left-side and upper vs. lower limbs. The dynamics of splitting speed between lower and upper limbs is as good as it gets. I hope he makes another video demonstrating more subtle approaches to playing and forming grooves. Let the drums do the talking!!
