I've named one of my dogs Laika in honor of this beautiful girl. It always hurts me, the cruelty of these people. As all that is done to animals in the name of "science".

The fact that they never even intended to retrieve her is so gross to me. Not only did they put her in a terrifying situation as an animal that can’t understand it at all, but they always meant for her to die there.
Heat shields weren’t invented yet from what I heard, so they’d just disintegrate mid-reentry if they ever made it to that point.
Keep in mind Russia was the same people to send a guy into space in a faulty shuttle that resulted in him burning alive on reentree, despite him voicing his concerns about the whole thing before being launched.
There was a voice recording of him during his final moments where he's screaming in pain and cursing the generals who did this to him, his final request was that the people who ordered this to happen were to attend his funeral, and his coffin would be opened casket.
There's a picture of it, his body doesn't even look human, he looks like a chunk of charcoal someone put in a coffin, and two high ranking officials are standing in front of his opened coffin looking at him.

Life is much more complicated. To train an astronaut, they must first be a soldier, then an airman. The air force is a national asset, it takes many years to train an airman. Not only that, they also have to train before going to space that usually take 1-5 years.
If an astronaut dies, it is not only a great loss to the state in terms of time, money, people but also to the astronaut's family.

Laila died such a horrific death, and all her vitals indicated she was under high stress. She died because her cabin overheated to over 104 degrees, meaning she essentially died from a heat stroke, and/or burned to death. Being boiled from the inside. That poor, poor baby.

This had nothing to do with Nasa. This was the Soviet space programme. Nasa did however do similar tests with mice and even chimps, though I believe most of the chimps were retrieved.
