Fantastic video, on many levels. Some great mods and absolutely hilarious! I've got a blue one and after a similar amount of work, we've reached some sort of truce where it turns out things that are mostly true and parallel, and I don't curse so much.
I get the biggest kick out of these videos on one level and am astounded at what results you get out of Minnie on another. Yes, I have one of the red ones also and I literally have spent more time repairing and modifying the stupid thing than I have actually turning parts at about a 5 to 1 ratio. I just recently finished a massive and lengthy saddle upgrade a la Steve Jordan that was especially challenging because my saddle is "H" shaped like yours so I had to fill in the empty spots as you did for your carriage lock except on both sides. I also just acquired another tail stock with the cam lock upgrade that I now have to set up. As bad as both of ours were, neither comes close to being as bad as The Aussie Shed fellow. As you mentioned, SSTAY AWAY FROM THE BLUE ONES! Cheers Stevodee, looking forward to more episodes.
Thanks Phil for your comments, yeah I've seen one blue Minnie vid where the motor wasn't attached properly & plenty showing poor finish & sloppy components about the compound & cross slides. I'd love to do a factory tour @ seig, be a real eye opener I recon, cheers mate
That was Great fun Stevodee! Loved the mods you did to the banjo and gear train especially the captive nut/windshield washer stay, but forgot to mention filing the banjo parallel for a clean slip fit...major pain. The dye stamp they used on mine must have run 200k parts prior & my banjo had a warp to it. I have to build a printer for mine, next. Thanks Man! ~PJ
Gday michael, ive made 2 vids on leadscrew protection, the one in the mods vid is the first one where i used a spring with sandwich wrap but eventually failed, dial in leadscrew condom 2 which is a better system, cheers
That is nice modification 👍can you make a video on how you made that extension on your cross slide or do you have some spec I'm interested on doing this to my lathe, you have a lot of good ideas thanks
A Great lot of mods. I am interested in the lead screw cover. What is it. I bought the metal lead screw cover that worked well until I bought the 16" lathe bed kit from LMS. Then the cover was too short for the new longer bed. THanks PS I agree the Kit lathe needs a lot of inspiration.
Very inventive and informative. Thank you.
Absolute genius. I wish I lived next door to you.
Nah ya don't mate... I'm mad, I talk to machinery!! Haha cheers

Thanks MisterG, yeah it's nice when they behave... Haha cheers

Hey thanks pj, I tend to not state the obvious if I can help it, when someone does this mod I'll guess they'll figure it out, cheers mate
My Minnie is a green one from back in the 80's. They didn't speak English so pretty quiet. Thanks for sharing the great mods and the good video!
Thanks George, appreciated
lol, "the lathe is the hobby", thanks for the video.
What did you use to make your lead screw cover? I think I will give it a try.

Just Google mini lathe cross slide extension, there's plenty of info & pics how to do it, that's what I did, cheers
