- This video shows' how I modify a Kohler Command oil pump to increase oil flow to better protect a high performance engine.
The Ultrasonic cleaner I use is a Digital Pro+ model MH-040S it is a 6L size.

It's nice to see that these engines have a real oil pump! As a side note, not all motors are engines, and not all engines are motors. This motor happens to be an engine and this engine is also a motor. I'm not sure why there's so much discussion about that subject, it seems pretty simple.

Juilo the mod is increasing the oil pressure to increase the volume of oil to the engine. At the RPMs we run you can run the bearings out of oil really quickly.

Yes Julio, we add shims to the spring to increase the pressure at witch the relief valve opens.

It won't hurt it. Every little bit of friction you can eliminate is just a bit more horsepower.
Why?
The less friction allows the engine to make more horsepower. The engine doesn't have to work so hard.

Yes we run them at anywhere from 8500 to 10,000RPM

Did adding the 2 5mm washers increase the oil pressure. Stock as you mentioned is about 40psi what is it now with the 2 washers in the relief valve. Thanks Darren
Yes it increased it. It ups it to about 60psi on average.
Thx for the video, you use the stock vent on top of engine, or do you add a breather?
It depends on what class, if it's an open rpm class we add vents to the PTO side of the block. We drill and tap the top outer 2 mounting holes above the pto. I do show it in one of the videos on the Plan B tractor and the pro V engine build

Yes it is in the bottom of the engine on the inside.

Question does the dot on the oil pump gear face you or does it go down ? I have one with a broken plastic gear does kohler sell that separately
The dot faces you. I don't know if that gear is available separately but I would guess not because the pump wasn't the last time I checked.
Any idea where one can get a new pump of that style. I broke the cam gears on mine and it says part discontinued
You can check ebay or maybe a small engine shop locally might have an old engine around. Lots of parts for these engine are discontinued.

It's all good. I know watching drops off during the summer. It will all come along and if it dont then it wasn't meant to be.
What kind of oil pump pressure did you end up with after installing just that one washer, did you need to add another?
I never tested that engine but it's usually give about 10 more psi on other engines I've done.

Julio by add shims to the relief valve spring you increase at what pressure it opens up at thus increasing the pressure in the system.
How do I test oil pressure on a 25hp kolher about a year 2000
There is a test port on the top between the heads. There might be a pressure switch in the port. Just remove it and install a mechanical gauge.
Hey Ed, i would like to put an oil pressure sensor and gauge on my Kohler command pro 27.
Where would i put the sensor?

I use a mechanical gauge and I put it the port on top of the engine between the heads. There is a plug there where a pressure sensor would have been from the factory.

Yes the stock set up works fine for 3500 RPM. but when the RPM go up the relief valve opens sooner decreasing the volume so we up the relief valve pressure to increase the volume.
Any idea how to change out the plastic gear on this pump?
Not really, I have never had to change one. I will ask the panel this Sunday on my live stream.

What is your suggestion to get the maximum hp out of a 7hp kohler
Replace it with a 14hp lol. Just kidding the best thing would be to port and polish and mill the head a little. Then bigger valves and a better cam shaft.
I would switch it to a 14 hp kohler but for the kids class they dont allow that hp. They also dont allow port and polishing the head and they have to have stock valves
If its a pure stock class then there isn't a lot you can do other than getting the timing dead on for what the engine likes and getting the fuel dialed in.
I have 25 hp kohler command vtwin I was in the process of converting from vertical to horizontal shaft I made a tube and a screen block for the oil pump but my freind pointed out that there's no way for the oil to be pumped to the heads any ideas I appreciate
I've never converted one like that. I would have to think it would pump it up there the same if it was a vertical or horizontal.
@@PullerbearEd this engine has a oil cooler could you run lines to the valve covers on the return side of that so the oil pump sends to the cooler then the heads thank for your help there's really not much on those type videos and don't want to ruin this motor that I've already removed gov from
I think only Hondas send pressurized oil to the heads, all the other commercial twins have oil mist come up the pushrod tubes from the crankcase or inside the pushrod itself.

Sir I got Kohler pro 24 hp engine I need to find me an oil drain hose to make changing oil easyer would you know what size hose I need to screw in engine
If memory serves me correctly it is 3/8in NPT
