    It's the most simplest to understand tutorial I have seen so far. I knitted up these toes within minutes, without any sock experience or being an super experienced knitter in general. Well done!

    This helped me so much with getting set up and going (I’m used to magic loop, but giving this a go) ...I’m still struggling to get it loose enough to knit into😩, and yarn management is an issue, although I haven’t gotten past the 3rd round without ripping it out and coming back to this video and starting over....try number 4 here I come!! 😂✌🏻💛
    Edit: I didn’t say thank you...so thanks a bunch for taking the time to do this

    Oh my gosh your explanation of how socks are constructed makes so much practical sense!! Thank you 💕💕 I've been thinking about making socks for the first time recently and this video finally gave me the courage and an easy-to-follow pattern to get started--socks have always intimidated me 😭 is it possible to post a photo here? I would love to share my attempt once I've finished 😊

    I learned a way to do this cast on where all the stitches are properly oriented. Not that knitting through the back loop for that one round is a big deal. Thanks for sharing your method!

    I know that this is an older video and I'm kinda late arriving here but I have a couple of comments.
    I like this cast on. However, I do a couple of things different now that I'm learning things here.
    1) When I start instead of fiddling around with twisting things so that the tail is in the back I just put the yarn on my left hand with the tail to the back. Next I slip the yarn between the two needles. Here's the trick I move the tips of the needles under the yarn on the thumb sidr of the needles giving me the loop on the top needle that is twisted as if I had done it like the video shows.
    2) This helps with my next thing. When I start to knit I first turn the end loop on the starting needle around so the tail is between the first loop and the second.
    3) For the first 4 stitches I lay the tail yarn across the work so it passes back and forth between those first four stitches. Then I knit most of the tail in as I knit across the work. This will make the work on the first row on this side look like it has extra stitches, here I make sure to pick up both loops when knitting the second row on this side. I'm lazy and would rather just trim the tail instead of having to weave it in first.
    I hope that I expressed these things clear enough that others can give my changes a try.

      OK I am starting for the third time... some how I knit something. Wrong.. I wound up with the yarn on the wrong side of the knitting. I am working on the getting to go around back to the first sock. Eels... How do you keep them straight? I guess keeping them separated on the loop is the key??? The first and the last round on the first sock. I hope to get this right this time.. I will let you knjow how it is going..

      If you are having difficulty with which sock is which, try it with two colours first. And try a much smaller size. My first were toddler socks, one blue and one brown. Good luck ☺️

    Thankyou for wonderful video. Just a note. If you cast on differently with the way you put the yarn on the needle you will not have to knit in the back of the sts on your bottom side. Watch sockmaticians video on Judy’s magic cast on❤️

    If you wrap the yarn around both needles going the same direction, then the one side won't be mounted differently and won't need to be knit through the back loop.

    I thank you for this method., im going to start knitting into the back., when you start out on the first row of knit... I try the other way and it keeps messing up on me., i dont like the way it turns out.. So im going to try to do the knit into the back where it will lay flat... I also like how you M1., i try other method., they were hard too., 😕🙁👍 Thank You.. Thumbs Up!!!😁👍😊☺

    I realize that showing the construction of the afterthought heel would be too much to include in this video, but I do have one question about it. Do you do both heels at the same time?

  • @missbananabike5790
    @missbananabike5790 4 роки тому

    I realise this video is almost two years old, but I just wanted to make life easier with a quick tip. If not yours (because you already know) then your viewers'. When you cast on the toes, you mention to cast on the yarn from the 'outside in' .. This absolutely works, but then you end up having to knit thruough the back to make the stitches lay flat. If you cast on your stitches 'bottom to top' (so cast on the top needle in the same direction you were already casting on the bottom needle) - that way you kan knit all the knits as normal and it will all lay flat 😊

      Hi Martha, I’m not sally sharing a pattern here. I just cast on 16 stitches on each needle per sock, increase to 32 stitches on each needle (per sock) so each sock has 64 stitches and then I knit a long tube until I get to the ribbing for the cuff. I will be uploading a video soon with information on how to add a heel!

    I was following you really well until you started to knit. The moment you pulled out the needle to begin working is where you lost me with the explanation. You fumbled your words when explaining which thread to use and which one to leave pulled back; however, I continue to watch you over and over as you are an exceptional knitter. I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to make this tutorial!

    • @chargreene1
      @chargreene1 4 роки тому

      Deb Jewett you hold the short “bit” or the tail in your left hand to hold the wrapped first cast on stitch tight until it is knitted, that is how you avoid needing to “knot it”. I started a pair like this but had so much trouble with the classic M1R and M1L technique that I ripped it all out. I can’t wait to try this method. At least this works for right handed folks

    • @BraidAndTinker
      @BraidAndTinker  5 років тому +1

      I think it CAN be done! But you will have to give yarn management some thought. You should try it out, if you don’t like it, you can always rip back.
