I don't own a Miata but love the detail in the video! ..and yes, I'll watch the entire video! The work and effort you put into making this high quality video is second to none. Keep the videos coming!
This is amazing! I got a miata with oil all over the engine bay and need to clean it all out. Plan on replacing almost everything in the engine bay, and this is so helpful!
this was amazing. I own a 99 NB and now I finally understood all of the motor parts thanks to your awesome video tutorial on the MX-5 / miata. thanks. 🤙🏎
Thank you so much for this guide, truly your time is really appreciated! Got a subscriber out of me! I am a brand new diy mechanic, and my first project car is a Miata have wanted once since 97, finally have time to learn mechanics and enjoy a hobby! Just turned 43 and got a job that pays enough I don’t need to work a ton of Over Time and I can afford to do a project and buy the tools I need!
As the headline also mentions NB: the NB alternator has only one bolt at the bottom, which is installed FROM THE BACK. So there is no nut missing on the front, and you'll also will have the "benefit" to remove the intakebody crutch prior to wiggling out this pretty long bolt.
I was able to very easily break loose the two bolts at 23:00 using a ratcheting 12mm box wrench. I then removed the bolts holding the power steering unit in place to move it out of the way to then fully remove those two bolts. It was still tricky to scrape off the seal though so I think I'll try to remove that piece of pipe anyways so it's easier to apply the new gasket and gasket maker to it. Also this video is great, Ive constantly been rewatching it while working on mine (it's been a few days from finding new things I should replace, waiting for parts, and making time to keep working on it).
Really thought you would never upload again. I have been following the datsun restomod since the beginning and am looking forward to the next episode! Glad to have you back!
I did my seals this spring. Be very, very carefull with removing the crank sprocket, you might damage either the sprocket or oilpump and reinstall the new seals very, very precies or they may leak after all. Then it becomes a costly and long running repair. Cas o ring is very fiddely but do able. Ps: by far the best video according all the engine jobs!
Awesome video! Love the detail. My Miata is having some issues, I won't be doing the work myself, but having content like this really helps understand what the mechanics are talking about! Great context
Just finished watching your video on the Mazda Miata. That was so awesome.. I have to do something similar to my 2008 Mazda Miata MX five if you can do a video on that one it would be nice
So cool! I’m original owner of 94 NA and previously had a 71 and 72 240Zs. Noticed the restore of the Z on the background. I miss my old 71. Wish I could have kept her. Great video.
You don't need a cam shaft holder tool, OR wrenches to keep them in position. The cam gears ONLY go on one way, and as long as the CRANK is TDC (top dead center) then you can put the cam gears back on, and set them also to TDC - and you are good to go.
Great video sir! Can the CAS to removed and resealed without taking the whole top of the engine apart? My son just bought a 1990 Miata and it looks like the CAS is leaking pretty bad.
not a good idea to "drop your spark plugs down the chute" unless you like buying new ones or dealing with misfire engine codes since you can easily damage one doing that. best to seat each plug in the spark plug socket and put them in correctly one at a time then torque them to the correct rating.
He is correct its 1.6l miata it has AFM not MAF. There is flap which regulates/meassuresair flow. On 1.8l miata there is only sensor which meassures air mass flow MAF.
@@QuincyStick man you don't know what are you talking about. AFM was replaced by MAF in '90s. AFM and MAF work differently and are absolutely different things.
I’ve been working on my 1990 and this is like my 20th time watching this video, I’ve learned so much

Wow, This is incredible. One day this will be considered a classic Miata vid.
This is amazing! I got a miata with oil all over the engine bay and need to clean it all out. Plan on replacing almost everything in the engine bay, and this is so helpful!
There’s not even anything wrong with my Miata, I just love rewatching this video because of how relaxing and in depth it is.

I watched the entire video too and will be back when I rebuild the MX-5

I actually got this book you suggested from my girlfriend and I can assure everyone. It's the best gift ever :) For sure worth checking out!
Nice job. Very detailed and informative! Thanks for the hard work separating it all out too!
Awesome content, thank you!
Beautiful work and thanks so much for sharing!
thank you soo much for such a great instructional video! this has helped me out A LOT

You should upload more... your a good young man with talent for this
Dont have a Miata, but enjoyed watching your excellent video with a great narration & tips, thank you for making this video for us car guys!
I just bought a 92 miata and this video has helped so much, Thank you!
This saves me so much research and hassle! Excellent tutorial and a lifesaver. Thanks!!
welcome back
One of the greatest DIY walkthroughs I've ever seen (and I've seen a bunch!) Amazing work and thank you for taking the time to make this!
Great video man, thanks for the extra detail on some of the smaller things really keeps you from losing track of things.
This is great… i always prefer doing my own maintenance rather then bringing it to a shop. Thanks
Pretty thorough. Always love playing with my NA.
Nice vid. Somebody put the alternator belt on upside before you.

This is amazing, thank you for all your effort! I am going to reference this over and over again.
Recommended crankshaft bolt torque for a SNC is now 97-104 ft-lbs.
Happy to see you are still tinkering away in your garage! Its always nice to see Marty and the other projects you have going on

Beautiful... Need to change my timing belt in a year or two... this will be my guide
Great video, watched the entire thing, really like how quickly you went over everything
Nice like the dastsun in the background 😊
Thank you very much for this incredible video greetings from Spain.
phenomenal work sir! Thank you for taking the time to do this!!
Have you finished the ignition timing video? Looking forward to it!
Such a well made video. Thank you!
thank you for this . I have to do fuel injector seals and coolant hoses. while im in there going to try to do the rest.
Absolute lifesaver. You are a godsend.
this is so useful thank u wish more ppl will see this vid
Thank you for taking the extra time out to make this video! You definitely help me.
This is a godsend, absolutely amazing work! I'm sure you'll save many people hours of struggle with this video.
Thank you so much for this guide
Awesome video, very informative and enjoyably entertaining..

Very good job. Thanks you 😊
Incredible.
Nice, I just did all of this plus valve stem seals.
yo this video is f***n awesome
good job man

This is a very good video, but I would also change the injector seals too.
❤ Eccellente video tutorial 👍
Thank you!!!

Great video. Beautiful silver 😍

Great video!!
A bigger woodruff key would solve that problem too. And you can build it on your own.😇😇
At 28:42 does the CAS cap need any RTV since that area leaks so much?
I did a thermostat replacement yesterday, there was no thermostat when I opened it
THIS IS FOR A SHORT NOSE
ALSO A 1.6L - most videos dont say 1.6 or 1.8, which really sucks.
You mentioned that this is the 1.6L, are there huge differences between this and the 1.8?
Can a rebuilt head from a mk2 1.6 bolt straight to a mk1 block? New gasket and head bolts obviously, got both rocker covers.
Great video sir! Can the CAS to removed and resealed without taking the whole top of the engine apart? My son just bought a 1990 Miata and it looks like the CAS is leaking pretty bad.
Yes, just the cas can be removed. Taking the valve cover off is stupidly easy though, if you do decide to replace its gasket as well.

You called an AFM air flow meter, actually called the MAF mass airflow sensor to be correct.

It is an AFM, not a MAF. Don't try to correct others when you do not know what you're talking about.

@kornizz5549 not exactly sure why you think I'm 1. Talking to you 2. Disagreeing with you. In this video, it's an AFM, as that's what 1.6s used.

Roughly how much was all the parts?
sooooo we gon just ignor this mans FLAT BOTTOM OEM WHEEL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! where can I getttttttt????
