My favorite part about this cover is the emotion and strength that each singer exudes. This was their response to the Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016, as each singer is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Fan fact, Mario is/was a member of pentatonix stage crew. They let him open for them for his birthday one year.
he was on the Sing-Off before Pentatonix, and he is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music (which is the same school from which Matt Sallee graduated), so he wasn't an unknown quantity.

Mary Lambert co-wrote and sang on Macklemore's "Same Love" song and got a couple of Grammy nominations for it.
She WON GRAMMYS for it!
@@drieuxkoeppel8152 That's not correct. "Same Love" was nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammys in 2014 but lost to "Royals". Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' album The Heist which featured this song was also nominated for Album of the Year but lost to Beck's Morning Phase. "Same Love" did win the MTV Video Music Award in 2013 though. Plus it achieved 3X platinum sales in the U.S.
It should be noted that Macklemore actually samples from her song She Keeps Me Warm, which is where her lyrics in Same Love are taken from.
I take it back, She Keeps Me Warm was taken from Same Love.. I had it backwards.
If you liked Mario Jose, you DEFINITELY need to check out his and Scott's cover of LP's "Lost on You" with the backing track of Hans Zimmer's "Time" from the movie Inception. And if you're not familiar with one or both of those originals, familiarize yourself with them before reacting to Scott and Mario's cover. The mashup is pure genius!

I cried the first time I watched this version. It's still my absolute favorite version of Rise. It's so emotional, extraordinarily beautiful, and technically perfect. It's almost overwhelming, but it's so powerful and very heartfelt. Highly recommend.

Mario auditioned for American Idol back in the day but didn't make the cut. After that he was on the Pentatonix crew for a tour during which several members of the group gave him vocal lessons. Later in the tour they surprised him by flying his family out for a show and making him their opening act for that night.
Before Mario was on the crew of their tour he was actually on season 1 of the sing off in his own college a cappella group so it's not like the members really had to really give him vocal lessons. When he thanks Mitch for the lessons after he comes off stage I took that as more of a throwaway comment and maybe they worked together on techniques a few times. Mario certainly already knew how to sing before joining their stage crew.
@@PtxXtp Thank you for this because people always underestimate, or misconstrue Mario's talent. He graduated from Berkelee college of music his college group pitch slapped was on the same season of the sing off as PTX but unfortunately were the first voted off in there round. Either way ptx has known Mario since 2011, and are still friends. He's an amazing guy and vocalist 🙏🏾❤️
Fellow music teacher here…this is my absolute favourite song. I can’t ever get through it without chills and tears. I totally feel you with the short circuiting…so much power, so many layers, the emotion…all of it! Utterly brilliance. Their chorus of “rise” in the coda and Mary’s final solo…I literally have to hold my breath each time!!!! ❤❤❤❤

Sorry Katie Perry, but this is the definitive version of this song for me. I lived in Orlando about a mile from the Pulse Nightclub shooting when it happened. Superfruit & Friends version of this song always makes me cry. So incredibly powerful and gorgeous. Thanks for reacting to it! Happy New Year! 🎉

Mario Jose was actually discovered by Pentatonix, they let him come on stage at one of their very early concerts to do a song. He was phenomenal. Actually him and Scott have a a duet together that they filmed quite awhile ago called "Lost on you". You really do need to listen to that is was fantastic. Mary Lambert I really haven't heard much about her. And of course Brian Justin Crum was on America's Got Talent. Not sure if he won it that year, I know he did the song Creep on that show it was amazingly haunting.
No, he was not "discovered" by Pentatonix, but his opening for their show in Boston helped raise his profile, and now he is part of the rolodex of vocalists for Postmodern Jukebox when he isn't doing his own projects. As someone else noted, he was on the Sing-Off before Pentatonix, and he is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music (which is the same school from which Matt Sallee graduated), so he wasn't an unknown quantity. This is not a rant directed at you, but an attempt to not diminish Mario Jose's talent by saying he was just a member of the touring crew before his big break.

This is the most serious Superfruit gets. This was made in response to the pulse night club shooting. All of these singers are LGBTQt. And I always cry when I hear this. Even after all this time the fierce pain is felt. Let’s hope the new year brings people more love and less hate

I found Superfruit with this video. I was here from BJC and my jaw dropped when I heard Scott & Mitch. Mitch’s tone made me tear up. Great arrangement. This cover is powerful & more meaningful when you consider the reason why they performed this song.

This song is perfection. If you want some laughs listen to superfruit “hip-hop gone Broadway part one and two“. For Pentatonix their new song “The Prayer” is amazing.
Pretty sure he already did the Prayer but you're right I bet he'd get a kick out of hip hop goes Broadway 1&2 and to add to that Pop goes Broadway. I'm sure he'd really appreciate the Broadway feel Scott and Mitch we're able to put to regular hip hop and pop songs and lyrics. They're very creative.
Yay! DJ got his head blown, again. I am convinced that the Mitch and Avi show will just finish him off. Janelle probably will not appreciate having to clean up the mess. So, he might want to let his brain recover a little. But watch the official video first of Aha!, and then watch the ultimate Mitch slap, also known as Aha! Singapore star Vista. Kevin is there, just not shown.

Mary Lambert was born on May 3, 1989 in Seattle, Washington. She is a singer, songwriter, spoken word artist, LGBTQ activist and poet. She also plays piano, guitar and cello. She was the featured artist on the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis track "Same Love" (which she also co-wrote).

These guys are a massive pool of pure god given talent! And you really need to do Scott and Mario's cover of Hans Zimmer's "Lost In You" its remarkable. I love how "powerfully soft" Mary Lambert's voice is with all these guys who can power belt the hell out of a song. Mary is from the Seattle region of WA, so that's probably the accent your picking up. Mario was on PTX, stage crew and Scott heard him singing, welcomed him to sing on their Tour a bit and he grew from there. Brian got his break on America's Got Talent, and AGT Champions....he's insanely crazy good. They're all strong advocates for the LGBTQ community and this song was done as a celebration of that and all who can see love without barriers. Great reaction, loved it!!

Mary Lambert sang backing vocals on Macklemore's One Love, then took the lyrics and went crazy on her own with She Keeps Me Warm. It's absolutely beautiful.

Perhaps THE most powerful song I have ever heard. And doing this in response to the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando where 49 people were murdered and dozens more injured makes it even more powerful.
So I see few comments giving you all the details about these amazing singers. I’ll just leave this: Highly highly recommend Superfruit’s defying gravity, empire medley and Rihanna’s anti medley please please, you won’t regret.
I was extremely surprised and excited to see that you were reacting to this because it is simply amazing and definitely one of my favorite covers period. Your reaction is awesome also. I love the fact that you were legitimately blown away by what was happening. If you do another of BJC's videos I think it has to be his audition on AGT where he performed Creep. If Brian had not been the last contestant to audition the year he was on AGT, all the Golden Buzzers would not have been used already - his "Somebody to Love" would have earned him one...his next performance ("Creep") would have won him the show...he's done a ton of cool stuff since then, including a series of diva songs and an original, "Circles," that is fabulous. My favorite, though, is his mash-up of "All I Ask/Believe" - it showcases his ability to compel you to feel what he's singing with just his voice. He was the reason I discovered PTX! Found this song searching UA-cam to see what he'd been doing after AGT, and "Hallelujah" was the top suggestion :-)

It's about time. Superfruit is the two best parts of Pentatonix. Rewatch Hallelujah. Break down Scott's cries as he has shared his vocal. Agree that Kirstie shreds, Mitchell is crazy, Scott brings soul. I get chills each time uses that emotion at the end of his belts. Goodness he's the glue for the group!
FINALLY someone else hears that too! Passion and Soul. Scott is my favorite because he feels it. Matt is a talented Bass, Kevin blows me away, and Kirsty is invaluable. Without her, they're not successful. Shew.

DJ, beyond the obvious amassed talent, this song is so strong because it is an emotional response to the massacre at the (was it Pulse?) Nightclub where a slaughter of LGBTQ folks happened. The singers here are all LGBTQ legends, and the song is a triumph over that terrible, senseless disaster. This is my favorite song, the emotions and abilities here have created such a strong response...these voices will not be silenced, thank God!
I believe this was released 1 year after the tragedy in memoriam.
@@mjbartholomew5317 this song was put out only a few months after the pulse tragedy. It happened in June 2016 and they released this cover in Sept 2016.

The box thing is weird. I find my audience is split 50/50 on whether or not it should be small or full size. I prefer this way for editing as it adds a lot to the visuals of the video as a whole :)

Have u heard of Matt Cardle? Out of UK & has such a pure beautiful voice which can conveys ANY emotion in such a unique way. ‘First Time I Ever Saw Your Face’ or his cover ‘Beat of a Breaking Heart’. He has a number of albums but no one seems to have heard of him. His voice breaks hearts. NOT Josh Groban clear but SO PURE.

Like someone said below . they did this for the Pulse Nightclub shootings so Mary's part always hits me the hardest . To me it sounds like someone talking to themselves at the club to try and make it through the chaos.
If you haven't seen Brain's version of Creep it's on his AGT performance but I highly recommend checking it out (Well honestly that one and the version he did on his youtube channel.) This whole song is amazing by the way.
