Another great video. I've never used the planer boards, but my brother in law and I have gone after Lake Trout and Salmon on Superior out of Grand Marais. He has power down riggers on his old 21 ft. Crestliner. Great fun, but such a different style of fishing. Cheers!
thanks for another great video, I used to fish Steelhead out here in Washington state and my biggest was 39 inches long and 21 pounds. even tho I'm from Michigan I never fished Lake Michigan. I'm getting too old to get out anymore. it's fun watching too! stay safe, nice of the skipper to let you fight all the fish
First time I have watched your show. Love watching the salmon shows! Really want to try that Pesto on my salmon!! Never even thought about doing that. Glad you had a great time doing this show!
Thanks for adding John’s information. I am heading to Boston next week but next year I’ll see if I can book a trip with John. That looks like a lot of fun for my son and I.
You two would have a blast! He’s very knowledgeable and can do it all, from yellow perch to smallmouth to pike to offshore trolling. Just depends what time of year you go
You’re better off, and much closer, taking your boat to Lorain OH in July and August….tons of Steelhead offshore in the deep cold water of the Central Basin.
This captain should know there are very reliable methods for setting planer boards (offshore or church) so that it trips and releases when a fish is on, or when you choose to release it to bring it in. On my boat, we go one step further and allow the Church board to slide down the line when tripped, stopping at the barrel swivel connection to the leader. This allows the angler to literally fight only the fish, with more direct positive control, all the way to the net.
If you make it up that way again, try to find time for some king salmon fishing in the rivers. The Grand River has the biggest, but is the most crowded. The Betsie River has big fish and isn't as many people.
They should be gathering at all the river mouths right now, in anywhere from 40-15 feet waiting to eat up all them salmon eggs in the rivers once the temperature drops
@@YakFishField try and hook up with the guys at addicted for some winter steelhead. My favorite fishery and the guides on addicted I’ve fished with are a ton of fun.
@brett suydam, our forefathers brought your Steelhead strain here back in1895, great sport here on a noodle rod,8lb main,6lb leader . My PB is 12lbs from Michigan's au sable
When you are bringing in the board give it a little jerk to trip the board so you dont run into other boards when you trip it, it will Slide down the line and stop by the leader and then it will go to the middle of the boat
The lake is 60k sq. KM The migrate up rivers to spawn, and back to the lake, just like ocean run steelhead. They are an introduced species to the great lakes, just like salmon.
Did u enjoy eating that steelhead I’m here in Lake Erie I do a lot of walleye fishing and steelhead guiding in the river steelhead are to strong tasting for me
I grew up on Lake Michigan and after moving south to fish salt for a living everytime i see a Steelie in the 2 to 3 pound range all i can envision is rigging one for a flatline and watching a big Wahoo smoke that shiny thing 🤣 by the way...there is no f'ing way that line broke because you BARELY pulled on that board rod. That wasnt your mistake and whoever didnt re tie was to blame
Welcome to Great Lakes winter fishing. Only thing that keeps me sane in winter
Yeah! This was in the summer tho
@@YakFishField in the winter they come up into creeks and rivers. Thats when i fish for them
Just go river fish for trout, it holds me over
Take me!
You guys made getting the spread right for trolling look easier than it probably is. Well done on a delicious looking dinner sir 🤩
It’s a lot of work for sure. Super interesting to me watching how precise the setup is for each one
Banger of a video, loved every second

Yeah it’s totally different than anything I’ve ever done down south. Fun to learn the process

Congratulations. Steelhead in the Great Lakes tribs are an absolute blast in the fall, winter and spring. Give it a shot sometime!
SO MUCH FUN! One of the most fun fish in the Midwest/great lakes, right up there with Musky
They’re so acrobatic! I want to catch one on the fly now
@@YakFishField that would be EPIC BROTHER!!!
Salmon with bbq sauce is amazing - my favorite!
Steelhead unlocked. 🔓
Welcome to the great lakes! I live on the Michigan side!

What a great video, nicely done. Cap'n knows his stuff, good people.
Yeah Jon’s a great guy and super knowledgeable about the lake

What brings you to Boston, fishing?
Tight lines from BOSTON

Nice video and catch bro, excelente comida!!
Gracias hermano 👊🏼
Use to catch them shore fishing off the cement piers in Chicago twice a year when the lake turns over coho, steelhead AND Chinook
Very cool
I'm from MI, east side off St.Clair, I have to make lake MI steelhead a bucket list fish, looks like a blast Rob!
It was! Hit up Jon if ya want some help!

Epic content brother 💯💯💯!!!!
I worked up there for awhile I love it up there
Beautiful part of the country
I remember when we used to have great fishing like that. They screwed up our hatchery system and your lucky to catch one a year
Where’s that?

I live on the Lewis River in Washington state. I used to fish the entire state

Most of the time with salmon and steelhead I go spear fishing, but hooked up to a king salmon on my kayak probably around the same time.
They should be gathering at all the river mouths right now, in anywhere from 40-15 feet waiting to eat up all them salmon eggs in the rivers once the temperature drops
Yeah almost that time
One day Robert One day. 😁
Need to try for the real steelhead out west during the winter sometime.

What’s the clicker for the anglr app you have?
The ANGLR Bullseye
How do you get steelhead in a landlocked lake?
They are an introduced species. Skamania run bred and released.
The lake is 60k sq. KM

You put them there
Never been to the ocean, it's a rainbow---- just saying
Come to the east coast and fish with us!
I think you should've set up one more rod😮
What brand rail mount rod holders are those
Cisco
Try coming to Missouri and catch monster flathead catfish and channel cats
Sounds like a blast! Where in Missouri?
Boy that meat doesn’t quite look the same as Pacific Ocean fish I’m sure it was still delicious
It’s still delicious but yeah, the ocean-dwelling ones are different I’m sure. Gotta find out one day
When the board dives in the water point the rod tip to the water put the down the board won’t dive
Coho the best to eat

What is the brand and model of the boat, please.
Striiiike...
Those are small fish. He acts as if it's a 100 lbs fish. In Florida, those are considered tiny fish.
I hope you bonked and bled those fish.
Edit: fillet's looked pretty bloody guessing they weren't.
