One of the most enduring complaints about Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the villager dialogue. Players want to see more interesting, varied dialogue from their villagers. However it turns out that it might be already in the game - you just have to know how to find it. Here is how to get new and rare dialogue in ACNH.

I agree with you about the characters talking to each other. I really get a kick out of that. I’m always catching them talking. It’s one of my favorite things to do as far as conversations go.
Uchi villagers talking with smug villagers is always hilarious 😂
Slappy Clobbertown is the best!
Higher friendship with villagers unlocks more dialogue so keep interacting with them! Also the first time you talk to a villager that day, the dialogue is always more repetitive but after that there is more variety :)
Every day Dom tells me the names of his Abs 😭
@@sfooshy4517 i mean, what else could you expect from a jock? Happens in AC, happens IRL
My fav villager convo today was Merengue getting pissed at Vivian and stomping around mad afterward. Viv is such a diva, I didn’t blame her.
yup, tangy always tells me the best things, so does raymond/ bob bc were highest level !!
One piece of interesting dialog I got was from Raymond. I noticed him staring up at the sky and when I went to talk to him- he commented on the cloud trail left from the Dodo plane. He said something along the lines of "where do you think it goes?" And saying that he wanted to be able to travel all over.
Also- I have a high friendship value with all my villagers. I even got Shino to give me her photo twice which shocked me. But something I noticed now is that whenever I'm on- almost always I have villagers running up to me or having bubbles over their heads, cause they wanna gift me something or ask a favor. They didn't do this as much before the update I don't think- so I find that interesting. Def worth making friends with all ur villager.
When two villagers talk to each other, what they're talking about is also determined by BOTH of their personalities, which immediately means there's 64 individual sets of dialogue, and of course there's not only one topic for each combination. Most of the time you also have to make choices, and sometimes I even see the same conversation topic play out differently at random, regardless of my choices.
Also, having one of each personality type can be helpful if you're looking for DIY recipes, as the kind of recipes villagers can give you are actually different for each personality (although there is some overlap, and Message Bottles can still contain any recipe, so you're not like, missing out completely if you happen to be missing a personality type)
Im so glad you brought up having at least one of each personality type, I see so many people talk about repetitive dialogue yet they kick out their sisterly and cranky villagers as soon as they can (which imo happen to be the most entertaining villagers to have and are the closest to the villagers in previous games) and have half of their villagers be normal type. Yeah the acnh dialogue is limited overall but there's a reason why your villagers don't talk about anything other than reading and cooking.
Honestly, Wild World was my childhood. I miss the whole "You're new, I don't trust you yet but, hi." to slowly seeing them trust you and being your best friend, the kind to scold you but in a loving way ESPECIALLY the grumpy. The mechanics of the personalities were just better in my opinion and deeper. The problem is... we compare. Comparing will ALWAYS make you want other things which can lead to people being burnt out or put off the game but Nintendo is trying and that's all that matters.
New Horizons is still an amazing game and the series will always hold dear to my heart ♥
I wish there was a mod that added dialogue from wild world and new leaf
@@Ababa3256 both versions had shitty but also good dialogue. Wild World is still my favorite as well, but only because of nostalgia.
@@19Rena96 I tried wild world in like 2019, I find the game much more charming both music wise and asthaetically (don't get me started on the thunder in that game), but also in terms of the villager dialogue. Of course NH is a wonderful game in many ways, but it's very disappointing to see that they CHANGED the personalities of some villagers. My old "town bully" Elvis is an old grumpy man now, and I feel like it ruined my image of this villager I loved. Like many said before, the main appeal of villagers now is their look. I never would've let Elvis live on my island now. But of course this is just my opinion.
@@Ababa3256 I 100% agree. The "grumpy" wolves act like old men when they don't look it (apart from Dobie) and I feel it kinda ruins it. Elvis I don't mind being an "old man" but I also agree too... I miss the "tough love" or how they had their own quirks.
@@19Rena96 I also don't think you're is wrong, New Leaf also had some repetative dialogue. I do put WW on a pedastal because of nostalgia but I honestly don't see anything wrong with the dialogue or mechanics. I think, again, it's bitter sweet. They were bitter then started to melt and became sweet.
I do think that there is a lot of dialogue but trying to get to it can be a bit daunting? There is also the fact that since some villagers on the island might have the same personalities, they repeat the same basic dialogue all the time and it gets boring unless you're doing one of these rarer things that make them comment on your outfit or something. I think it would've been nice if Nintendo had maybe made more ways to actually interact with your villagers around the island like mini games, running errands for them and COOKING. Cooking your villagers fave dish or being able to invite them over for dinner would've been really fun too.
Thank you! Seriously, I see so many complaints about the villagers and I often think people just don’t take the time or have nostalgia glasses on. The villagers in New Leaf repeated themselves a lot and seemed really lifeless as they just walked about town all day with a tool in hand.
The dialogue definitely could be sassier in places but especially the villager interactions between each other have a lot of that, as you pointed out. I think the NH villagers are immensely charming tbh. ☺️
This reminds me of something a villager wrote to me. What they wrote was well, it made my day and I wanted to share it with more people.
Thinking of you, tanisha
I was out for a walk on the beach just now when I remembered a funny thing you said once, and it made me smile all over again.I thought you should know that, so that’s why I sent you this note.
Never change. -Skye
Yo I have Skye on my island
One of the best interactions I’ve ever had on acnh was the other day when Lolly told me that I reminded her of one of the characters in a coffee shop fanfic she was reading the other day and that she pictures me when she reads it hahaha! It genuinely made me laugh so hard reading that because I wasn’t expecting her to ever say something like that!
Love listening to other villagers conversations, some of them are hilarious and the villagers with cranky personalities are always moaning about new technology and how they don’t understand selfies! lol
Raymond and eugene had a conversation on my island about music eugene told raymond to give him a beat so raymond says "and boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats" it was too precious
Not just special outfits, they often comment on regular items I am wearing, sometimes even giving me one to “complete” my outfit.
The most interesting dialogue for me has been with the Able sisters. I love getting more about their backstory and see their sibling style comments when we talk.
I love listening in on my villagers conversations. They say the funniest things.
I actually had some dialogue today I hadn’t ever seen before. There was a book laying on the ground and I was going to investigate it later. Turns out Ken runs up to me and tells me about a book he lost and would I help him look for it.
I remember in past games, I'd occasionally get berated for eavesdropping on villager conversations, which kinda conditioned me to not interrupt in ACNH. Kinda like how I was conditioned to NEVER complain about Brewster's coffee or hurt his feelings in any way, in fear that I wouldn't get that next friendship level or whatever, when he's actually a kinder, gentler Brewster nowadays, who will even serve coffee at a lower temperature for you after a while of saying it was too hot.
I know if you dig a little you will get unique dialogue or at least dialogue you don’t see much but the first few times you talk to your villager on a new day it will almost always be the exact same dialogue you always hear that you don’t even want to bother talking to them for very long. If they just changed it so the initial dialogue isn’t always the same it would be a better incentive to keep talking to them and nobody would complain about it anymore.
If you’re still not satisfied with the dialogue make up a story for your villagers! The other day I basically saw how Cherry came out to the auntie of the island Timbra. Ever since then I’ve been looking for her future girlfriend Bluebear (who sent a cherry lamp diy today in the message in a bottle. They’re meant to be)
same here, fantasy helps alot in giving your characters a personality. I think alot of people miss that in other games as well like acnl they were repetitive, so its always fun to create a lil story
Yeah. For example, Ribbot and Zucker being cute boyfriends
When one of my villagers move away, the things they say make me feel sad that I won't be able to see them again, I remember when Kyle said: Thank you for always being a friend. I'll never forget the time we spent here.
#bobsgang
I really hope in the next AC game they improve villager dialogue. It's been repetitive since New Leaf and I want my villagers to have some sass. Hopefully they focus more on the friendship part of Animal Crossing while still keeping the decorating.
Never thought perfect Raymond would misspell „Willkommen“ 🤣
Also, I’ve seen the dialogue when I finished my whole critterpedia and when I wore a traditional dress lately, Del told me, that I look very dressed up and that he’s worried to get it dirty (not that I was chopping down trees in it before or anything 🤣)
I want the mean villagers back:(
The villagers talking is cool until they share catchphrases when it only works with one of them
I was talking to Lucky and he had what i like to call a Matrix moment where he believes we are all in a game.
Zell has been giving me "Can I get a hug" kind vibes qnd then he had a convo with Violet where he asked for a kiss then "can I at least get a hug" omg that killed me
i got bored of talking to my villagers but i always talk to villagers on other islands they always have different dialogue lol
But I can't help having three snooty gals on my island, they're like the Queens of my island😂
Me with normals, they’re so cute
(SPOILERS FOR THE HAPPY HOME PARADISE DLC!) I don't like that the last set of emotes needed to compete it is locked behind the DLC. Some people who might not ever be able to buy it can't finish their emotes.
@@Hauntaku I still feel the same way as you do. Don't worry you are not the only one.
My favorite thing is when you catch two of them having a conversation it's funny... But I do agree that if you speak to them on their own they usually do repeat themselves
I noticed special NPCs show up a lot more now. Also, I was talking with Diva the other day and she was telling me about where she grew up. Cube even mentioned driving… it’s cute!!!! I’m bad at paying attention so
7:48 I’ll have you know I gladly let Marlo onto my island, because I think judging villagers based on their appearance is superficial and kind of like being a physiognomist. #uglyvillagersneedlovetoo
Marlo is one of my favorites I made him a vacation home when I saw him
Catching all fish also results in special dialogue, I just had Jay (jock) congratulate me and ask what kind of fish I would benchpress haha
I was digging and ketchup told me she hid 7 pitfall traps around the island 😭
I haven’t play Horizons for a long time. I even go back to New Leaf.
The most unique dialog I had was from my lazy villager Papi (a horse) he let on that the Island is a game and what about Tom Nook what is Tom Nook about....it made me laugh and your villager's reaction is shocked that he knows...its hilarious...
I love hidden villager dialogue and omg ty for the tweet feature!!!!
When I started my new island I always made sure that I have at least every type of neighbour on it. I have two lazy and two smug villagers and the rest have different personalities.
One of the rarest thing I heard was from Bob. He said something... How can I say this? I guess I have to murder him because he knows too much. Well he thought this was a dream. He noticed that he is in a game and nothing made sense. He talked about how ridiculous it is that economy doesn't work like in the game and so on. He ate six!!!! Six bags of crisps and fell asleep while the TV was on.
Maybe he saw the aliens which appear at 3:33 AM every saturday?
I kept this conversation but unfortunately it's in my native language...
It would be absolutely amazing if the villagers in new horizons could donate to the museum can you imagine how much faster you could get the museum done
Thanks for pointing this out!
Bob's Gang
I realize any of the villagers (depending on personalities) also have a secret dialogue after having a conversation with another villager
This is such a helpful channel! Especially when villager hunting you can get some cool dialogue after inviting them if you do certain things, but villagers are still super rude and nosy. #Bobsgang
I was congratulated when completing the fossil collection, it was adorable 🥰
I have definitely noticed some more variations in the dialogue! It makes it a lot more interesting, especially since they aren’t repeating the same things over and over again
Nan and Marina had the cutest discussion about what to gift Marcel and they asked my character- since he’s a lazy type i said apple strudel and they planned a baking date together 🥰
Bob's Gang
At 8:46 you say "for the next installment", have you read something from datamine info that Nintendo may do for e.g. 3 20 '22 @Crossing Channel thanks for your videos.
Most interesting dialogue I’ve encountered so far: I watered my produce while it was raining (apparently letting the rain water your produce doesn’t count toward your plant tending streak, and affects your produce yield), and Ozzie questioned why I would do that. I confused the heck out of that koala. 🤣
I've done a pretty literal take of having 'one of each personality type on [my] island' and actually only have 8 villagers to avoid mandatory repeats from slot 9 and 10. It does mean I miss out on hearing about Unwavering (2 peppy) or "What are the most important things to have on a deserted island" (2 smug) or whatever other same-type convos there are, but that's okay.) I've also noticed that since villagers have different dialogue at different friendship levels (and seem weirdly more likely to send mail at levels 3-4 than 5-6?) I enjoy cycling them to keep it fresh! But yeah villager dialogue is, if you talk to them too many times without those special circumstances you mentioned, a little bit stale and I always quote Jaiden Animations', "Hi Jaiden! Sometimes I like to sit!" when I see a villager sitting xD
Oh that´s cool! Today I´ve had a villager congratulate me today for fully upgrating my house :D
I enjoy the dialogue repeating maybe because I'm used to seeing it from multiple of the same personality
Bob's Gang. Sometimes the new 2.0 dialogue catches me off guard and I have to record it to go reread it bc I just wasn't expecting what was said (I tend to skim dialogue rather than properly read it)
I actually got a unique piece of dialogue with Tangy, i spoke to her and She invited me to go to the Beach with her, we didn't really go to the Beach, it was more of those pieces of dialogue where You'd agree to something but not really would happen in game, but it was actually really interesting to say the least
Sasha was all of the sudden upset over untied shoes and the fact that he can't tie shoes. Nobody set him off, and it was so weird so I came here to see if the video would mention something about it- did this happen to anyone else?
The only comment I got with my clothing was when I wore the Christmas tree dress I bought from the Able sisters. A cranky villager said I looked cute and they would like to wear it but they wasn’t sure if they could pull the look off 😊
Really random but I had a villager come to my house and I interacted accidentally with one of the things “mom” gave me and Bluebear made specific comments on it like she knew it came from “mom”. It was something like “you can tell that was made by hands that love you. Just the best from a mom I bet” not exactly but you know ✨
I think the dialogue has always been slightly repetitive so yeah... I really don't think New Horizons is too far off either. My island is pretty diverse in personality types with doubles of only smug and lazy and I don't really think it's any more repetitive than it used to be. At least in New Horizons you see the villagers change clothes and just do things around the island. I think the slow trickle of dialogue added through updates might have given New Horizons a worse reputation than it deserves. Of course the lines you've heard repeated over and over before 2.0 feel over played by now.
my villagers talk to me about me talking to alot of people, going on lots of flights and, they once told me abt the time my friend picked all my weeds, lolly said my friend was a weed picking champion!
It's not that there's less dialogue, the issue is that the dialogue is shallow and almost all of the villagers say the same things if put in the same situations. Characters used to have very personal dialogue and personality traits that made them fort more real and personal.
Try wearing the hot dog outfit! Your villagers WILL notice!
I would say by it self if this was the first every AC sure, but the thing is for old AC players we know how much character the old villagers had. They weren’t always nice, and the villagers felt unique one from another even if they had the same personality, were as now they feel too similar :c
Hey, I have a question for you. Do you know if there's species specific dialogues for villagers.
I've seen dog villagers say that they want to make chocolate cake and then ask you why are you looking at them like that (because dogs can't eat chocolate).
Do you know if this an actual feature of the game?
Ben, it seems Nintendo updates the dialog when they do even a minor update . I get refreshed dialog and I have each personality type on my island.
Bob’s Gang- talk to your villager’s twice or more! The first time you’ll just get a basic message But ask them to chat straight away again. The second or third comments tend to be different.
Do you know the code for the platform floor pattern at 1:59? I can’t find it anywhere
How did you put the stairs on the floor in your home I would love to do something with the half walls it looks so cool like a long hallways
I got special dialogue when I put on warm clothes in the summer lol.
They kept commenting on hot hot it is XD
My animals were talking about some strange man stalking the village at night and asked me to patrol island at night to help protect them. WTF? I've been patrolling but haven't for anything or anyone yet.....
could they maybe mean the ghost that appears sometimes?
@@missliv.404 that's the only thing I could think of, other than maybe Celeste. Also one offered to go on patrol with me but I never see him after 8pm. Also Redd there and I was thinking MAYBE him, but honestly I just don't know.
Photobombed more like Presentbombed
IF YOU CHANGE UR GENDER SETTING IN THE GAME THEYLL SAY SOMETHING ABT NOTICING SOMETHING DIFFERENT BUT STILL LOVING YOU AND HOW YOURE STILL THE SAME OL VILLAGER 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
*calls my old villager Reneigh* RENEIGH. YOU DID NOT TELL ME YOU WERE FAMOUS!!???
I walked into a great conversation between Tasha and Quillson... she was just ripping on him, reduced him to a quivering shell of a duck. I was a bit taken aback, but then a day or two later I walked into Cherry ripping on Tasha so I guess all is fair in love and island life. As long as they're all nice to me, what do I care. 😎
I really hoped they would sneak some more dialogue after 2.0 but I guess I am used to the villagers not being that much worth of a talk. That's why I subsidise the interactions by playing Gamecube or City Folk for just a couple minutes the every other day (I really wish there was an autosave back then haha)
I love when I wear a car outfit around KiKi she always mentions it. It’s so adorable.
BobsGang
On my island Raymond says the same dialogue but not new dialogue but it's fine
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SHARES MY LOVE OF BOB
One time I was talking 2 bob and he started 2 break the 4th walk idk if anyone has noticed that before
Hard disagree. Every single villager of one personality type is the same. They all say the same canned lines. And 'they run in circles instead of just standing there' isn't exactly a great change. It's kinda stupid and makes no sense? They're just cute set dressing. Props. I play sim type games for the characters to feel real - Sims 4 sacrificed all personality for better building, and this apparently has too... and I don't even have experience with past AC games to compare to. I just get immersion busted for me when two very different neighbors say the exact same things...it feels very... like animatronics at Disney, or something.
ithe was a Rare Event Dialog. i have make a Video with the switch from it. Where Tom is Running in to the Roster says : the same like Yesterday. See my and Explain the coffe in the Roost is better as the one in the Community Center and then he apologizes because he has to go again because he still has a lot of work to do and doesn't want to pass it on to Isabell because she already has too much to do.
One time when I spoke to punchy (lazy villager) he broke the 4th wall
Bob was my 10th villager
I'm totally guilty of having villagers of the same personality type 😅 dunno how that happens lol
I NEVER talk to my villagers lol
Bob’s Gang!
Bob’s gang! 😊
I hate dealing with villagers, it’s kind of pointless
Bob's gang!
Bob gang!
Bob's gang.
Cool
But I want to be verbally abused by characters in a kids game
Notification gang! Bob’s gang
I don't ever read the dialog. I really don't care what my villagers have to say. I know, I am a Jerk face. I only talk to them so I can eventually get their photos.
992nd like!
