Thanks again for having me on, Dave. The flow was awesome, and this was our longest episode together yet! I hope the viewers gain a lot from our experiences.
Home gyms are the best. It’s super nice being able to take your time and run to the bathroom or something and not come back to your equipment gone. Another thing I love is that I can start the dinner prep during the workout such as getting the rice cooker going. Honestly saves a huge amount of time
I’m on team salt your food, especially when eating a whole food diet. Salt is necessary for so many essential functions in the body and helps keep you hydrated. Blood pressure being too low can also starve vital organs in the body of enough oxygen & nutrients. Avoiding salt when no chronic hypertension is present makes no sense.
Agreed, I got hyponatremia from avoiding adding salt and drinking so much water when I was in highschool wrestling. It can be dangerous if you sweat a lot and over hydrate but don’t add salt
I am pretty confident that your body has a natural gauge for how much salt it needs. If you can put some salt in your mouth and you barely taste it, you probably need more salt. If it tastes too salty you’re probably good. I stay within 1000-2000mg a day depending on my taste for it.
I ended up hyponatremic for a while from avoiding salt. Most people eat processed food that has a ton of salt. So for them, adding salt to food can be ocerkill. But if you're losing salt via sweating in exercise and eating a whole food diet, it's easy to end up with way too little salt intake.
I think it’s time we reclaimed the word fitness. For too long we have taken advice for “fitness” from bodybuilders who pursue aesthetics. We have demonized cardio to the point that we have a whole new term of “hybrid athletes”. When I grew up hybrid athletes were just normal fitness people who would do sports or cardio and lift weights or do some form of resistance training. Obviously we’ve come along way in making people more jacked and as someone who loves lifting this is great but we should have a balance.
The thing I don’t like about dips is it makes a decline press your main press. Compare that to an OHP/BTN Press. I feel muscles targeted are much more aesthetically contributing
@@kudbettinkohen1935 much more aesthetically contributing... unless the bottom portion of your pecs is lagging. which was the case with me. spammed dips for the last year and i finally have some titty.
Fitting 8 total gym sessions into a 40hr work week is not exactly challenging. If you consider there are 168 hours in a week. Lets give 60hr for sleep (just over 8hr PN) then add that to 40hr of work. It allows you 68hr PW to spend on everything other than work and sleep. Dave doesn’t have children so that saves a ton of time.
Nice podcast. Personally I disagree with everything Alex says regarding diet, but I like his training advice a lot. Dont take this the wrong way (someone will) but my friend got hypochondria and the way Alex and he speaks regarding diet etc is so similar lol. This food bad, this is superior, this is healthy, this will destroy you. Fat bad, meat bad, plants good. Yikes
@@luq7805 he said he had body dysmorphia after that one cut he had on his stream. I don’t care what people do, but I do find it ironic how someone who was eating meat a year ago will then cast a judgement on others for their own diets what’s they feel their conscious is clear.
If someone said that they have to drink tons of water because they are always peeing, you might suggest that they have it backwards. But if it is salt instead of water, then that is much more accepted ("yeah, I lose a lot of salt when I work out").
I think cardio, namely running, gets such a bad reputation is because a lot of people will jump head first into it from ground zero. They are on the heavier side due to lifting weights, so running is hard on their joints, and they dont employ progressive overload to their running, and go right into an all-out run. When you get good at running, it's very easy and not hard to recover from when you manage it.
Really good episode, you guys are a great podcast duo. Having watched everything from Revive Stronger, Stronger by Science, and Iron Culture, I still get excited for a new Brains and Gains episode 🤘
In regards to improving arms: forearms, triceps, brachialis/brachioradialis should be in play. I think biceps cap out pretty quickly. My arm measurement hasn't changed much, but my arms look better after improving my triceps strength and doing a lot of hammer curls and direct forearm work. Triceps can be progressed strength wise a lot more than biceps as well, and variations are a lot more important since you need to directly target the long head.
I agree with everything here except that I think biceps don’t so much “cap” early as they do slow down on progress so it takes a lot of time and effort to keep them growing a noticeable amount.
Well I eat chicken and......beef. I eat raw game that's not dead yet. You eat it, and as you start eating it, their death throes are making you hungrier. And that's better than a soybean. -Norm Macdonald

Isn't a vegan diet supposed to cause deficiencies like: 1.Omega 3's(EPA and DHA)????? 2.Heme iron which is more bio available compared to non-heme iron????? 3.vitamin b12????? 4.Bioavailable Lutein present in eggs????? 5.bioavailable Ca,Zn????? 6.Choline which is present in enormous amounts in egg????? 7.Even more Bioavailable b spectrum vitamins??????
Do you know how many nutrient deficiency most people who eat meat have lol. The most common one is an iron deficiency, it’s extremely easy to get all nutrients on a vegan diet. The only one you need to supplement with is b-12, and meat eater’s supplement with it to, they just don’t know. The animals you eat only provide you b-12 because they are injected with massive doses of it.
You don’t see the hypocrisy of bashing “roiders” but literally seconds later saying Matt Weining is your mentor ? Why not show respect for both natties and enhanced ? It makes you sound like you’re holier than though and better than “roiders”

I never do dips as primary. Usually after an incline press as a sort of finisher, and so I don't have to load as much weight
