This actually reminds me of the time where I kept seeing this black umbrella man. It was like three years ago. And it kept scaring me that sometimes I even didn’t want play Garrys mod at night. But it turned out to be that my friend downloaded something wow I let him play Garrys mod on my computer. Never letting him on my computer again… (And turns out the black umbrella man is actually based off of another horror genre. I forgot his name)
I also had the same type of virus, at first it showed messages of my player breathing, after a few days out of nowhere objects appeared that approached me, and then sent me to that same dark room. I thought it was a map that I had entered until it happened on any map, I discovered that it was in a reddit post, it was an addon called psp console, I immediately uninstalled it and the game no longer had that annoying behavior

So the addons that you download from workshop will never be able to hack you. In Gmod as example, these "viruses" can do harm like deleting your "data" folder, and all the dupes, pac3 and other things with that. But that's pretty much the only irreversible thing it can do, which you can just avoid by backups of your data sometimes. In short - no, it can't hack you, and will never will, because any backdoor in workshop is backdoor in steam servers
I don't know if it's a real virus that can destroy your PC, but frankly, I REALLY WANT TO TEST IT, it looks really good! (if it's not a virus of course)
