As an unhoused person, I have to say that Greg Boyle is the only person who speaks in a way that makes me feel like a worthwhile human being. People in my situation so badly need a leader who SEES us in this way and shows us tenderness. We are in desperate need of this kind of leadership of kinship and building community.

Once you know the God of love, you fire all the gods you knew! Brilliantly spiritual ... AND practical. Awesome!

This is very well done. Loved all the questions - especially the last one! And how beautiful that he said Sergio - his spiritual director, past gang member.

Father describes the Divine I know, and I pray that others realize that God lives within them, through them, and everywhere present.

One of the best and smartest interviews with Fr. Greg I've ever seen. If you're already familiar with Fr. Greg's work, this brought new insight from him, especially his thoughts on the current pandemic which I was curious about. Thank you!

"How do we find the thorn underneath?"
Excellent!! That's what people who want to "help" just can't get themselves to. "Bad temper" is a language of pain. I've done a lot of work on myself, so I can say clearly what is happening to me and what I need. I get ignored, brushed off or criticized. What about people who don't yet know what is happening, what their thorn is, let alone how to express it? Until "helpers" are willing to look more closely at themselves and drop their fears and judgements, those thorns will continue to fester! There needs to be the awareness of humility, or they can't possibly find that those thorns. So the homies are much wiser than most "helpers". Now I'm laughing from the belly! 😄😄😄😄

Does it have to be one or. Can't it be one and. Priest and social worker. But if we had to ask him he may say neither. It's more your vision.

Dear brothers and sisters of the streets, are we really tough and cool when we bash or kill our brothers and sisters in the other gang? It might seem so but really we are just young silly homies. I have walked in your shoes, now I ask you to walk in mine. Put down your knives and guns, pick up the cross and rosary or the Quran. This fight won’t get you killed. It will save your lives brothers and sisters. But you need courage and heart. Putting down your weapons is strength. Come with open hands. This is real power homies. Peace Love

He doesn't need a prop, or what could be interpreted as a shield, to authentically and sincerely do God's work.
