To preach an end to the disposability of human lives and to encourage "delighting in people" is Fr. Greg Boyle's meat and drink. Through two decades of healing a broken, gang-ridden area in Los Angeles, Boyle has loved and lost -- namely, the young lives he has reached. Boyle, a Jesuit priest and founder of gang intervention program Homeboy Industries joins Krista Tippett, producer and host of American Public Media's "On Being," for a discussion on turning inspiration into action.

I was present for this inspiring event, but find myself compelled to listen again and again. Father Boyle's reminder that we are more than the worst thing we ever did resonates with me, though my failures haven't registered on the social map that many of these young people have navigated. I want to hold Father Boyle's words and mission before my third eye vision every day.

In mid 2010 a LA Times article stated that Homeboy Industries was forced to lay off most of their employees. This was mentioned in the article due to improper operational cost planning. In this video, Fr. G, you mentioned that you now have 300 employees two years later. How did this happen? Did you get additional charitable contributions or were you able to generate earnings from the services Homeboy offers? in other words, is your operation sustainable? Hope you c this and can respond.
