  • Tutorial on how to do Quiltworx Judy Niemeyer's curved paper piecing. Also known as "adding a vein". In this video, I demonstrate how to prepare a small foundation paper piecing unit for the curved paper piecing process - then demo how to sew and trim the units so they are ready to be added to the quilt.

    Michael, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! you made something that I was having problems with much clearer! I met you once briefly at a Friends of Judy, at Stitchin Heaven and I now plan on taking more classes from you I'm just South of Ft. Worth so probably at Quilt Country. I started (1.5 years ago) and I'm still working on my first Judy quilt (Paradise in Bloom) also it's my first real foundation paper piecing project. I mostly worked on it in my 1st class and then 3 friends of Judy retreats (Thank God for Tina and Sandra and their truck loads of patience) and I'm just now feeling like I can work on it at home without having an instructor standing close to help. Please keep of the videos, they are very clear to me! thanks again, Liz

    I have to ask: what does TRP mean?

    • @michael.quilts
      @michael.quilts  18 днів тому

      TRP's are Registration Points. Sometimes referred to as Transitional Registration Points or Transitional Reference Points. If you have ever done garment sewing, they are like the notches in patterns that act at matching points. Hope this helps.

      @@michael.quilts Ah! Thank you! I understood their function immediately, but simply could not figure out what the letters might stand for.

    Starch Pen? Do you use it in regular patchwork also?

    • @michael.quilts
      @michael.quilts  8 місяців тому

      Yes! I had never used it prior to training as a Quiltworx certified instructor. But I have been using it for almost all my piecing since. The only time I find myself not using it is on very long seams - like attaching borders, etc. but I probably should. Gives a really nice flat finish.

    What pattern would you recommend for a beginning paper piecer.

    • @michael.quilts
      @michael.quilts  9 місяців тому

      There are quite a few beginner friendly patterns to choose from. If you would like to get used to the process with a block-based quilt - Maple leaf Flurries would be a good one. if you like something that is more in the medallion style, Pocket Compass might be a good one for you. Take a look at these to see if either look interesting to you.
