    This is ingenious! Thank you so much for sharing. I just ordered your lineminder. Quick question: you say at the beginning that you baste when you want to baste the whole quilt. Do you do this for custom work only or also for edge 2 edge quilting??? TIA

    • @michael.quilts
      @michael.quilts 9 днів тому

      Thanks for your comment! I fully bast all of my custom quilts. I only fully bast edge to edge quilts if they are very large and I think I am goig to have any waviness in them towards the bottom. Otherwise I just baste the top, then baste the sides as I move down the quilt with each pass.

    I have to ask: what does TRP mean?

    • @michael.quilts
      @michael.quilts 16 днів тому

      TRP's are Registration Points. Sometimes referred to as Transitional Registration Points or Transitional Reference Points. If you have ever done garment sewing, they are like the notches in patterns that act at matching points. Hope this helps.

    My partner bought this set a couple of months ago and this is the first video I've watched where you use the templates. We've had a sit-down longarm for awhile, and just picked up a stand up longarm and frame. I am thinking about using these templates on my first quilt. I just had a thought about the design of the templates (forgive me, but I do a bunch of 3D printing and CNC hobby stuff and I think critically about these things.) I noticed you using the smaller rulers to travel along the previous 11 inch curve. Seems like you could split the bottom of all the tempates (except maybe the 3") so that half was straight as currently, and the other half was enough of an 11" curve to travel with. [Hard to explain with words...] Anyway, not a flaw as such - just an idea. Love your videos!

    Where is the lengthwise fold...on the inside of the box or the outside?

    • @michael.quilts
      @michael.quilts 8 місяців тому

      It doesn't make a difference how you start with them. In the video I see that mine are not all consistent. What you will find when you are finished is that the star points all have a double fold on the inside, no matter how you start and the outside of the star points do not have a fold.

      Yes! I had never used it prior to training as a Quiltworx certified instructor. But I have been using it for almost all my piecing since. The only time I find myself not using it is on very long seams - like attaching borders, etc. but I probably should. Gives a really nice flat finish.

      Good point! I probably was not even thinking about it when I filmed this a few years ago. I see that some of mine that I have made are not consistent, but if I were to film this again, I would probably put the double folds facing inside as I arrange the strips into the square "hashtag" formation. However, the final product really looks fine however they land - perhaps more professional looking though if you are mindful of that fold. Good tip! Thank You!

    So did you change feet when you were doing your pebbling? Also I’ve noticed that a lot of you professionals use a hopping foot with your ruler work instead of a ruler foot. I would love to do that as well because I see the value in the extra visibility however I’m scared of messing up my foot or ruler using the hopping foot. Can you please give some pointers on what to watch for? I love the instruct you give. I use your 12” straight ruler for most of my lines and have both sets of your Baptist Fans but have not used them yet. Thank you for all you do for the quilting community. Love to watch you quilt.

    • @michael.quilts
      @michael.quilts 9 місяців тому

      Hi Jan. I leave my ruler foot on 95% of the time I am quilting. The other 5% is when I switch to the cup foot for stitching out with computer. However - I did switch to my open toe hopping foot for doing some of the free motion quilting on this quilt, but that is not typical of me. I guess I got used to free motion quilting with the ruler foot on and just prefer doing it that way. But I never use the regular hopping foot with rulers. It may look like it in this video, but my ruler foot is actually attached while I am doing ruler work. My ruler foot has a small cut out in front for some added visibility, but it's still the full wall ruler foot everywhere except that very front part. This is Innova's standard ruler foot. Hope this helps! Happy Quilting! Thank You - Michael
