Thank you! That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out! I stupidly agreed to update the bathroom cabinet hinges in my parents new home, before seeing them in person. Turns out they’re face frame cabinets with a partial inset, partial overlay door. I didn’t know this style was called lipped, and when I described the doors to cabinetry “experts” at multiple big box stores, they told me the cabinetry I was describing didn’t exist and therefore they couldn’t recommend a concealed hinge. 🙄 Looking around here on youtube I was starting to go crazy because nobody spoke of or demonstrated a cabinet style like what I was working with. It’s validating to see others have indeed struggled as well. I ended up building out the wall so the cabinet box acted like it was frameless for the purpose of hinge selection. I still don’t know if there was a better way.
I wound up using Salice lipped door hinges. They make a variety of different height base plates. I measured and ordered accordingly and the job came out perfect! Customer service for this stuff is almost non-existent; I did a lot of searching to find what I needed.
@@Woodworkerexpress that is the hinge that goes between the bi-fold doors, I am look for the hinge that attaches the bi-fold doors to the frameless base corner cabinet
Thanks for the great video! Regarding an inset application with a face-frame cabinet, would using an inset hinge with a 0mm inset face frame base plate work?
Thank you. I've been trying to understand exactly how much coverage the full overlay hinges provided and I'd been wondering about how to adjust that with the baseplates or hardwood shims to accomplish the same end.
At 4:22 is the base plate supposed to hang off the frame? It appears to be a frameless base plate which is meant to be flush with the side of the cabinet yet, the manufacturer just doesn't care things being pulled out of the cabinet might get hung up on the hinge?... Doesn't seem to be purpose built, just "whatever"?
Good evening. Im trying to replace a mepla acc 140 hinge on a face frame cabinet with a 1-1/8 over lay. What do you recommend? Been trying for 2 months now
You bet! You just need these 2 parts- www.woodworkerexpress.com/blum-110deg-compact-33-hinge-cup-only-dowel--base-plates-sold-separately.html and www.woodworkerexpress.com/blum-110deg-compact-33-side-mount-face-frame-plate-1-1-8-overlay.html
I’m having a hard time understanding the difference between full overlay, half overlay and inset. I’m trying to replace a hinge and I’m not sure if it’s half overlay or inset.
We always try our best in making sure that the customer orders the correct items. Most all blum hinges are compatible with most all blum base plates for example. Did you have a specific problem?
some examples with real cabinets/doors would be helpful for those of us visually oriented. thanks.
How does one choose a European style concealed hinge for a Lipped door(having both 9mm inset and 9mm overlay) on a face frame cabinet?

Is there a combination of long arm hinges and moving the door cup that would allow overlay on face frame cabinets?
You can use the long arm hinge with a winged baseplate
