    Hi Dj Daryl, i just ran into your video and it's a fantastic comprison. I would like to add a comment for the Prime 4 unit that you have very well explained. There's a little thing your public need's to know. Soundswitch ain't a free aspect of your light controler feature. You have to program your fixtures to make it work well and it mean's that you have to subscribe to soundswitch for that. You also need a laptop to ensure your configurations before you take this out for a gig. Don't get me wrong.. the unit is a perfect machine for your mobile DJ. I just want the viewers to be aware of that spec that ain't mentionned annywhere when you buy this unit. In conclusion, i'd say this is something to consider with a think about it if you buy it for the soundswitch aspect. (The soundswitch is not that expensive but for a wedding DJ it has to be cheap to make your pricing competitve.) Beside's the monthly fee with soundswitch.. you have at least a month of free subscription that give's you time to programm your lighting fixtures. Thanks again for your advices!

    I started off Gigging with a laptop + Pioneer DDJ-400 then upgraded to a denon prime go and I'm really happy with it.
    Trying to learn to do lighting with Soundswitch and the standalone denon unit has been really difficult but your videos have been some of the most helpful by far.
    I think there's not enough quality tutorials out there covering the basics of Soundswitch and Engine lighting and you could help a lot of mobile DJs with a unit like the Prime 4+.

      I've never tried a Prime Go but I've head nothing but good things about me. I'd consider getting one as a backup or something for small gigs but I like the functionality of my Prime 4. I actually had a Prime 2 originally and switched to a Prime 4 when I wanted the 4 channels and larger screen.

    Prime 4 plus would be my choice. The folks at Denon are doing a great job with Engine DJ. I have been using my Denon SC Live 4 for about a year and there are software improvements very often. This equipment could also be a good option since it is cheaper and lighter than the Prime. At first I didn't like that the SC had speakers but now I use it a lot to test my mixes without having to rely on external equipment. I recommend it 100%.

    Just replaced DDJ SX3 w/Rane 4. Deciding factors: designed for Serato including stems, simple and clean layout, split cue, limted plastic yet light weight, lots of inputs/outputs, no power brick. Used at 2 events. Very impressed.

    • @DJDarylBennett
      @DJDarylBennett  10 місяців тому

      What a beast of a setup! While I don't doubt it's awesome, I'm personally looking for something a little more portable for mobile gigs.

    • @steveoneil7028

      I got a pair of SC6000Ms a few years ago to go with my Pioneer DJM750 mkII mixer. Absolutely love those SC6000Ms and any time I use CDJ3000s now it seems like a big downgrade in comparison. However, right around the time I got them, I started doing a lot more mobile gigs so I wanted more portability. My case with the 2 decks and mixer inside is big and heavy.
      I love the Denon decks so much that I got a Prime 2 and that was a very nice unit for mobile gigs. After it served me well for a while I decided I wanted the extra functionality of a Prime 4 and got one. It's hands down the best all-in-one deck on the market currently. I haven't upgraded to a Prime 4+ basically because I don't need to. One of the great things about Denon is that they frequently release software updates that don't just fix bugs like other brands. They regularly add entirely new features. So a four year old Prime 4 with the latest software updates is only minimally different from a brand new Prime 4+. In that way, Denon do a very good job of future proofing their gear and I've noticed that a lot of their updates seem based on feedback and suggestions from their forums. And recently adding soundswitch to my Prime 4 has been a massive gamechanger for me. Being able to have such control over my lights from the same screen I use for my music without even needing a laptop. Brilliant!

    I learnt DJayinng on twin CD players in 2000 (the Denon DN-1800F to be specific). Sometimes you would go to a booth with a different brand and faulty system eg cue button dead and all you had was the play/pause. But you had to quickly find a way of DJaying on this... So i get shocked when i hear people say, it is hard to learn this or that DJ software. Like really...

      --- Disclaimer: This is a translation. My tone in these remarks may not be appropriate. I apologize, it is not my intention to create controversy. ---
      I've only been using it professionally as a DJ for events for a year. I've never had doubts about its functionality, but undoubtedly the system needs improvement.
      For example, I recently accidentally deleted a folder, and there's no way to recover that information or to undo the action.
      A recommendation for those starting with Engine DJ: make a backup before closing the program.
      Engine DJ improves with each update, and its evolution is very positive for professional use. I'm sure we can agree on that, right, fellow?"

      To be honest I was nervous about switching to Denon after roughly 20 years of using CDJs (with the last half of that using Rekordbox). Turned out I was worried over nothing. Denon imported my Rekordbox library with no hassle. I still maintain my Rekordbox library for when I do club gigs with CDJs. I know there's software that can keep engine and rekordbox synchronised but it has a lot of functionality I don't need and is pretty expensive for what little I would use it for.
      When I first started using Engine, it was pretty clunky and there were many areas where I thought Rekordbox was better but since then, Denon have made massive improvements while Rekordbox has hardly changed at all in the same time.

    if you value portability, denon prime go is a no brainer, I do all my weddings with it also has the ability to control lightning, all in the same place.. nothing like that in the market. The downside is that it's not as appealing as the one's you mention

      I've thought about the prime go for ceremonies, it looks awesome! It may be a little too compact for my main controller... Haha

  • @steveoneil7028
    @steveoneil7028 8 місяців тому

    Denon Prime 4 hands down. If it had rotating platters (like on the Denon SC6000M or Rane One) it would be the perfect deck for me because apart from that is has everything I could possibly want in a DJ deck. Only when you've spent time using one do you truly appreciate just how amazing the feature set is.
    I have one and it's superb with soundswitch. Not needing a laptop for either DJing or controlling lights, yet still having such an impressive array of functionality. It beats the pants off anything Pioneer currently has out including the Opus which costs twice as much for less functionality (and looks kinda tacky too in my opinion).
    If I was going to use a laptop with my setup then I'd go with a Rane One (I do love those platters), but I've tried using a laptop with a controller / DVS vinyl and really didn't like it. After years of using either vinyl turntables or CDJs I just couldn't get in to having everything on a laptop off to the side.
