My 58 year old female self (along with a strong teenage boy for lifting in/out) was able to follow along and successfully fix my microwave!!!!! I could not have figured this out without this AWESOME video. Sincere GRATITUDE and APPRECIATION!!!!
Thank you for the useful video. My kitchenaid microwave door button stopped working and your video was very instructive in how to disassemble and fix the problem. The mounting notch on one side snapped off on my microwave, which I JB-Welded back into place. 2 days in the repair is holding well.
Thank you so much for this video. It was very thorough and helpful. We were going to call a repairman; but instead it cost us less than $15.00 to get our Kitchenaid Microwave fixed. Thank you, thank you, thank you,
This man obviously knows what he's talking about. He is very handy and clear in his direction. He has the proper tools and knowledge to complete this task and his directions are impeccable. Unfortunately , His skill set is way beyond mine but I am grateful to actually find a video of such quality that actually address the problem. Thank you sir and go in peace and good health.
Thanks a bunch. I was shopping new microwaves and trim kits (wanted stainless) and the total was getting over $600. I decided that black microwave and trim kit was alright with me and stumbled upon your video with the exact same microwave. $11 later its fixed. On Amazon search
Thanks very much for this video!!! We managed to change the part -- not quite as easily as you did -- but we got it accomplished!!! Saved a bundle on a repair bill -- they wanted over $200 for a service call. We paid $25 for the part and it now works!!! Hooray!!!
That was great. I been looking for an hour to find something like this for another oven. This is what I guessed. I am at part when I take off casing. And was worried. This should help a LOT Thanks again
Great video. We just bought an old house that has the exact same model. my door latch broke on the white hinge like part. Whirlpool said they won't sell the part as this requires a skilled technician to review. Tried superglue and put the part back.. worked like charm. Anyways.. ordered replacement part from amazon while the interim fix has been working perfectly fine. Saved me 80$ on the service call+ parts extra!! thanks!!
Great video! We have the same microwave in white and the door latch broke exactly the same as yours. Thanks to this video, we got it swapped out in just a few minutes. And thanks to Scott Sheffield in the comments for posting the link to the part on Amazon.
Thanks! I have the same model in stainless. My door latch was also broken, however mine was broken on the black eyelet and not the white part. The eyelet failed at the face plate so I epoxy'd it back and will see if it holds. Great video and super easy to understand!
Thanks so much for posting this, just saved us from having to buy a new one! it was a little intimidating at first, but really was easy, had it done less than 20 mins and put back together.
No one laughs at ingenuity! They might laugh with you for the “eureka” moment when said ingenuity works & you can say “victory is mine”, but humor is always best! Plus, it’s called “mcguyvering” when you just use whatever may work that’s laying around!lol (There’s other terms too, but “mcguyvering” sounds better!) This video has probably helped many many people even if they don’t say it! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. Fixed my microwave by following exact method. Only diff is there is no gives on the protruding part of the hinge. Just have to force its way out by flexing it a bit. But it worked. Save me whole bunch of agony and $.
This worked for my Kitchen Aid microwave KCMS 1555R microwave as well. The exact same part 8205451 on Amazon. The part was broken exactly the same way as mentioned in the video. The part did not pop out that easily. The clamp was a little close and did not flex. Had to put some strength into it. Thank You so much.
Thanks for the video, well done! I got my door latch part from Amazon. I did not have to remove the silver vent piece that was attached to the microwave cabinet that vents vapors out on top, it just came right off with cabinet. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for this! It saved me time trying to figure out what I needed to remove next. I ended up drilling a small hole where the broken peg was and putting a small sheet metal screw there (point facing outwards). $15 is still too much for a piece of plastic lol. I think my fix will outlast the microwave anyway.
Excellent video. You mentioned a special bit to remove the screws - a "Torx 20"? Will a standard flat head or phillips head screwdriver work? If I need the special one, where can I get it?
My microwave is Whirlpool Gold GT4175SP stainless, not sure if it's the same model but it seems it is. My issue is the door button can be pressed and popped out - not stuck there - but the main door won't open. Is that the same issue?
Ok so I have the exact same microwave and it’s not opening when I press the button it doesn’t get stuck in it comes back outdo you think it’s still the same problem
I'm having a similar problem with a Neff microwave, but I have a horrible feeling the part isn't now available. I may have to do a fix - maybe even with Lego!
Don't know if you'll see this Mr. Getler... We have the same microwave and need to replace a switch. Do I have to have to pull out the microwave and remove the back cover to get to these parts since it's a built in. Other microwaves have a front screw that let you take off the front control panel. I don't want to go to this trouble if I don't have to. Would appreciate your advice. Great video -- if I have to remove the back panel, you've given me great instruction.
Thank you for sharing, you are the man. Checked prices to replaced microwave, they are freaking expensive!(ours is built-in just like the one showed on the video but white) Anyway, the latch part # is: 8205451 , check amazon, 16 bucks! I just ordered 20, they may not have it on stock. Just kidding. Easy to replace.
You made that looks so easy. Our microwave has been un plugged for a month. Do you think it’s safe? I’ll check the voltage. Thanks for the video. It’s not easy trying to find our size microwave.
Sure appreciate the informative video. My KitchenAid KCMS2055SSS has the same internals and part requirement. Surprisingly the part was cheapest on Amazon and delivered in 2 days.
Would you have any advice on how to modify the door and/or latch to make it easier to open? The push button on ours requires a lot of force to get it to open and it's a problem for my aging mother (85) who has arthritis. I find that even for myself, sometimes it becomes a chore to open it. She's bugging me to replace it with another unit that has a door handle, but it's tricky finding a built-in model that is suitable. Modifying the latch seems like a good way to go, but I'm not sure what would be the right approach.
Hi❣️ thanks for your video, I have another type microwave by Cuisinart, but my button pops out just doesn’t release the door, it’s not even a year old yet 😡, but why I am posting is to let you know the torx bits with the tit in the middle are called “security” bits❣️ I’m not trying to be negative at all just helpfully saying that they are different than torx bits 😁😘👍🏻 Now I have to go buy me some😆❣️ awesome video too thank you💖💖 BTW- did you reinforce the ear that broke? What if it does it again? I would so save the one you fixed 😁
DO NOT BUY WHIRLPOOL MICROWAVES!!! it's the only microwave that won't recognize the door is open/shut for THREE different design failures. There's the dozen sensors around the door that need to be wiped clean, theres the white latch that holds the door and there's the black sensor that burns out.

Thanks! Your video saved our bacon in our 3 year old built in microwave! Much appreciated
This piece of our microwave broke yesterday. I found your video, ordered the part, and we were able to fix it today! Thank you so much!
Glad I could help!
Best fix-it tutorial I've ever watched.

Awesome. Thanks for letting me know it helped you. Please pay it forward and help someone else.
THANK YOU!! Not sure what part of our door latch is broken, but you just saved us a ton! Thanks for teaching us how to "get in"!
Thanks very much for this video!!! We managed to change the part -- not quite as easily as you did -- but we got it accomplished!!! Saved a bundle on a repair bill -- they wanted over $200 for a service call. We paid $25 for the part and it now works!!! Hooray!!!
This was EXACTLY the problem I had and the repair sequences were perfect for correcting it.
That was great. I been looking for an hour to find something like this for another oven. This is what I guessed. I am at part when I take off casing. And was worried. This should help a LOT Thanks again

Fantastic video. Very clear. You win the Internet, today.

This is my problem too. I decided to buy a new one instead
Well, Whirpool microwave owner's are just so nice! I am glad the video is helpful to so many people. Happy microwaving.
Thank you for an excellent tutorial...including how to remove a built-in unit! I think we can do this now.
Thanks so much for posting this, just saved us from having to buy a new one! it was a little intimidating at first, but really was easy, had it done less than 20 mins and put back together.

This was perfect! Thank you!. We just need the new button part and the torque 20 bit! Easy Peasy!
Thank you so much for this video. Fixed my microwave by following exact method. Only diff is there is no gives on the protruding part of the hinge. Just have to force its way out by flexing it a bit. But it worked.

Excellent!
Thanks, following this made it super easy. I was pessimistic about popping it back into place but it went in easily.

Dude thanks I got to quit pounding on that button. Found a blue star part for 11 bucks on Amazon way better than a new microwave
You repair video shows was exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Thanks! Everything you said was right and now my whirlpool opens again! Thanks! again and good video and explanation. The part was $15.00
Do you remember the part #? THANK YOU in advance.
@@tanhelmet did you ever find the part no?
Love the lego solution - very ingenious!
Thanks for the video, well done! I got my door latch part from Amazon. I did not have to remove the silver vent piece that was attached to the microwave cabinet that vents vapors out on top, it just came right off with cabinet. Thanks again!
Your welcome Kirk. Glad you did not have to take off the vent.

Excellent! I replaced mine just now. Thanks for posting.
Thanks! Was able to repair my microwave thanks to you!
It was wonderful decision about Lego repair, as long as it worked why not to do it this way! :-) Thank you for the video! You are the man!
Thank you. Your fix worked very well for me.
Thanks! Got it ordered and back in business 2 days later. 👍👌
Excellent video. You mentioned a special bit to remove the screws - a "Torx 20"? Will a standard flat head or phillips head screwdriver work? If I need the special one, where can I get it?
Excellent and exactly what I needed. Well done. Thanks.
where did you get the part please let me know thanks this video is very helpful
Thank You so much for sharing. You saved my day!
Thanks so much for the video. My microwave is similar enough that the instructions were perfect.
My microwave is Whirlpool Gold GT4175SP stainless, not sure if it's the same model but it seems it is. My issue is the door button can be pressed and popped out - not stuck there - but the main door won't open. Is that the same issue?
Do you have the link for the replacement part? Thanks
Awsome video !Mine just broke !This is what I will be doing on my day off lol
There's another part on my microwave thats broke. So I do need to get a new one unfortunately, can I get a countertop one instead?
Ok so I have the exact same microwave and it’s not opening when I press the button it doesn’t get stuck in it comes back outdo you think it’s still the same problem
What broke on ours is the black pin thing on the door. The bottom one. What do we do now.? Please help.
I'm having a similar problem with a Neff microwave, but I have a horrible feeling the part isn't now available. I may have to do a fix - maybe even with Lego!
All the likes must be the people you helped.

Thank you so much! Fantastic patch. Great idea!!! One less Lego to stick in the bottom of my foot! 😂😂
Awesome reverse engineering.
Do you remember the part #### ?
Thank You
You made that looks so easy. Our microwave has been un plugged for a month. Do you think it’s safe? I’ll check the voltage. Thanks for the video. It’s not easy trying to find our size microwave.
Yes, I think it is very safe. You can do it! No problems.
anyone know what the part number or actual piece is called
Do you happen to have the model number of this one?? The model number of the microwave itself? thanks!!!!
great instruction. Thank you for making this video.
Brian, you are a gentleman. You are more than welcome.
Great! Thanks for posting.
Sure appreciate the informative video. My KitchenAid KCMS2055SSS has the same internals and part requirement. Surprisingly the part was cheapest on Amazon and delivered in 2 days.
Thanks for the video, saved us some serious $$
Awesome! Thank you very much!

Thank you!
You are awesome ...thanks for the video
Excellent job
Now I don’t have to make a UA-cam video for my repair.
😆
Save my butt! Thank you.
Never showed that the door worked/opened after replacing the part.
You're going to have to trust me on this one. Good luck!
dat lego hack tho - #golden

Thanks for the vid. Modern appliances are absolute sh*t.
Thank you!
