Such a beautiful soul. Rest in peace, wonderful girl. You understood the world, but the world did not understand you. So sad that you're passed away. Absolutely heartbreaking.
You are correct, the world is diminished today. Hearing her sing this song is so poignant. Sinead, if you ever can read this, I am so very sorry for what you went through, you deserved so much better. We are shedding tears today not just for you but for what the world has lost. A true diamond in the world's sea of mediocrity. She does real justice to Ralph's great song.
I loved her talent. But, no, she did not understand the world. She struggled with mental illness, and clearly didn't understand the world. That's not being disrespectful. It's just being honest. She was a unique and wonderful singer. But we don't need to make a saint of her. Pretty sure she'd hate that.
@@squirrelbutler2119 oh she absolutely understood the world. She knew what the horrors this world does to people and she set out to try to change the wrongs of this world. Having a mental illness never means you don't understand. She exposed the ugliness yet people didn't understand her not her not understanding the world. No one will out icon or be a better human than sinead. She won me over in 1987. She was the truth.
Hearing this now, knowing she is gone has got me in a flood of tears.😪🥀💔 Sinéad's pure angelic voice always had a way of penetrating right through the soul. Forever in our hearts.🕊️🙏🏽💘
Ralph McTell, who wrote this song, is quoted as saying this is his favorite version of his song due to the emotion in Sineads voice when she recorded it
This is the first time I've heard her sing this song and it's beautiful, coming from a support worker who helps the homeless and I also work seven days a week helping the homeless god bless you all 🙏🙏
Heartbroken Sinead has gone. I've been a fan throughout her career. Every song Sinead covered is better than the original in my opinion. There never has and never will be anyone who can sing so beautifully as Sinead.
This song is chillingly haunting if you listen to it properly. The haunting facts that people seem to forget them below us. Memories fading with the medals in his chest. Best line in any song I've heard in a long time.
What a beautiful song and an angels voice. These pictures of Sinead are so beautiful and I'm going to try and buy all of them. What a troubled soul. Rip you kind soul.
over the years ive heard different versions of this song some good some bad (some really bad) but this version by sinead o conner is awsome her voice is incredible, thank you so much for posting this song.
Nemo here. This is a wonderful song, Brilliantly Performed. Miss Sinead O'Conner and all the People involved in the Project of recording this song should be very Pleased and Proud. It's no exaggeration to call it a Masterpiece. Best Regards, nemo. NTF:ed
such a beautiful wonderful lady, was proud to of met her, we had a ciggie and shared a joke, met her during a photo shoot i was doing, went outside for a break and ciggie, next thing i knew sinead stood next to me asking for a light please, she was so funny and gentle, so sweet, yeah she was sweet, beautiful heart and soul, miss her now, she helped me with some personal stuff i was going through, she stayed in contact with me for ages, she really helped me out with mental health issues i have, still have now with no one to turn too, no family, sad to be alone in this world of online chat.still havent got anyone to help me broken britain for sure...god bless xxx
Wonderful! What a memory. I saw her live in NYC at City Winery 2013! Once she glanced in my direction (she often kept her eyes shut when singing) and I felt blessed. Going to Dublin soon, to her home and gravesite: perhaps I will "stretch on her grave and lie there forever."
Have followed Sinead from Mandinka to now and she is precious the most beautiful haunting vocal god bless and carry on covering and improving almost perfect tunes in your way amazing

Written by Ralph McTell in 1968 or 69, but sung so much more emotively by this beautiful Irish songstress in her signature haunting style. I just wish she had continued for another 60-90 seconds to include the final verse... "And have you seen the old man Outside the Seamen's Mission Memory fading with The medal ribbons that he wears? In our winter city The rain cries a little pity For one more forgotten hero And a world that doesn't care..."
She didn't care about the money then, and she doesn't care about it now. No matter whether you like her, you can't take this from her: she is a winner in a world of losers. Streets of London - Sinead O'Connor
This song is inspirational, it puts life in to reality, I urge every one to give something to the poor, you know, a smile or kind word would do it, maybe a quid. light and peace people.... x
Her death broke my heart , She was the crush of then a teenage boy , her voice just pulling you in, her face so angelic, and her demeanour so bad ass .. RIP Sinead , I hope that you find your peace .
Very beautiful women and very memorable voice, very underrated and hasn't had the recognition she deserves.most know of sinead from the written prince( your in heaven now prince thanks for all you've done towards the music industry, you were taken too soon) song nothing compares, but sinead has more than just this song that takes your breathe away and put a tear in your eye.
I haven’t been listening to much to this gem of late Then when she passed I really got interested again and now I realize how much I have missed her music her outstanding talent So now I am trying to gather her best music etc before I pass on
Amore a te ❤
Just checked out the Troggs live in '07...they still sound great. Thanks for the reminder of this great band. Now onto the Syndicate of Sound...or Music Machine.

Definitely one of the most magic voices in the world, and perfect for a song like this! Beautiful!
Ralph McTell, who wrote this song, is quoted as saying this is his favorite version of his song due to the emotion in Sineads voice when she recorded it
Thank you that is lovely to know. I hope Sinead knew he said that.
I saw Ralph McTell sing this in the crypt at St Martin's- never though anyone could come close to that - but this is very moving.
@@carolynnilsen9270definitely, a truth teller RIP & Shane ❤
I have only just heard this version, and I have to say, Sinead has done this song proud, the interpretation is beautiful.

Absolutely beautiful. We are fortunate to have experienced such wonderful talent . RIP Sinead.
Listening to Sinead's voice in this song is like being touched by the wing of an angel.
Like Sinead or not, a very real lady, does not suffer fools, and a voice to die for. You do this wonderful song justice. Bless you always.
Bless you, Sinead, May you? and Shane rest in peace. You will never be forgotten
A fantastic version of a great song. Simply wonderful.
Her voice with this melody is highkey haunting. Wow. Its like a beautiful lullaby that I need to be on a loop for literal eternity please and thanks.
This is a stunning version, she has such beauty in her voice, such restraint, love it.
She is a trained singer she will always stand out and shine

A fragile, warm hearted human being with a wonderful talent. May she rest in peace.
Sinead is in a league all of her own, pure magic. Wish you peace, special lady.

Tu laisses un vide énorme Sinead, tu aimais beaucoup cette chanson ! je l'écoute avant de dormir et je pense très fort à toi.
Have you seen the old man in the closed down market
Picking up the papers with his worn out shoes
In his eyes you see no pride
hand held loosely at his side
Yesterday's paper, telling yesterday's news
So how can you tell me you're lonely
and say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
and lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind
Have you seen the old girl who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags
She's no time for talking
she just keeps right on walking
Carrying her home,in two carrier bags
So how can you tell me you're lonely
and say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
and lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind
In the all night cafe ,at a quarter past eleven
Same old man sitting there on his own
Looking at the world over the rim of his tea-cup
each tea lasts an hour
and he wanders home alone
So how can you tell me that you're lonely
and say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
and lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind
I'll show you something to make you change your mind
Thank you so much for you kind snd useful comment!
This version brings buckets of tears to my eyes. RIP
Very well done version of one of the most beautiful songs ever.
