A few years back I was pheasant hunting with my biggest client. He was walking the field and I was blocking. A rooster flies up but stays pretty low just above my client’s head. The guy next to me says, “Shoot! Shoot the bird!” I took my gun down from my shoulder and said, “Who do I look like, Dick Cheney?”
A bunch of us guys went deer hunting up nort here in Minnesota. Four of us had our guns cased and in the back of a pickup truck as we were moving to a new location. One older guy, with a lifetime of hunting experience, had cased his gun loaded, cocked and safety off. We later surmised that his mind was wearing out. The shotgun with slugs discharged while traveling down a gravel road. The slug blew though the end of the case, through the pickup box, through the back of the cab, through the back of the seat (the part you sit on), and into a pair of crumpled up insulated coveralls, where it came to rest. Lucky it did as with four us in there, the front of the seat was almost solid legs. The most serious damage was probably the coveralls which had four holes in them.
Yeah he emphasis it for his comedy, but he has it. It probably varies quite a bit on who he's talking to as well. If he talks to someone from the Bay, you bet it would come on a little stronger.

That is similar to numerous incidents where people have shot their own vehicles. Loaded firearms inside vehicles is a recipe for disaster. However, a good friend of mine definitely outdid you. He went out deer hunting on a motorcycle. He parked the bike and wandered off into the woods. Around noon, he gave up and walked back to his bike and when he exited the woods, there was a nice buck about 50 yds. away, right beside his motorcycle. He had a perfect broadside for him so he raised up and shot. The bullet went through the deer...and through the gas tank of the motorcycle. He had to walk 2 miles to the nearest house to call for help (no cell phones back then). It was over an hour before his dad arrived with the truck. His dad was slightly angry about the situation. He had bought his son that bike for his 16th. birthday. The gas tank was replaced and his dad sold the bike.
@@oleyholmes1989 Be suspicious all you want. Back then ( early 70's), I occasionally went deer hunting on my motor cycle as well. I was only successful one time and it was a pain in the butt to load the deer up on the bike, but definitely not impossible. We're not talking about full dress Harleys or some form of crotchrocket. We're talking dirt bikes or street/trail bikes. Mine was a 1970 SL Honda 350 with a makeshift luggage rack. Field dress the deer, load it up, and go.

Although there are some large deer there, the average size field dressed deer was probably around 100-120 lbs. Even a deer that size was a chore to get loaded on a bike of any description. Over the years, I have killed some deer in Ark. and where I currently live in Georgia, that have presented a problem loading onto a cart designed to haul deer, either by hand or by an ATV, that would have been impossible to haul out on a motorcycle.
Lesson learned: Never do anything so dumb that you're forced to buy a Dodge Caravan. (I know a guy who accidentally torched his own pickup truck when he tossed a burning cigarette butt out the window. The wind blew it into the truck bed & set tarps & cans of paint thinners on fire. My son Nick borrowed the mini van to take some friends to an event, sorry, not a comedy show. When he came in that night, he informed me he had smashed nearly the entire passenger side of the new mini van. I always taught my kids, if you screw up, just tell me, be honest, wait for the room temperature to drop about 100 degrees and we'll calmly discuss the problem. "So Nick, what the hell did you hit?" "I'm so sorry dad, it hit your truck! " Geez, cripes almighty!!!!
