@@cathystewart4676 you do know the army used the wrong propellant in the 5.56 ammo used in the m16 giving the m16 a bad name. Also they didn’t have a chrome plated chamber which allowed corrosion problems. Maybe learn more before talking.
My hat is off to you, Mr. Miculek. I just got my first AR after Dianne Feinstein said she wanted to take away my right to have one. I've been having fun with it ever since. You have made an art out of shooting it! Best wishes to you!
This guy is awesome! Very knowledgeable. I've learned more from this one video than I have on 50 other similar videos. Glad I found it. Thanks for all the great information!
My first ar15 and it’s the sport 2 as well but in OD green MOE magpul furniture. Also came with 3 mags,2 which are magpul pmags, and 1 GI aluminum style mag. Came loaded with green tip, hollow points, and black polymer tip rounds. Also came with a sling, red dot, vertical foregrip,a bright green laser, and a flashlight. Paid 500 flat and even got to do it in payments so it definitely pays off to know the local retired sheriff’s son 😏. I trained on my ruger 10/22 with an archangel 556 ar conversion kit to get familiar with the ar platform. Super helpful. Picked up a Taurus g2c 9mm from rural king gun barn too last month. Now I feel better going to sleep at night with real fire power. Not just a 22. (Still love them and would rather have that than nothing) Much love bro!
True red blooded American right there. Would like to be his neighbor! I ordered my M&P 15 Sport 2 yesterday and am waiting like a child to get my hands on it. It will be my first rifle as I have always shot pistols and shotguns. We truly live in the greatest country to be able to exercise our rights as freely as we do!
Wow, this guy is like the definition of a "sport" shooter. I honestly had no idea there was much "sport" with the AR. This guy needs to be showcased to show the general public that there really is such a thing as "sport shooting". Seems like a nice dude who's dedicated to his passion.
When Jerry says "I can tell you're not happy" reminds me me of Bob Munden "well that was fast, but do you want to see really fast." Both stive for perfection.
I have been shooting all my life but I have learned so much from watching Jerry's video's thanks jerry keep up the good work u help us all with your info
Tony Tortellini w/out it and the deaths of many soldiers it wouldnt be where the AR platform has evolved today as the most reliable battle rifle of all time...
This was a really good introduction to AR platforms and protips for understanding your cartridge choices and the effects they have on the rifle. Very nice man, thanks.
thank you Jerry. I'm in the beginning stages of buying my first AR. This video really helped me know the basics. Research, so far, favors the M&P15 2. also appreciate the info on ammo aswee. thank you!

It is so awesome to see a nearly 60 yo man shooting and having fun like a kid. Blasting 2 liters, melons, cans of shaving cream, etc. Just great!!!! Nice shooting Mr. Miculek.
I looked at two examples today. They are surprisingly tight (no rattle) no gaps between upper and lower, barrel feed ramps don’t overhang on the upper, takedown pins are tight…for 799 bucks, you could a lot worse.
Jerry that carry handle was very convenient when carrying lot of weight and one did not have to lay the rifle down to pick up anything including a wounded brother. M-16 was pleasure to work with .
Just bought a Stag and it is my first AR, and boy am I excited! You are one hell of a shooter Jerry, some people were just born to look down that barrel and you are one of them. Loved seeing the evolution of the AR platform, very informative fun video, two thumbs up.
A guy who can drop you in half a second, make the shots fatal every time in double that time, and hit 9 different targets in 3 and a half seconds. AMAZING.
He is, but I'll tell you straight in my Military career i saw some guys who lived and breathed by "Skill at Arms", chiefly SF and specialist instructors at Firearms evaluation units. They wrote the doctorine and documents, those guys were truly incredible shots.
Can you imagine Jerry walking three the streets of Fallujah, he would need 2 ammo carriers, the battle would have gone alot faster and so many terrorists killed. Great job Jerry keep up the videos
Great shooting, always a pleasure to watch and learn from Jerry, a true national treasure in my opinion. I also get a kick out of it when the Cajun accent comes out, like when introducing the plate rack!
The original design had a forward assist on top and the guard was installed to protect it. It was not designed to be a carry handle. No many if any soldiers ever used it to carry as we always used the sling. I did use it a lot in my Deuce and 5 ton as the window hinge fit inside it and held my weapon nicely for easy access when needed... :)
A friend who went intoto basic training June 1990 and shipped out immediately after graduation said that they were not allowed to carry their weapon by the carry handle until the day that the ground war was won. They carried the weapon slung or tactically but never by the handle. Granted, the ground war was 101 hours but his Sgt was strict until victory was achieved.
I just got mine for $799 yesterday. I know I may have overpaid a little bit but I don’t even care , and it came with the magpul m-lock moe hand guard already on it and front and rear sights‼️
I got an M&P 15-22 when I was about 15 and it was stolen when I was about 18. They make 40 round mags for them and they work just as good as the 25 round mags
Those of us who were around in the old A1 days recall the rifle as a total horror, mainly because of the horrible sight adjustment mechanism and the spec'd ammo/rifling. Firing the 55 grain ball from the original A1 on a windy day was an exercise in frustration. When we adopted the A2 in the early Eighties THEN we had an incredible weapon that I would stake my life on without hesitation. Changing the rifling and going with the slightly heavier bullet made all the difference in the world.
The first ar I shot was a real m16 20in barrel and it shot different than my s&w ar it seemed like it had more power and much more smoother and accurate was way more badass than what we have now and didn't need earplugs rather
Great video Jerry. I love the first M16 A1 weapon. That is what I carried through basic training at Fort Knox, KY. 3/104th Armored Cavalry NJARNG and what our unit had back at the Armory in Riverdale, NJ. I actually had some problems with it jamming. It seemed like any small amount of dirt in the rifle would jam it up. That wasn't because the firearm wasn't kept clean because I think you know how the Drill Sergeants stayed on top of us for that. However, some of it could have been due to "operator error". I would love to own that same M16 now. Brings back memories. Thanks for all the good information you provide in your videos.
Of course, not a problem at all. Just keep within loading data and overall length consideration - shouldn't give you an ounce of trouble with the magazine. However, barrel twist rates greater than 1/8 *might* have trouble stabilizing it properly - but that's not universally the case and you could certainly try it in a 1/9 and see what your accuracy comes out to be.
Jerry Miculek lives in a different time plane! Hey Jerry, if you have trouble hearing the shot time while "double plugged" try this... there are several nylon PDA pouches for the military that will also fit timers. With a MALICE or even PALS you can rig the pouch up to your EarPro over the head strap. Most have open sides or tops allowing you to hit the run-gun button. Makes it convenient to reach up and hit the button and with it ON your head, you hear it even double plugged.
The A-max rounds are awesome, but when i go shooting ice, fruit, anything I'm looking for a hydraulic effect from i use the V-max. They are much more explosive than the A-max but less penetration.
