I still need to read Uprooted 😩 it’s been on my TBR forEVER

Uprooted was a little bit disappointing to me because the first maybe 1/3rd of the book was really good and really gripping, but as we get further into the story and more plot starts getting added, it felt very diluted to me, like it wasn’t that well thought out.
And I loved the Falconer when it was still pretty new, and I read the next 2 books right away and I was really disappointed. I felt like the first one was really fast-paced and then the next two really dragged, and I was bored.

Yeah I wasn't sure where Uprooted was going after a certain point.

@@thefaeriewilds it’s as if it had a point it was trying to make with the whole theme of putting roots down and such, but it wasn’t established very well and just felt arbitrary.

A "vaguley boring school setting" - ouch. 😅 100% agree on the Changeling! I had no idea it was a TV show now, too. Hope your June reading is go well!

Eeeee your intro is so pretty! And I just love your backdrop. So many pretty flowers everywhere and that painting!!
I was equally disappointed with An Education in Malice. I am absolutely obsessed with Carmilla (OBSESSEDDDDDD) after reading it this February and this was such a let down ugh. I had read two other creative retellings of the book right before and this one was the epitome of the “wah wah waaaaaaah” sound 😂 I DNFed it 25% in.
Ooo you would totally love alone Women by Victor LaValle. The kind of historical fiction that I love with a dash of supernatural and wonderfully diverse representation. It made my history teacher heart SO happy. And I cried at the end 🥲

Lone Women is on my must-read list for this year! I'm really excited for the historical setting :)

I was honestly surprised that I enjoyed An Education in Malice as much as I did (not quite 5 stars) because you're not wrong with your assessment 😆 But I think probably a big reason I did is that I didn't read the synopsis beforehand, that I can remember (it certainly didn't stick with me) and also because I read Carmilla a little bit before it and didn't really care for it oops!
Having the memory of a millipede with synopses is sometimes to my benefit 🤣

Yeah! It was a perfectly wonderful book with plenty to enjoy, I just couldn't get over how the synopsis lied to my face with no remorse lol!

Love your book reviews! I realized I should probably comment more instead of watching silently so you don't ever stop uploading lol. I haven't read any of these but def put a lot of them on my tbr

I hate it when books basically lie in the blurbs/synopsis! Have you read the night circus? And the blurb on the back of the book? Lies. All lies.
Luckily I didn't even read the back before reading it, I just bought it and read it because of two people raving about it, and it's one of my very favourite books! But if I had read the synopsis first, I might have been disappointed!
Or! Have you seen Wicker Park? Have you seen the trailer? Lies! LIES!
that one though, I ended up loving even though it was not at all what I was expecting

yes! i don't remember if you play dragon age, but they released a trailer last weekend that was just NOT the vibe of the game at all, and everyone was really confused, and even the game developers made some public statements about how the marketing department isn't connected to the game department at all, and a lot of times marketers don't know anything about the thing they are making ads for. It definitely seems the same in the book world sometimes!

@@thefaeriewilds oh that's so interesting and also annoying! The marketers should definitely know about what they're selling!
