She's the reason I got into books when I was 13 and now I'm 17 and I still can't find a book character that can take Aelin's place in my heart. I don't know what I'll do once ToG ends (╯︵╰,)
It's funny because, I walked into a bookstore and walked out with Throne of Glass, and now I'm working on a novel of my own, because of you and your writing. I have to say, you've kind of spoilt me with teen fantasy. No one does what you can do, so I'll for ever be here thinking "Sarah J Maas did it better..." Oh and btw I got a friend to start reading tog. She's on CoM now and a huge Chaolaena shipper. *chuckles* just you wait. Just you wait
Fairies, Unicorns and sexy Princes... finally someone put it into words... There is a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference between school books and the ones people actually LIKE to read...❤️❤️❤️
Crazy to think that the inspiration you felt as a kid. Is now the inspiration that you provide to others. It's the circle of BOOKS!!!! (Insert Circle of Life music from The Lion King.)
Waiting for Tower Of Dawn. While I color my Throne Of Glass coloring book, and stick my Throne Of Glass Stickers on my wall, and write in my Throne Of Glass notebook... and trace Celeana/Aelin from the covers of the books... and cry myself to sleep because I have to wait a VERY LONG TIME (September) for the next book to come out.
The fact that I actually relate to her makes me so happy! I did the same Airhead ditzy phase and I have always struggled with being either a girly girl or a tomboy
Ahhh I love The Hero and the Crown (and the Blue Sword) ❤️ I only discovered ACOTAR a couple weeks ago and became obsessed and read it through twice in a row, and I told my honey that I bet SJM was a Robin McKinley fan, there's just a certain vibe.
Yes Throne of Glass inspired me in seventh grade. I have read so many books. I’m a HUGE HARY POTTER FAN! And when I read Throne of glass, I couldn’t get enough. It’s the only series I have ever been able to read over and over. I’m starting to write my own book about a siren girl. I really really was inspired by these novels. Sarah J Maas has forever changed my life. I’ll never be the same. She has forever caught my attention and made me realize that, being a teen nowadays, people don’t want nerdy kids they want popular cool kids and she’s helped me realize I’m a nerdy kid and I don’t care! I don’t care if I don’t go to parties and get drunk because I’m home writing or with my bestie. She’s made me feel like I belong in this world especially bringing Aelin/Celeana into my life. This heroine has forever changed me. She’s a chocolate lover, a bookaholic and a total badass who also enjoys music. This series, this author has made me a bigger person, a stronger person. I may not be the Assassin/queen Celeana is but I want to be like her. Aelin is my hero. She is my savior when I’m upset. Sarah j mass is my idol. I don’t wanna be creepy but I love this womens work, I love her writing style she’s just amazing. Many people don’t get that. Sarah, you have changed my life around. I’ve never been a very social butterfly, I don’t have many friends, but this book has been my friend and I don’t care if that makes me pathetic. This book has kept me feeling grounded. If there was any way I could exchange letters with Sarah or speak with her, I would. I’d do anything to speak with her, get her advice on writing. She’s my idol and it’s my dream to meet her, or to at least get a letter from her. I mean, I also wanna go into the TOG novels and live in their world but it’s kinda impossible in this age. I can go to that world in my mind but I hover and watch, I want to be able to interact with the characters. Thanks for everything Sarah. Thanks for your series’. Thank you.
Super late to the game, but I picked up Sabriel at a book fair in 7th grade too! It's still my all time favorite book, i've read it almost every year since, so about 20 times. And that's totally awesome that you got to meet him and have your first copy signed! I'd fan girl HARD if that was me. I still have my much loved original copy as well. It's no wonder you've become a favorite author of mine knowing how he inspired you. You build extremely realistic worlds just like he does.
I would love to know if miss Sarah has ever read "The Black Jewels Trilogy" by Anne Bishop. I think she'd like it. Also thank you Sarah for your wonderful stories. ❤
She has mentioned that she has in a Twitter thread. Also I think she more than liked it, considering how much of the later ACOTAR books "borrow" from the series
I am thirteen , and last year when I was in seventh grade a similar situation happened and I bought the throne of glass series and it’s my ultimate inspiration because I decided I want to write fantasy books too, she inspires me so much
I finished the ACOTAR series in about a month and a half. And during that time period my mom threatened to take my books away. She also said that I should be like a normal person and be on my phone or doing something else. 😂😂😂😭😂😂 and that she would feel bad if she had to take them away 😂
Honestly, SAME! I just slammed through Throne of Glass, and the A Court of Thornes and Roses series during quarantine. They are so good. The BEST novels I have ever read. As someone else commented before, I will forever be comparing other books to Sarah J Maas' novels thinking in my head, "She did it better". Also finished reading Crescent City, I think I'm gonna die from how long I have to wait for a sequel.
I have to ask, did Sarah ever read Warriors (the series by Erin Hunter)? Because Aelin is often called 'Fireheart' by Rowan, and the main character in the first series of Warriors was called 'Fireheart' I also noticed that one of Rolfie's ships was called the 'Tiger-star' and the main villain in Warriors was called 'Tigerstar'
I’m working on a fantasy novel of my own after your books inspired me to broaden my writing from poetry to this!! Thank you so much. Also, does anyone else in the comments feel way less weird writing fanfiction now that we know Sarah wrote fanfiction??
I read Throne of Glass on Fictionpress the first time. And I remember you gushing about Garth Nix's Sabriel in one of your ANs at the end of the chapter. I am constantly amazed by you and so proud of how you didn't give unlike so many of us. You go girl!
You must read and be on the look out for ideas. Write even if its just random words... sometimes writting is like pottery. You first have to grab a massive piece of clay and mold it. It takes time to come up with a story, patience is needed. And lots of determination. Imagine multiple different scenarios for a scene if you are uncertain of the future. And over think a lot of detail of your novel. That's what I do when writting. (I dont always imagine multiple scenarios since my ideas are more concrete now.)
I'm twelve years old and you've really inspired me to start reading again. I, too, stopped reading in sixth grade because of the backclash I might get, or people may not like me for who I am, so I let my insecurities get the best of me. But now, the summer before seventh grade, and after scrolling through so many videos like this one, I decided to make a trip to the library and since then I have been reading so many books. The first two books of your court series, the Divergent trilogy, Hunger Games, etc. I also read many comments online stating that it's pretty much impossible to write a book as a young teen. Is that true? I have so many ideas about what I want to write, but will I be able to write a book in my years of Highschool? I don't really know how to get an editor, agent, or publish my book yet, and I am not sure if someone will explain how it works or if I'll eventually learn during Highschool. :/
Hey, don't worry! I started writing when I was 14, and no matter what age are you, writing is something everybody can do. It is sometimes hard with all the homework, and essays and studying, but if you have enough will that ins't going to be a problem. Good luck writing!
I was not the biggest reader for a long while and I found it hard to concentrate and focus if I did try but as soon as I started reading your series it’s become so much easier for me and I’ve learnt to rly lov books. I mean now, half the time my head is stuck in a book and I can’t imagine life without them, especially your series.
I have the most dog eared, yellow copy of sabriel from when I was around 9-10. I love it as much now and has been passed around to so many friends in the years!
Dear Shara J.Maas You don't know me, but i want to thank you for inspiring me to write the trilogy i now write Called the Star trilogy. I love your books and have all of them Thank for everything👏
I love books. I read Harry Potter when I was 7, Percy Jackson when I was 8..you get it, right. But my favourite up till now is Throne of Glass. I’m sorry to finish the series. The only series’ that I think rivals it is Warrior Cats. I love this series, thank you Sarah J. Maas for writing ToG
I totally relate with Sarah, I also have that mix of girly-girl and tomboy side of me. And I REALLY hate when someone says "You're a tomboy." they think you're already a trans or gay. Like people, tomboys are girls who ACT like boys, not literally ARE boys. Anyways, Sarah, I looooove your books! I've been reading Assassin's Blade since I was nine. I was also a lover of books, especially thick ones. I randomly picked out a book which is TAB, and I thought the summary was cool, so I bought it. And from then on, i've read the book repeatedly. Then, on Summer of 2017, I've bought Throne of Glass. Then the next few months are Crown of Midnight. Then on November was Heir of Fire. Then on December, my mom bought me Queen of Shadows. (Btw, i've just finished it on January of 2018), then also on december i bought EOS!! And i'm currently reading it!! It's sooooooo cool!! The plot twists were amazing!
Im 14 years old and I NEVER used to read, but i write. My father told me that i have to "suck it up get a book and read it in a month." So i was looking in Kmart and i loved the look of your book Throne of glass and Hair of fire. Trust me i had no idea it was a set and i was not planning on reading it. Perhaps the first and last chapters so i could say "done" and give him a ruff idea of what the book was about. But we had more shopping to do so i read the first chapter and i thought to myself that it was amazing. I read it in two days, then we got crown of midnight a couple days ago and now im on Hair of fire. Because of you, i now love to read (when im comfy and if possible have some chocolate in my hand) i want to thank you for that. What you write is similar to what i write so i think thats why i love your books so much. I do wonder: how do you come up with such great names? And i hear that your book series is becoming a TV show, is this true? Love your work and please keep writing so fantasticly.

Sarah, your my favorite author. I love your books and you! Your are one of the best writers!
Sarah is my version of her Garth Nix. You are my inspiration 💞

I was so pumped to see you liked "Sabriel." It was probably my favorite book as a young teenager, and still is very dear to me.
Sarah, you inspire me beyond reason! Thank you for writing the TOG & ACOTAR series. Thank you for all those characters that felt so real!
i love that she basically said she wrote y/n fanfiction
This sparks curiosity; the related book will ignite passion. "Stars Aligned" by Olivia Whitestone
Sara. your books changed my life
This piece is enlightening, but the book? A revelation. "Stars Aligned" by Olivia Whitestone
Wow
So I guess there's a reason why I love her books so much... she's a huge fangirl for Sabriel and Garth Nix. It makes so much sense XD
This is dear to my heart! The feelings you get when you connect to books!

So much love Sarah!
