- Merle Haggard visits with Herb to talk about his incredible career, his music, his life and a few stories about his journey to super success and super stardom. This is a one of a kind man. Very interesting stories in this interview.
I really like watching his Interviews .
In the beginning of the interview, I had the feeling that he wanted Merle to talk about being in prison with the dopey question, " What experiences....?" Merle didn't take the bait since he knew what was coming. This set the tone for the entire interview....you ain't getting nothing but one word answers. RIP, Merle
R I P MERLE !
Merle was tired of talking about that, he never got into any more trouble after that! Well not that kind any how, he was only a young angry hurting man that didn't know what to do with the loss of his father.
I could not watch this all the way through. Haggard acted like he was sitting on a cactus and didn't want to be there. I had read that he was a very private man. One of my top music heroes.
Interviewer is inept but in spite of all the B.S., Hag covers some interesting topics here, especially about his song writing. Salute to the Mighty Merle Haggard!
Real men like this don’t exist anymore. Imagine 50 years from now.
About two minutes into this interview, I quickly realized it was not going to be worth watching.....and I got the impression Merle agreed with me. The looks he gave him and the small chuckles said it all! I LOVE MERLE, HE DESERVES BETTER THAN THIS!
I agree , he definitely was not into that interview .
".... the neighborhood good boy... " Hillarious !! About the connection between country and dixieland.... well western swing incorporates jazz into country music, so there's a connection. Merle didn't say this, but he knows it, because he's hired jazz players into his band. Clint Strong is a good example of this. Clint can play bebop stuff. He shows his prowess on Merle's recordings.
Q; what kind of music is on your new album? A; Merle Haggard music....lol
3:35 Absolutely hilarious. His sidelong look at the camera just after... Hahahaha.
The interviewer reminds me of a new Yorker like me grandma very pushy lol
👏👏👏
If I try to imagine getting a chance to interview Merle Haggard, I'd probably be feeling like a tiny, minuscule, dopey, bipedal primate attempting to gather the scope of one of the world's finest musical artists ever. The others commenting here have it pretty much right, Merle could see how the interview was shaping up after only one or two questions. I have to give Herb a lot of credit for taking on this monumental task. I'd have been going down in flames, but Herb actually came away with some pretty good insights, in spite of charging in on two left feet.
One of his sons is a good musician but I forgot his name lol
Its a shame these legends has to die and take all that talent with them
To have time with the Great Merle Haggard, and then waste it with dumb questions.....
That Sacco And Vanzetti Is A Dang Classic
Poor Hag... he prevailed though...
Sorry, but Chris Farley would have been a better interviewer. Painful to watch. Bless his heart.
Haha I love the awkwardness in this. Merle wasn’t feeling this.
God this was hilarious!
Merle said you didn’t have enough respect to prepare for this interview, so you ain’t getting sh!t. Matter fact, get outta here with your crumpled paper🤣🤣
Looks just like Scott omg
Merle looks just like his son Scott in this interview.
I, too, was tempted to flee this interview but somehow I got sucked into seeing just how much Merle would tolerate the interviewer reading from his prepared sheet. It's very much like the interviews Chris Farley did on SNL. "Remember that movie Star Wars?" Harrison Ford: "Yes I do." Farley: "Yeah, that was great!" or something like that...
😄😄😄
Merle just wants to be a white boy and do his thang lol
i remember that shirt lol
Omg thought it was Scott
Marty, Noel & Ben
What the ?
Love 💗 💘 😻
the worst kind of interviewer, asks a question, then basically answers his own question and doesn't allow a living music legend to answer, he acted like he thinks that somehow he's more important that Merle, I remember hearing Johnny Cash say, what was that? I couldn't hear you, I was talking... maybe Merle should have said something similar? what was that again? I couldn't hear you, I was trying to answer your question, lol
I feel sorry for the interviewer. Merle didn't seem to want to be interviewed. He sure didn't have much to say.
I think it was more the interviewer kinda sucked 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Interviewer wasn't reading Merle or the energy of the room and was being too domineering.
This man could shit out 4 toby keiths and a side of durks bentley for lunch lol
Interviwer the farmer the small town . Merle is blue you face. Sorry Merle you legend in country music
It's a decent interview, I guess. It sorta looked like Merle would have been fine with tossin this fella off the back of the stage tho.... with his checklist in tow. lol
This fucking guy is horrible...I wish I'd have had a chance to talk to merle like this... we'd have had a helluva time
Was
What a missed opportunity. Don’t bother watching. Just take it down.
I don't think Mearle was into it .
Found this man irritating to say the least, a bit disrespectful and rushed through the interview. He’s talking to a legend and seems oblivious. Thought Merle was gracious to tolerate this.
Interviewer has a nervous laugh . . . Perhaps, Merle did not appreciate the interviewer reading from paper, too inpersonal. As well, Merle probably that much more, did not appreciate when the interviewer cut him off, did not let him speak when he offer a detail to share. Ugh. Disappointing, the interviewer's skills were so poor.
The interview was more like a lawyer, cross examining a witness on “the stand” ! 👎🏼👎🏼
This is one of the worst, if not THE worst, interviews I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching. And definitely the worst Hag interview in existence
The worse ever interview
I can see why UCLA School of Broadcasting has named their building after Sudz, the man is as legendary as his subject in this video.
Watch his excellent interview with Ariana Grande he did this past summer.
Sudzy you are the man!
acts a bit hungover or not drunk enuff
A very unnecessary & asinine remark 👎🏼
You're a total asshole. I'm sure you write this as you're having a drink!
Worst interview ever, due to the dude doing it.
Pretty awkward and poorly put together interview. Cheap setting, rustling papers for notes, dumb questions, etc. Who the hell hired this guy? Lol
