In this how to tutorial Todd walks you through the world of making your own custom spark plug wires for your motorcycle. In our kits we give you the choice of a wide array of color options that we sell by the foot and or in a kit form. Our kits include 90 degree boots or straight boots for your spark plugs, the corresponding 90 degree metal connectors, coil connecters & boots, plus 3 feet of wire in your desired color ranging in 7mm stranded copper core or 8mm suppressor core. Learn the differences in 7mm and 8mm along with how to install 90 degree boots / connectors for spark plugs, straight boots / connectors for spark plugs, and coil boots and connectors for your coil.
Making your own spark plug wires can be extremely fun and can take your customization of your motorcycle to the next level. These kits work for a wide variety of motorcycles including Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Bsa, Norton, and even hot rods. So get out those wire cutters and crimpers, let's make some new spark plug wires together for your custom two wheeled machine!
    Time Stamps:
    00:01 - Intro
00:18 - What's new with our Lowbrow Customs Spark Plug kits?

04:20 - What comes in the kits Todd?
06:02 - Installing a 90 degree boot and 90 degree connector for a spark plug onto an 8mm spark plug wire (same methods apply for 7mm).
11:00 - Testing connection with spark plug and your newly made 90 degree end.
11:31 - Installing a coil boot and connector onto an 8mm spark plug wire (Same methods apply for 7mm).
13:04 - Plugging the coil connector end to a Triumph coil to show how it connects properly.
13:50 - Installing a straight boot and straight connector for a spark plug onto a 7mm spark plug wire (Same methods apply for 8mm)

pro tip. the cheap stamped crimpers have a spot for crimping ignition wires. you might want to fine tune it with other crimpers to tighten it up but itll get the tabs formed ya nicely.

I ordered a set for my 2009 Harley Dyna FDX from Lowbrow Customs and I discovered that the straight connectors do not fit in the ignition module - they are too big. I checked my stock cables and it uses a much smaller connector. What am I doing wrong?

Meant to ask your opinion on which size/type to use on a 3.0 screamin eagle coil? Its a 2000 custom xlh 883c Sporty (with ss hooligan kit,now its a1200 etc) it currently has 8mm supression core (learned that here tonight from your video lol! Dude..you are the best teacher i swear! ) Also, would there be any need or benefit to a 5.0 coil if my 3.0 SE needs replaced?

Question: Would the suppressor core wires be the appropriate choice for an older bike when installing a device like an M Unit Blue? Or perhaps an aftermarket onboard GPS?

    • @lowbrowcustoms
      @lowbrowcustoms  4 роки тому

The M Unit Blue's Manual says "MAKE SURE THAT THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH INTERFERENCE-SUPPRESSED SPARK PLUGS OR IGNITION CABLES." reference - store-r2ulc3uwrn.mybigcommerce.com/content/motogadget_manuals/munit_basic_blue_manual_en_2.3.pdf?_ga=2.50618089.1956561884.1591046631-168490203.1591046631 With this I would defiantly look at what ignition system and battery you going to use as well.

We have that on the list of many to still film, been a little challenging at the moment to film stuff but working on it! We do have English 101 and 102 available on here. 102 does talk about Triumph forks and putting an entire leg back tougher.

I have a 04 triumph speedmaster and I'm about to change the plug wires. As it is a carb with CDI do you kmow if i should use copper or suppressor?

Check your manual about what spark plugs it currently is running, also what ignition system you have may determine it. The other thing if you know you are getting new ones, you could always cut one end off to double check what you are running now.

Just use some silicone grease on the connector for the 90. Crimp it on and then lube and just push it into the 90. Not sure why you’d wanna do it this way, looks like a pain.

6:41 Why not just crimp it and push it straight into the boot? Pushing wire through, crimpling then struggling to pull it back down at an angle is the hard way....

Just made some for my Sportster 72. FYI to anyone making cables for a later model sportster/iron/48; the end that goes into the coil needs to be bent inward to latch onto the the little post in there. Idk if it’s common sense but it took my ass an hour to figure it out lol
