  • I'll show you the two most common tools to assemble spark wires and some little tips and tricks on what to do and what not to do. Once you learn how to put the terminal ends on, you'll never buy another pre-made set again. This is easy and it looks way better when you're done. Give it a try!

Your channel is the gift that keeps on giving! I bought a set of Excel 8.8 custom length wires off eBay for $50ish (trying to save for a used AVS2 lol). Anyway Excel's crimpers, 1 end goes in a vise and the other end you set on top and hit with a hammer. Needless this to say after the second 1 came out funky I went to UA-cam. And who shows up? The Carburetor Guru. The vise grip trick made this super easy. Once again thank you.

It’s from years of making all sorts of weird mistakes. The vice crimp tool works just fine! Glad it was helpful for you!

This is a great video - thank you!
BUT - I can't find (carbon core) spark plug wire, anywhere!
The fancy low resistance wires are not recommended for my engine, best to stick to plain high resistance carbon core, but I can't source the wire itself anywhere :-(

So is that ratcheting style tool set to the correct pressure out of the box or did you adjust the crimp pressure with the turn of the wheel?

It’s not that complicated. Crimp it shut till the tool releases. Doesn’t matter what the pressure is. Or what the diameter of the wire is.

@@MuscleCarSolutions that isn’t true at all, i bought the ratcheting klein crimpers for an audio project for small gauge wire and out of the box the terminal looked to be crimped correctly but a simple pull test proved otherwise. I adjusted the pressure with two clicks and re tightened the safety and it provided a much stronger crimp to the terminal, i couldn’t even pull it off. So i would say, yes it does matter that you check that the tool is applying correct crimp pressure. Why would the adjustment be on there if it didn’t matter?

Do you put the boot on first before you crimp the ends on? Thanks for your videos. I rebuilt my first Edelbrock (1405) by using your videos.

No. I just use a little dielectric grease and slide them on after the crimp. There’s little advantage to putting them on first. The concern is pulling apart the inner core. If you find a way to install the boots without hurting the core, that’s the challenge.

Are you sure you are placing the wire in properly? That is a double crimp terminal. The wire, I believe should have been pushed up further past the next crimp and close to the closed part of the terminal at the top. There should be two crimps, if I am not mistaken...jc

@@MuscleCarSolutions would you happen to know why a rpm gauge don’t work? Is there a cable or something? It’s on 2003 Yukon. I’ve been all over the internet and all I can find is the gauge cluster could be bad. My oil pressure is not reading also. I know that the oil pressure sending sensors normally go bad but it’s at the back of the block 🤬🤬🤬😂😂😂
