    Sorry, Chuck. The pulpit is what you're standing on. Pulpit is from the Latin word pulpitum which means platform or stage. In your video, there are two lecterns (reading tables, also from the Latin, leg=to read). One is for the preacher to lay his or her Bible and notes on. The other is for other speakers to lay their Bible or notes on so that they don't interfere with the pastor's Bible and notes and risk dropping dead during worship and being sent straight to Hell. :)

    Actually, the latin word pulpitum refers to the bow of a ship. In the early Christian church, the word was used for any place where someone led a congregation in reading, teaching or worship. The meaning came from Christ's addressing the crowd from the pulpit of a ship (Luke 5:1).
    To this day, shipbuilders refer to the extreme end of the bow of a ship as the pulpit.
