I don't understand why the pinout of PCIe and extra power plugs even is different. They both handle ground and 12V.
PCIe 8 pin has 3 pairs of current carying wires, and 2 sense pins. EPS has 4 pairs of current carrying wires. It's more than just a 12V socket.

Plug the CPU EPS12V into the motherboard with a CPU socketed. Nothing else plugged in. Use a jumper on the 24Pin to turn PSU on. This will cycle power to the CPU without the rest of the board. There's a slim chance it may revive the motherboard. I've done this a couple times to "fix" stuck motherboards after failures.

When Kyle says F PC and he brings Lyle back to YT. He has been gone FAR too long man! People need a good laugh these days. Thanks for having the balls to bring him back!
i'm surprised the board got fried. If the short was at the connector, the 12V rail should have never come up and any current should have re-routed right through at the connector and back up the cable. Wonder how it propagated through the rest of the board enough to hit anything else.
Edit: minor research and it looks like ground and 12v are COMPLETELY swapped between an 8-pin eps and 8-pin PCi-e connector. So you can get effectively a -12V on the board by plugging the PCIe connector into the EPS connector. Did not realize this. Somehow I thought a 8-pin PCi-e was 5x GND and 3x 12V. So, the mix up would have resulted in 12V shorting to ground, not a negative voltage on the board.

When you were first testing the components, my first thought was why are you trying to get a signal out through integrated graphics?
I mean, yeah, the GPU didn't end up putting out a signal after that, but on Intel the F skus don't have iGPUs
