Wait a minute, in the last lines, Grover said "It's been reminding me of all I fail to be, the tree on the hill". And when satyrs die they are turned into plants/trees. Grover is seemingly saying that he should have died protecting Thalia, not the other way around. Now I'm getting emotional

The first movie (haven't seen the second) really took away the emotion from Grover's character, he's super playful in general that's true, but they removed the parts of him that made him vulnerable, the musical, especially this song does a great job at showing what the movie failed to express

I always interpret the last two lines as:
“...Of all I failed to be: The Tree on the Hill.”
As in Grover was meant to keep the other half bloods safe. HE was supposed to protect them, and now one of them is dead and also holds the same responsibility. All because Grover didn’t take action. The Tree on the Hill, that is all Grover failed to be.

Your forgetting, Hazel's Dad is Pluto not Hades, and Nico and Bianca were stuck in the lotus hotel lasting around seventy years and that was before World War Two. Making Hades the one to never break a vow.
*edit; thaila turned human again in the Sea of Monsters, making Posiden and Zeus to only break the vows once, and Hazel and Jason are the Roman counterparts of the gods/goddesses

The one thing in the PJO series that really disappointed me was the fact that we never really got to see Thalia’s reaction to being brought back. Like in Titan’s Curse she mentions it being weird, plus she, Annabeth, and Grover are all friends, but their reunion happened off screen. (off page?) Why wasn’t that shown? I would have loved to have seen that! Like Uncle Rick could do a short story from Thalia’s perspective about what went down after she was revived. Like she’s confused as to what’s going on and everyone has to explain to her everything that she missed. It could focus on her getting used to Annabeth being a teenager, since the last time they saw each other Annabeth was seven, how she reacted to the news that Luke had betrayed her, she could have a talk with Grover, there’s just so many possibilities!

I haven’t read the books yet but I will someday. But based on what you said, I agree. It’s annoying when stuff like this in books, movies, and TV shows where we don’t get to see certain things and they just happen off screen. Obviously they do this to help cut time so the audience doesn’t get bored and they can just get straight to the point, but it definitely leaves us wondering about the characters’ reactions. For example, with Stranger Things 4, I have been wondering what was Argyle’s reaction with learning about everything that had been going on in Hawkins with battling the stuff from the Upside Down in the first 3 seasons. Or see Max’s reaction to Lucas explaining everything in season 1.
But yeah, based on what you were saying, I too wish Grover and Thalia had a talk together. Imagine if another Percy Jackson musical in which they both have a song together reflecting on what happened. But since Disney+ has that Percy Jackson TV series coming out soon, maybe someone will decide to write something similar to what you were hoping.

i thought that it was so cruel of zeus to make thalia into a tree instead of sending her to elysium and using the tree to remind grover of his failure. but then i realized, zeus had killed nico and bianca’s mom, so he was probably scared of sending her to the underworld because hades might take it as a chance to get his revenge.

Whoever did this did amazing. It captured how Grover is affected & how the guilt still hurts him each day. It's so sad. Grover is one of my favorite characters.
I have a small headcannon that if percy died and no one was there not even the gods he decided to switch spots with thaila and let her live when he turned into the tree
Uh mega late but I feel like it could also be a cool au that instead of Grover running he saved Thalia and died himself and became the tree for his sacrifice
Livi that sounds fun, but what would happen? Thalia would have to join the Hunters sooner. Would they be looking for a female half blood and help Percy? Would they help Percy? Who would help Percy if not them, Coach? This would mean the age gap between Jason and Thalia would be more accurate so does that change their dynamic at all? How does Zeus act towards Thalia? Why can Zeus even turn anyone into a tree? Would Zeus turn Grover into a tree or is he reincarnated into it? So many questions!

The tree was pointed in Sea of Monsters the second book. Titans Curse is book 3. By the end of the second book Thalia is revived and the fleece is acting as the new barrier guardian.
Grover in the bathroom looks great
Grover has always been one of my all time favorite characters in the series. From listening to the soundtrack, he is still my favorite and i love how he is portrayed in this. And the emotion the actor put into this song is beautiful and exactly how i imagined grover being when he was talking about this. The emotion in the actual animation is just as powerful. This song is definitely my favorite in the soundtrack. Thank you for making such a beautiful animation for this song.

I haven't seen the musical but I love this song. It's so emotional. I felt so bad for Grover when he was telling Percy what happened to Thalia. I also really like Campfire Song. I always knew about this series but I didn't start reading them until my summer vacation and hearing about the Disney+ show. I'm so excited. I can't wait until we find out more news.

Very touching song. It really gets to the heart of why Grover is always doubting himself. Just because he brought 3 demigods to the camp but couldn't save one doesn't make him a bad satyr/protector at all....sometimes bad things happen that we just have no control over and for that I commend Grover because his failure to protect Thalia didn't make him quit...it made him work harder to be the very best version of himself he can be.

It's absolutely heart wrenching that the Broadway actors can capture such raw depth & realness in their emotions & tap into the characters. My honest opinion of what makes an amazing actor is putting a bit of thier own personality into thw roles they play.
