I like to think that in his brilliance Rick captured what it’s like to see from the inside of a depressed persons mind. The way he has Percy word things makes you know he knows what’s going through a depressed kids mind. Perhaps he was suffering from depression in the past and still is? Who knows but the hurt in Percy’s words is there
Sometimes I forget how messed up Percy was. Like his stepdad abused him he always was blamed for things he didn't do and he BELIEVED THAT. Also he blamed himself for losing his mom. It just goes to show you how much he's grown as a chracter

And that is just the start of a long emotional hell. I'll just give one example, but it's often over looked. SPOILERS! When he and Jason are confronting Kym, Percy doesn't resist, he feels like he deserved to die. Our lil boy is not okay, it sometimes shows in the books, but I feel the movies portrayed it better. I want a book that’s more “adult” by that I mean a book that shows Percabeths journey after Tartarus and Nicos as well and how he copes with that. And Nicos fight with depression and anxiety. (I’m probably the only one who wants this) I kinda want to see his eternal battle. Rick hints at this stuff but I want to ACTULLY see it. People keep misinterpreting the lyrics. It says: Gabe was a world class jerk. Dad was never there. It doesn't say Gabe was a world class jerk dad, was never there. Hope this cleared things up.

What’s really sad about this song is that he says he just needs “one last chance to prove I’m good enough for someone”. This poor kid grew up believing that if he couldn’t prove to people that he was a good person, he wasn’t deserving of any love. He literally feels like if he doesn’t conform to people’s expectations, that he’s doesn’t deserve to be around. The books and musical don’t delve into Percy’s past nearly as much as they should have, because Gabe was an abusive piece of crap, Percy was rejected by every person and every school for disorders and problems he couldn’t help, and repeatedly says in the first book that “I don’t know how she can put up with Smelly Gabe and I.” He LITERALLY believed he was as bad to his mom as GABE was, and constantly called himself worthless when talking about how much his mom did for him and how much “I don’t deserve her. She’s too good for me.” And then the ONLY person who ever believed in him, his mom, is ‘killed’ right before his eyes, and the one place that offers him refuge kicks him out by affirming his fears that he only causes trouble, and he doesn’t deserve to be in CHB, and he says “The clouds aren’t parting like they should. The gods are fighting. I’m ruining it for everyone. This is my fault.” Not to mention MULTIPLE other occasions in each book. Percy would “mess up” and find himself repeating the same self-destructive words like a mantra every book. Here are a couple examples: When he became frustrated at his half brother in Sea of Monsters and accidentally got him hurt, he called himself worthless; a fool. When he wasn’t able to save Bianca; unfit to be a hero. When he blew up a volcano and stayed “dead” for a month; selfish. When Annabeth saved his life by taking a knife for him; useless and weak. It happened throughout every single book, and can all be traced back to the rejection he faced from family and friends before and during the books. Sorry for the essay, but to make a long story short, Percy has BIG self-esteem and self-worth issues stemming from his treatment as a kid and growing up with so much pressure on his back.
There's also the fact that at least twice he's said he wish he could drown. I've been rereading the books, and he mentions that in the first two. I cant remember if he says it in the others since I'm still rereading the sea of monsters, but it really says a lot about his mental state.
Pretty sure Percy's mom wasn't black in the books. They got *some* things right but not all the characters are the same. Either way, I still wish this would've come to DC or something! Would have LOVED to see it!

This sucks! I never heard about the Percy Jackson & the Olympians book season until 20th century fox announced they were making a movie based on the Lightning Thief in 2010. And I was 19 at the year.
This amazing play and animatic reflects how amazing Percy's character development is. It's easier for me to forget what he was like in the first couple of PJ books- a kid struggling with his feelings. Then in heroes of olympus I can so vividly see Percy Jackson as a confident leader standing tall.
Honestly, thank you so much for your artwork. It really made my day to see Percy represented and seen as he is in both the musical and in this animatic. Keep up the good work!
I feel this captured him perfectly. Percy was abused and This caught his moments, when alone when he would probably break down and cry. Most the time he was protecting his friends and family, leaving no time to cry. Thank you for making this. -Sage-

Oh my goodness. You are so talented. The way that Percy just collapses to his knees when singing “and no mom” made me start bawling and I had to go back to rewatch the ending cause I was crying so hard. The fact that you can make so many people feel that level of hurt and compassion is such a talent. Props to Rick Riodran and Rob Rokiicki who wrote and sings this
I just realized something. In 2:14, Percy doesn't say "All I get are bad grades", he said "All *you* get are bad grades". Someone told him all of this things, since "bad grades" 'till "no friends".
This was AMAZING! I love your style so freaking much! This was too perfect! I really liked the green palette, as well the slices of of Annabeth. Also, this has made me realize that now that we have the musical, we can make some awes-inspiring edits, here in the Percy Jackson Fandom.

Well, I just noticed that that he was cutting up dummies. Me liking suicidal Percy though that he was cutting himself. I was really happy because someone finally made a video with suicidal Percy then I realized that he was cutting up dummies.
This song made me cry but I’m also smiling at the fact that Percy literally says “I’m good enough for someone” while looking right at Annabeth. She’s his encouragement in this whole song.
… I didn’t think I would be crying today. Everyone talks about Nico or Leo’s trauma, but Percy isn’t talked about nearly as much. He had a bad start to his life and I’m glad things are better for him now. He has his mom, his girlfriend, a non-toxic stepdad, a little sister, and two whole camps of friends.
This is very well done song, and I'm surprised that this series had a musical. But something in the plot of this series begs an important question. Disclaimer first, I've never read the books, only seen the movie, but I am aware that in the book original that Percy was like 12 if I'm not mistaken, correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless though to whether Percy was a kid or a teenager, and that he's a demigod. How the hell do the gods think a child manage to steal a weapon from them like they are fucking gods, they could throw him around like a sack of potatoes. Does nobody question how he would have accomplished this, Zeus how is your lighting so unprotected that pubescent child can take it.
Rikkiroo1008 it's because children of the big three gods are more dangerous than other kinds of demigods and we're said to be responsible for some of the worst wars in history so he's seen as a threat because of that and in the books it's explained that Zues couldn't kill Percy because it would anger Poseidon and that would cause a war between the two which would have disastrous consequences so although they could take him down easily his father would have become a problem
I think Ares stole the bolt in the first place along with Hades's helm (correct me if I'm wrong I haven't read the books in awhile) and then handed it off to Luke, and of course, Zeus is stupid and thinks that Posideon sent Percy to get the bolt
Music Ghostie Other way around - Luke stole the bolt and the helm first because gods can’t directly take other gods’ items of power. After the lightning bolt was stolen, Zeus sent Ares to look for it. Ares caught Luke, but Kronos convinced him to help them out. They ended up trying to manipulate Percy into bringing the bolt to the edge of Tartarus (so Kronos could take it). Luke gave Percy flying shoes that were supposed to drag him in, and Ares gave him a backpack with the bolt inside
I have a lot of faith in this musical I think it just needs a chance. Who looked at Hamilton and thought "Dang, it would be an AMAZING musical" at first? Now it's one of the next /big musicals/ that everyone remembers. Like Rent. Heck, even the PRESIDENT laughed at the idea. You're all afraid the movie is going to influence the musical. But have you ever thought... Maybe it doesn't? Maybe this is going to have it's own unique quirk. Besides, George Salazar is grover. That counts for soMETHING

So many parts of this song get me right in the feels. "I never try to do /anything/" "I'm good for nothing at all" "Yeah Percy that's a good one" "All you get is...." (that entire part) Then when it gets all quiet and Percy is just talking about how he feels like he needs to prove that hes go of enough for someone. Like the entire song is sad but these parts especially

My only problem with this music... is that it makes Percy looks like too innocent. Percy IS a good person, but the first quotes of the first book, he calls himself a "problematic boy".

I feel like this is so true cause before the heroes of Olympus and all Percy only had 1 friend and his only family was his mom who disappear(and Percy’s fatal flaw being loyalty well it makes him think it’s all his fault which is not).But I’m happy that he got to learn about love,he got new friends and a good stepdad.
I'm drawn back into the PJO by the musical- I grew up with the books and the (terrible) movies; I'm actually crying because of my love for this series. This musical is amazing but it only scrapes the top of the amazing series!!
Uuuuugh I so badly wanna see this musical, it seems so amazing. Like, what the heck is with all the hate it gets, this song (and all the other preview thingys that I've seen) say otherwise! Also, this animatic is well done, and your art style is beautiful and AHHHH.
personally, it's because i'm sick of seeing them portrayed as so much older. it's a bit more forgivable in theatre (like in dear evan hansen everyone is older than their character) , but is it too much to ask to see some 12 years olds play these characters? the movies were absolute shit, and i think some people think this is going to be the same thing again; really shit and worsens the reputation of the series for people who haven't actually read the books. i don't hate it because i haven't seen/ listened to enough of it to judge, but who decided this was a necessary thing? i've been in love with this series since i was 10 (i'm 16 now) and i really just want an accurate portrayal of the characters, even if it's by animation for christ's' sake.

This amazing play and animatic reflects how amazing Percy's character development is. It's easier for me to forget what he was like in the first couple of PJ books- a kid struggling with his feelings. Then in heroes of olympus I can so vividly see Percy Jackson as a confident leader standing tall.

I feel this captured him perfectly. Percy was abused and This caught his moments, when alone when he would probably break down and cry. Most the time he was protecting his friends and family, leaving no time to cry. Thank you for making this.

Oh my goodness. You are so talented. The way that Percy just collapses to his knees when singing “and no mom” made me start bawling and I had to go back to rewatch the ending cause I was crying so hard. The fact that you can make so many people feel that level of hurt and compassion is such a talent. Props to Rick Riodran and Rob Rokiicki who wrote and sings this

This was AMAZING! I love your style so freaking much! This was too perfect! I really liked the green palette, as well the slices of of Annabeth. Also, this has made me realize that now that we have the musical, we can make some awes-inspiring edits, here in the Percy Jackson Fandom.

Everyone talks about Nico or Leo’s trauma, but Percy isn’t talked about nearly as much. He had a bad start to his life and I’m glad things are better for him now. He has his mom, his girlfriend, a non-toxic stepdad, a little sister, and two whole camps of friends.

This is very well done song, and I'm surprised that this series had a musical. But something in the plot of this series begs an important question. Disclaimer first, I've never read the books, only seen the movie, but I am aware that in the book original that Percy was like 12 if I'm not mistaken, correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless though to whether Percy was a kid or a teenager, and that he's a demigod. How the hell do the gods think a child manage to steal a weapon from them like they are fucking gods, they could throw him around like a sack of potatoes. Does nobody question how he would have accomplished this, Zeus how is your lighting so unprotected that pubescent child can take it.
Rikkiroo1008 it's because children of the big three gods are more dangerous than other kinds of demigods and we're said to be responsible for some of the worst wars in history so he's seen as a threat because of that and in the books it's explained that Zues couldn't kill Percy because it would anger Poseidon and that would cause a war between the two which would have disastrous consequences so although they could take him down easily his father would have become a problem
also you should really read the books because they are amazing and the movies are absolute shit in comparison :)
I think Ares stole the bolt in the first place along with Hades's helm (correct me if I'm wrong I haven't read the books in awhile) and then handed it off to Luke, and of course, Zeus is stupid and thinks that Posideon sent Percy to get the bolt
Music Ghostie Other way around - Luke stole the bolt and the helm first because gods can’t directly take other gods’ items of power. After the lightning bolt was stolen, Zeus sent Ares to look for it. Ares caught Luke, but Kronos convinced him to help them out. They ended up trying to manipulate Percy into bringing the bolt to the edge of Tartarus (so Kronos could take it). Luke gave Percy flying shoes that were supposed to drag him in, and Ares gave him a backpack with the bolt inside

Uuuuugh I so badly wanna see this musical, it seems so amazing. Like, what the heck is with all the hate it gets, this song (and all the other preview thingys that I've seen) say otherwise! Also, this animatic is well done, and your art style is beautiful and AHHHH.
personally, it's because i'm sick of seeing them portrayed as so much older. it's a bit more forgivable in theatre (like in dear evan hansen everyone is older than their character) , but is it too much to ask to see some 12 years olds play these characters? the movies were absolute shit, and i think some people think this is going to be the same thing again; really shit and worsens the reputation of the series for people who haven't actually read the books.
i don't hate it because i haven't seen/ listened to enough of it to judge, but who decided this was a necessary thing?
i've been in love with this series since i was 10 (i'm 16 now) and i really just want an accurate portrayal of the characters, even if it's by animation for christ's' sake.
